BFC PRESS RELEASE : Beingaichho, Robin At The Double As Blues See Through Sporting Fight To Win 5-3. Bengaluru FC survived some needlessly anxious moments as they got their Federation Cup campaign off to a winning start with a high-scoring 5-3 win over Sporting Clube de Goa at the MDSC Stadium, in Kerala, on Wednesday. The I-League leaders threw a dented a four-goal lead, conceding three in a seventeen-minute window before Robin Singh scored in the third minute of added time to put the issue to bed.
Ashley Westwood's blue brigade couldn't have asked for a better start when Beikhokhei Beingaichho smashed home Bengaluru FC's opener in the 5th minute after Sporting 'keeper Ravi Kumar fluffed a clearance. Under pressure from an onrushing Sean Rooney, Kumar could manage a meek touch of the ball on the edge of the box that fell kindly to Beingaichho. With an empty goal to shoot into, the diminutive winger couldn't err.......... Live commentary below
The early lead worked as perfect reason for Bengaluru to boss the half and they did just that when skipper Sunil Chhetri added a second in the 33rd. Menyongar had a hand in this one too when he picked out Rino Anto on the right with a long ball that the young defender brought down deftly before Chhetri packed his cross home. It was Chhetri's turn to play provider next and he did it with brilliance. Exchanging a one-two with Sean Rooney, Chhetri chased the ball down the left and turned a Sporting defender the wrong way before crossing and leaving Beikho with the simple task of finishing clean.
Buoyed by the cushion, Westwood threw in Singh and Vishal Kumar for Rooney and Keegan Pereira. The strong striker vindicated the decision when he scored the first of his two for the night in the 66th minute. Released down the left, Singh turned the onrushing ’keeper and slotted into an empty net.
Only minutes earlier Sporting missed the chance to pull one back when Boima Karpeh smashed his take from the spot against the bar after Vishal Kumar brought down Victorino Fernandes in the box. The error would come back to haunt the Goa club who went on to score three goals in the last twenty minutes to give Bengaluru a scare.
Karpeh finished coolly from the left before substitutes Beevan D'Mello and Victorino took advantage of some lackadaisical defending to make it 4-3 with a minute of added time to play for. But Singh made sure the regrets were none after being smartly set up by Darren Caldeira who came on for Thoi Singh in the second half. Running down the left, Caldeira foxed a defender and set up Singh who did well to slot home without fuss.

SAL: Karanjit, Nicolau, Chika, Costa, Fulganco, Francis, Rocus, Matthew, Gilbert, Marcus, Darry.
SLFC PRESS RELEASE : Shillong Lajong FC got off to a flying start in the Federation Cup by crushing Salgaocar FC with a thumping scoreline of 4-0 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Kochi on Wednesday. A match expected to be a tough encounter for both teams turned up on its head when Salgaocar's hope of a revival after their poor run of form was cancelled completely by a brilliant display from The Reds.
The match started poorly for both teams without any clear cut chances. However in the 14th minute, Lajong got the breakthrough and earned their first goal after the Salgaocar defence was caught sleeping. A clever lobbed pass from Taisuke Matsugae was headed by Lajong winger Seikhohao Tuboi into the top corner.
The goal meant that Derrick Perreira’s tactics were in vain as he made a rare change in the 29th minute when he brought on Clifton Dias for Mascarenhas. The tactical switch however was not successful as Thangboi Singto's men created many chances and added a lot of pressure to The Greens’ keeper Karanjit Singh.
Lajong got their second in the 36th minute after a brilliant low cross from Cornell Glen was converted successfully by the Federation Cup debutant Redeem Tlang, which was his first senior team goal. Lajong nearly got their third only for Subash’s effort to go over the bar. The half ended with Shillong Lajong in the advantage.
Lajong began the 2nd half much like they ended the first with Glen almost finding the net only 50 seconds after the break. Glen had controlled the ball on his chest after which his shot went past Salgaocar’s goalkeeper Kiranjit Singh and off the post.
It did not take long for Lajong to find their third goal which came in the 48th minute when Japanese recruit Taisuke Matsugae made an easy run through Clifton Dias to find a lot of space after which his thunderous strike proved to be too much for the Salgaocar custodian.
Lajong made another smart move in the 61st minute which gave them their fourth goal and secured the three points as well. Glen who had assisted one for his team found himself on the edge of the box with and his left footed strike went into the back of the net.
Shillong Lajong are now strong contenders for the Federation Cup and will take on Kolkata side Mohun Bagan AC on the 18th of January, Saturday at 4:00PM. The match will be broadcast live on Ten Action.

The all-important Bagan goal was scored by Christopher Chizoba (27th minute) which they held on and dashed Mumbai FC’s hopes to begin on a positive note...... BELOW IS THE LIVE MATCH COMMENTARY
Mumbai FC after kick off were first to make an impact. In the 5th minute, Yusif Yakubu, put NP Pradeep in the clear on the right. Running deep, Pradeep did well to cut-backa pass from the touchline and find an unmarked Ahmad Hatifi on the top of the box who stretched the Bagan 'keeper Shilton Paul to keep out the attempt. Back-to back corner-kicks for Mumbai FC pushed Bagan on the defensive.
Having dominated proceedings through Yakubu, Bagan almost dented the Mumbai FC citadel. The rival's medio Yusa Katsumi moving quickly down the left took a shy only to have custodian Nidhin Lal deflect the ball onto the post. Thereafter, Nidhin was kept busy with Katsumi and Chizoba's try going straight into the keepers' hands. Chizoba, then, tested Nidhin again, only to have Nidhin block.
Having sustained a spate of attacks, Mumbai FC fell in arrears after Chizoba made no mistake on his third attempt. Beating the off-side trap the Nigerian latched on to a cross from Katsumi, before following up the space ahead with a volley to beat the Mumbai FC custodian. The goal pushed Mumbai FC back and what unfolded was a mid-field battle for posession with no out-and-out chances created by either side. At half time, Mumbai FC trailed 0-1.
Changing ends, Mumbai FC brought on Henry Ezeh (for Rahul Bheke) who began his role with a early try, but wide. On the hour, Henry was once again creating problems for Bagan sending ion a good cross for Yakubu but the striker was flagged off-side.
Four minutes later, Yakubu's timed run to an Anwar Ali long free-kick saw the Ghanian win the aerial ball ahead of Shilton but the move rolled over the goalline just when the striker could direct it goalward. Yakubu once again gained centre-stage when he chested down and blasted over from inside the box after Henry's crossed from the left following a defenders' clearance off a Nicolas Rodrigues corner-kick came loose.
Mumbai, then, went through a phase of attacks with Nidhin Lal keeping his calm when Chizoba faced him in a one on one situation. Three minutes from the end, Hatifie had a close try from inside the box go over. He then set up Henry, with a gentle tap, to enable the striker push past his man-marker before stretching and scream his effort wide of the far post.
