ONGC entered the Durand final for the first time, when they ousted tenacious Indian Navy 1-0 in the second semi final of the 126th edition of the tournament here today. The match was scored by dashing striker Henry Ezeh, following a melee. In the final ONGC will meet mighty Mohammedan Sporting at the Ambedkar stadium.

The final match will be played under floodlights and will start at 1745hrs. The Chief Guest on the occasion will be the Honourable Raksha Rajya Minister, Mr. Jitendra Singh. The match will be telecast live on DD Sports channel.

Both ONGC and Indian Navy played a well contested semi final match. Indian Navy dominated possession but could penetrate ONGC's well organized defence. ONGC used a lone striker, the Nigerian Henry Ezeh, with ample support from new recruit Lavino Fernandez from the flanks.

Lavino's cross from the left in the 53rd led to a goalmouth scramble. Ezeh flicked into the net, as Indian Navy's defenders struggled to clear the ball. Despite Navy's constant pressure this proved to be the decisive goal. In the 79th minute, ONGC’s ace defender Karan Atwal was dismissed by referee Ratheesh Kumar, when he was shown his second yellow card. But ONGC re-organised their defence and held on to enter the final. Atwal will now miss the final.

Mohammedan Sporting win Durand Cup for 2nd time after 1940. ........SCROLL DOWN FOR MORE

JAYDIP DASGUPTA : 19.09.2013 : At last the day came after 29 years. As a high profile Indian Football Tournament, the team last won Fed cup in the year 1984 The team from Kolkata Mohammedan Sporting club were victorious as they lifts the legendary Durand Cup at Delhi defeating the ONGC by a margin of 2-1. Mohammedan who had a past glory in Indian football failed to be impressive in the current years. Even then were elevated in the first division of the I League after a gap of three years.

They fulfil their Durand target after a gap of 20 year when they lost to JCT 0-1 in the Final of 1992. But this year the Aziz brigade has achieved their Durand goal finally in the soil of Delhi. Today the Final Match match was played under floods light. The chief guest on the occasion was Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM, ADC, Chief of the Naval Staff. The General Officer Commanding, Delhi Area Lt Gen Subroto Mitra, AVSM, SM, VSM, welcomed the Chief Guest in his address before the commencement of match. With this historic win Mohammedan SC has received the three trophies and the winners cheque of Rs. 25 lakhs.

The Mohammedan officials are successful this year. They have recruited foreigners who are successful in Indian soil. Above all their Coach Masood Bola Abdul Aziz has a lot experience and reputation and is capable of managing teams successfully.

This is the first tournament which Mohammedan played this year. They were the champions in the group league stages. Today at Ambedkar they took control of the game right from the beginning. The Aussie striker Tolgey Ozbey regained his lost form and he has proved himself as the key man in Mohammedan striking force.

He not only scored the brace, but he has created a lot of opportunities by his sheer speed which was observed by us two years back. The first goal of Tolgey is really an example of individual brilliance. The Aussie dogged inside the 18 yards from the left and his powerful shot went in following a deflection of an ONGC defender.

Mohammedan increased the margin just before the break, as Tolgey's right footed powerful shot from age of the 18 yards beat the ONGC goalkeeper all hands down.In the second session Mohammedan continued to control the game as Ajoy Singh missed an open chance from Tolgey's center. Mohammedan had to conceded a goal as Lovino Fernandez shot beat Somnath Khara in the 55th minute.

Mohammedan won the Federation Cup in the year 1984 – which is a recognized category A tournament in India.Today at the capital Mohammedan lifts the Durand Cup which is one of the oldest (started in 1988) football tournament in Asia.If we look back, record says that in 1940 the result was identical.

In the pre independence era Mohammedan defeated the Warwickshire Regiment by a margin 2-1. But, the tragic incidence occurred is, the Mohammedan defender Luciano Sabrosa injured his right arm badly and had to leave the field at the dying minutes of the match.
