AIFF PRESS RELEASE: Punjab FC came from behind on the back of a Dipanda Dicka hattrick, to earn a 3-2 victory over Neroca FC of Manipur in their Hero I-League match at the Guru Nanak Stadium, in Ludhiana, on Wednesday. All but Dicka’s winning goal came in the first half. Punjab now have 17 points from 10 games, and are three points behind league leaders Mohun Bagan, who also have a game in hand. Neroca, having a disappointing season by their standards, will remain on eighth place with eight points from nine completed games now.

Cameroonian striker Dipanda Dicka is also now the sole top scorer of the league with eight goals to his name. This was his first hat-trick of the season and also the first of the 13th Hero I-League.Gift Raikhan of Neroca fielded new signing Philip Adja Tetteh of Ghana to partner Malian Boubacar Diara up front while bringing on Ousmane Diawara at the back as Dhananjoy Singh sat out of the last game. Both his replacements would have contrasting effects on the game later on.

29/01/2020 : PUNJAB FC 3-2 NEROCA FC (FT..)

Yan Law, the Punjab coach, was forced to bench Brazilian Danillo, replacing him with Nirmal Chetri. Munmun also made the cut with Yumnam Raju sitting out.Makan Chothe had the first clear chance at goal for Punjab as early as the 2nd minute of the game when a Cavin Lobo ball found him one-on-one with the keeper, but a heavy first touch was enough for Trinidadian keeper Marvin Devon Phillip to come out and collect.

Neroca took the lead in the 4th minute when Varun Thokchom’s audacious, yet delectable back-flick from the near post off a corner, completely foxed the Punjab defence and keeper Kiran Limbu in goal. They struck again in the 20th minute, this time thanks to a fatal back-pass by Liberian defender Teah Dennis. It was collected half-way by Philip Tetteh, to the horror of a frantically onrushing Limbu and promptly deposited over the keeper into the back of the net.

The double-strikes were enough for Yan Law to immediately bring on Brazilian front-man Teixeira Junior in place of Chote.Their urgency brought Neroca’s Siam Hangal a booking for a foul on the Cameroonian Hero of the Match Dicka as well as a free-kick in a dangerous position outside the box. Dicka did not let the opportunity go and curled a beauty past the wall and away from a fully stretched Marvin to bring the hosts well and truly back into the game.

If there was any doubt, Dicka put them to rest with a second just before the lemon break. Off another set-piece, Sanju Pradhan floated one into the box for Dicka to this time rise above all including ahead of the keeper, to head towards goal. It bounced off Marvin and went in, much to the delight of home fans.If one thought the second half held much promise, one was to be disappointed as the pace and urgency of both sides dropped.

There were two chances of note. First, when Samuel Shadap’s stinging strike from 30 yards out beat Marvin and hit the post for the hosts and then Tetteh was off on a run in the 77th minute and his shot from well inside the box could not beat the keeper. With the game petering out towards a draw, Limbu’s long hoik up the field seemingly bounced harmlessly inside the Neroca half. As the ball made its way towards the box, Malian centre-back Ousmane Diawara completely misread the bounce and Dicka pounced on it before the keeper could, to tap it past him into the net. It rounded off a stellar day in office. Punjab FC are now on a nine-game unbeaten streak.

AIFF PRESS RELEASE : History was made in the first-ever Imphal derby as Tiddim Road Athletic Union (TRAU) FC registered a magnificent comeback victory over their city rivals, NEROCA FC at the Khuman Lumpak Stadium on Wednesday, January 08.Boubacar Diarra gave the visitors the lead in the 9th minute before Naocha Singh equalised for TRAU in the 41st minute. Krishnananda Singh headed home for the hosts in the 64th minute, which turned out to be the match-winner.

08.01.2020: TRAU FC 2-1 NEROCA FC (FT)

Both sides made three changes each, with TRAU FC head coach Dimitris Dimitriou opting to start with Krishnannanda Singh and Naocha Singh upfront to partner Princewill Emeka. Geron Augustus Williams also found a place in the midfield three, but the backline remained unchanged.Gift Raikhan recalled Togo forward Zico Sekle to his NEROCA starting XI, pairing up with Boubacar Diarra in the attack. Young midfielder Jiteshwar Singh was also named to start, ahead of Gaty Kouami. Zodingliana replaced Khanngam Horam, and found a place next to Khaminthang Lhungdim in the middle of the park.

The game truly lived up to its billing of a derby right from kick-off. In the second minute, TRAU goalkeeper Mithun Samanta came off his line to clear a lobbed delivery but made a total hash of it, as his attempted clearance fell straight to the feet of Chanso Horam, who saw the goal gaping and chipped it over the keeper, but Abhishek Das was at the right place to head it clear off the goal line.Neroca’s persistent pressing paid dividends quite early. In the ninth minute, a Sushil Meitei delivery inside the box was met with a ferocious left-footed volley from Boubacar Diarra, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance as Gift Raikhan’s men struck first blood in the Imphal derby.

TRAU didn’t waste any time in getting back on their feet and almost equalised not very long after. In the 17th minute, a beautifully threaded pass by Phalguni Singh put Naocha Singh through on goal and with only the keeper to beat, hit it straight at him.The hosts kept piling on the pressure. In the 32nd minute, Princewill Emeka displayed some exquisite footwork with some smart twists and turns, which left young defender Taryk Sampson completely at bay, which allowed the TRAU skipper to get his shot away but Marvin Devon Phillip between the Neroca sticks was alert to the danger and made the save.

In the 41st minute, it was Emeka again with some neat footwork on the left flank and this time, he delivered a cross which was met inside the six-yard box by an outstretched leg of Naocha Singh, and with the near post completely gaping, TRAU found their equaliser going into half-time.

The second half resumed with the same intensity and rigour, as Gift Raikhan wasted no time in making his first change. In the 48th minute, Gaty Kouami was brought on at the expense of Zico Sekle, who had a quiet first half. The change signalled a switch in formation, from a classical 4-4-2 to a more pragmatic 4-2-3-1, leaving Boubacar Diarra as the sole striker upfront. In the 64th minute, the stadium erupted into a frenzy of celebration, as TRAU took the lead through Krishnananda Singh, who soared the highest to head home a corner by Angousana Luwang, leaving Devon Phillip in goal stranded.

TRAU almost added a third, which would have served as the cherry on the icing on the top, but Patrick Uche’s freekick from about 30 yards out ricocheted off the woodwork, after Devon Phillip had initially gotten a fingertip to the goal-bound attempt.Neroca had one last opportunity in the dying stages of the game, when a beautifully weighted Sushil Meitei set-piece fell to Diarra, but this time, he misjudged the flight of the ball in what would have been an easy header.

The referee blew for full-time as the Khuman Lumpak Stadium bore witness to scenes and celebrations that will remain etched forever in the history of Tiddim Road Athletic Union, and the memory of every Indian football aficionado in general, as they register their first-ever Hero I-League victory with a sensational comeback victory in the first-ever Imphal derby. The victory takes TRAU to ninth place in the Hero I-League standings, one above Neroca, who drop to tenth.

AIFF PRESS RELEASE : All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) developmental side Indian Arrows played out a 1-1 draw with NEROCA FC at the Tilak Maidan in Goa on Sunday, January 5. Sushil Meitei gave the visitors the lead in the 24th minute before Vikram Partap Singh equalised for the hosts three minutes to the end of the first half.

Arrows head coach Shanmugam Venkatesh retained the majority of his previous line-up, with only two changes in the form of Aman Chetri slotting into the front three ahead of Harmanpreet Singh and Bikash Yumnam starting at the back in place of Saurabh Meher. Hoping for a repeat of their stellar performance against Churchill Brothers, coach Venkatesh stuck to his tried and tested 4-3-3 formation.

NEROCA head coach Gift Raikhan, on the other hand, opted for an avant-garde approach, fielding a 4-2-3-1. Gaty Kouami was reinstated into the starting eleven, forming a double pivot with Chanso Horam in the middle of the park. Khaiminthang Lhungdim served in the number ten role, with Boubacar Diarra as the lone striker upfront.

The match struggled for direction in the opening stages, with either of the sides struggling to retain possession for long. The first real opening of the match fell to the Arrows in the 15th minute. A great through ball by Ayush Adhikari found Vikram Partap Singh, who had made a well-timed run, but was denied in the nick of time by a calculated tackle from Ousmane Diawara.

In the 24th minute, it was NEROCA who took the lead through a free-kick about 25 yards from goal. Sushil Meitei was on the other end of the set-piece and his effort went over the wall and into the bottom right corner, through the palms of Lalbikhlua Jongte in the Arrows goal. The visitors almost doubled their lead four minutes later, this time through Boubacar Diarra. The Malian forward was at the right place to head a Meitei cross towards goal, but his effort flashed a whisker wide off the woodwork.

The Arrows, who were enjoying lion’s share of possession, started showing more intent in the final ten minutes of the half and their persistence was rewarded going into half-time. In the 42nd minute, the hosts earned a corner which was taken by Givson Singh and headed across to the far post by Vikram Pratap for the equaliser, as both sides headed into halftime with a goal apiece.

Gift Raikhan’s men came out in the second half with more intent, looking to strike early. In the 48th minute, a beautifully weighted ball by Lhungdim was latched onto by Khanngam Horam and with only the keeper to beat, he hit it straight at him.The visitors were turning on the style and in what can be summed up as a moment of deft brilliance in the 56th minute, Gaty Kouami displayed his finesse and flair. Just when he seemed to be losing possession, the Togo midfielder scooped the ball with an exquisite first touch and tried pulling off a spectacular with a scissor kick. It was nothing short of an audacious attempt indeed but Jongte, in goal, was all alert to collect.

Indian Arrows had a late surge in the closing stages of the game and in the 86th minute, had a huge shout for a penalty when Vikram was brought down in the box by Diawara but the referee didn’t pay any heed to that. The scoreline remained unaltered as the spoils were shared in a thoroughly entertaining draw in Goa. Either side’s position in the Hero I-League table remain unchanged, with Shanmugam Venkatesh’s side are placed tenth with four points, while NEROCA remain ninth having amassed one point more.

AIFF PRESS RELEASE : Neroca FC came back strongly from 2-goal deficit to register a 2-2 draw against Chennai City FC at the JLN Stadium in Coimbatore tonight (December 21, 2019). Following the draw, Chennai City remain seventh on the table with five points and Neroca FC stay one place below with four points.

Chennai City FC started the game on a positive note with dominating possession from the onset. They started with an unchanged line-up from the match against Aizawl FC as the trio of Fito, Pedro Manzi and Sandro were unavailable for the match. After launching attacks relentlessly on Neroca goal for the first 25 minutes, it seemed Neroca’s defence would hold on till the end of the half, but eventually, they faltered. It was Katsumi Yusa who was fouled by a Neroca defender inside the box and Chennai got a golden chance to go ahead.

In the 26th minute, Katsumi Yusa stepped up to take the penalty and converted with finesse. Chennai went 1-0 up. Much time didn’t pass by as Chennai were growing more in confidence. With the clock striking 32 minutes, a beautifully built up play from the back and an inch-perfect cross into the box by Jockson Dhas found Mashoor Shereef inside the box, who didn’t make any mistake and headed the ball into the goal from close.

With Chennai leading 2-0, it was now up to Neroca to make a comeback before they head into half-time. Both coaches made some changes within the first half as Neroca brought on Gaty Kouami on for his compatriot Yawo Zico. Chennai coach Akbar Nawas brought in Ranjeet Singh for young Bijay Chhetri. With Chennai City FC poised to go into the second half with a two-goal lead, Neroca FC struck in 45+3’ min as a header from under-22 midfielder Khaiminthang Lhungdim got one back for Neroca FC. The score at half-time stood at 2-1 in favour of Chennai City FC.

The play resumed and Neroca stepped up the pressure on Chennai. Even after playing a more pressing game Neroca wasn’t able to break the defence, but a careless mistake by the Chennai defence lead to a foul inside the box on Boubacar Diarra and penalty was awarded. He himself stepped up and scored from the spotkick to level the score at 2-2 with the clock ticking 65 minutes.

Chennai were not ready to let it go and switched the gear but none were able to edge past the Neroca Captain and keeper Marvin Devon Phillip. In the 82nd minute, Chennai launched a counter-attack and a perfect cross from the right-wing for Chennai ended at the feet of Katsumi but he couldn’t control the ball and the chance went begging.

Within a few moments, Katsumi again found him one-on-one with Neroca keeper but this time the keeper came out victorious. Phillip had a couple of heart-in-the-mouth situations but the hosts were not able to exploit those situations. In the 90th minute, Neroca made their final change to ensure that score stays the same as defender Dhananjoy Singh replaced Siam Hanghal. Neroca finally managed to hold on as the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

AIFF PRESS RELEASE : The first Northeastern derby of Hero I-League 2019-20 ended in a 1-0 win for Neroca FC as Ousmane Diawara’s goal in the 28th minute was the only separating point between the two teams. Aizawl FC, who dominated the possession with 57% of the ball possession, eventually failed to convert any of their 15 shots in the match.
06.12.2019 : NEROCA FC 1-0 AIZAWL FC (FT)
The match started with both the teams looking to move forward in the initial moments of the game. Though Neroca FC were enjoying the majority of the possession, Aizawl looked sharp with their passing and running with the ball. The first major chance of the half came in the 13th minute for the home team but Chanso Horam, who had a clear shot on left flank failed to convert the same. With this first chance, Neroca FC was slowly growing in confidence and this time the chance came from the right side but the young no.9 Khaiminthang Lhungdim side-netted his shot in the 22nd minute.

The crunch moment of the game came in the 27th minute when Neroca got a free-kick from just outside the 18-yard box. Zodingliana was vested with the responsibility and a thunderous left-footed kick hit the goal post and Ousmane Diawara capitalized on the rebound, as he put the ball in the back of the net with 28 mins on the clock.

On the 34th minute, from a free-kick just outside the box, Aizawl FC’s Paul Ramfangzauva struck a thunderous shot but the Neroca FC Goalkeeper flew to his right and made a tremendous save to keep his team’s lead intact In the dying minutes of the half, Aizawl FC was making good advances especially down the right flank as Isak Vanlalruatfela was creating problems for the defence. With just a few seconds remaining in the first half, Neroca FC got another chance to double their lead but the shot on goal by Chanso Horam was deflected from the body of an Aizawl FC defender for a corner.

The first half ended with the home team leading 1-0. After the changeover, Aizawl FC got a corner but the resulting header was cleared by the Neroca FC defence from the goal line. In the 66th minute, Aizawl FC brought on K. Lalhmangaihkima for William Lalnunfela in order to provide better supply to Abdoulaye Kanoute. Soon after, Neroca FC made a tactical change by bringing on a midfielder Ronald Singh for Khaiminthang Lhungdim.

Aizawl FC was continuously pushing forward but wasn’t able to break the Neroca FC defence. The away team came very near to clinching an equaliser in the dying moments but the shot from the outside of the box rattled the Neroca FC goal post and went out of bound. The search for an equaliser finally ended in vain as Neroca FC held on to their slender lead and the match ended in favour of the home team.

AIFF PRESS RELEASE : In front of a packed audience of 31,184 home fans, Gokulam Kerala got their Hero I-League 2019-20 season underway on a positive note by pulling off a 2-1 victory over Manipur’s NEROCA FC at the EMS Corporation Stadium in Kozhikode on Saturday (November 30, 2019). Goals from Henry Kisekka in the 43rd minute and Marcus Joseph in the 49th minute almost took the home side to victory before Taryk Sampson pulled one back for the visitors late in the game.

Both returning coaches fielded a line-up signalling attacking intent. The spearheading duo of Marcus Joseph and Henry Kisekka, to nobody’s surprise, featured in the Starting XI. Trinidadian Andre Etienne started in defence with Nathaniel Garcia in the heart of midfield.

30.11.2019 : GOKULAM KERALA FC 2-1 NEROCA FC (FT..)
NEROCA FC opted for a less cautious approach, with coach Gift Raikhan fielding a 3-5-2 formation. New signing and club skipper, Trinidadian veteran Marvin Devon Phillip started in goal with his young compatriot Taryk Sampson starting in defence while Malian forward Boubacar Diarra was the focal point of Neroca offence. It was the home side that dictated the tempo of the game right from the kick-off whistle. With rigid pressing and stitched passes, Gokulam were looking to make the most of their attacking arsenal.

They had a golden chance to take the lead in the 16th minute when a cross from the left flank found Kisekka, who had a free header to capitalize on, but his effort was off the mark. The Ugandan, along with Marcus Joseph, remained a constant threat throughout the game.In the 35th minute, Marcus Joseph had a free-kick which he attempted shoot under the wall, but it ricocheted off the defence and fell at his feet again, which he attempts to volley but his effort missed the mark by a whisker, sailing over the crossbar.

The deadlock was broken in the 43rd minute, when Henry Kisekka’s left-footed effort from close range found the back of the net to send Gokulam in front, going into half-time. The second half began the way the first half had ended in. In the 49th minute, across from the right flank found Marcus Joseph inside the box and he made no mistake in scoring from the open header to double the home side’s advantage.

Against the run of play, NEROCA finally pulled one back in the 88th minute. An acrobatic bicycle kick from Taryk Sampson off a set-piece gave the visitors a lifeline but it turned out to be nothing more than a consolation. The Malabarians earned all three points to get their season underway on a positive note, following up from their Durand Cup-winning pre-season form. Marcus Joseph was declared the Hero of the Match.
