WOMEN FOOTBALL INDIA - ASIAN GAMES 2014

06.09.2014: INDIA WOMEN 4-2 Century Park FC

AIFF PRESS RELEASE : INDIA: Aditi Chauhan, Ashalata Devi, Umapati Devi, Radharani Devi, Tuli Goon, Bembem Devi (captain), Premi Devi, Kamala Devi, Mandakini Devi, Prameshwori Devi, Bala Devi. China touring India Women's Senior National Team breezed past Century Park Football Club 4-2 in a friendly match in Shanghai on Saturday (September 6, 2014). Striker Bala Devi notched up a hattrick and midfielder Premi Devi added another as India dominated their opponents from start to finish.

Bala - who delivered a glut of goals in the Women's Nationals - pulled away from the hosts as 6th minute, running 20 yards to get on the end of a delightful move from the left flank. The tall Manipuri striker then hoodwinked her marker to slam home with the goalkeeper in position to thwart the powerful effort.

The second goal came four minutes later this time Bala slaloming past three defenders to finally round off goalkeeper and guide the ball into the back of the net. With Bala in sublime form, the rest of the team looked in fine fettle too. Four minutes past the half hour mark, Prameshwori slid in Bala and she on the day could do nothing wrong. It was 3-0 and the opponents were already looking for cover.

Post the breather, it was the same story as Premi Devi got on the scoresheet with a clinical strike from 25 yards. The hosts pulled two back in the 60th and 72nd minutes but the India rearguard showed solidarity in the dying minutes to not let the cushion plummet further.

India Women 0-3 Century Park FC

28.08.2014: AIFF Press Release : The Asian Games bound India Women's National Team went down 0-3 to Century Park FC in their first practice match in Shanghai, China on Thursday (August 28, 2014). India conceded on both sides of halftime with their best chance coming in the second period when just appointed captain Bembem Devi failed to convert from the penalty spot.

India took time to adjust to the conditions at the Century Park stadium in Shanghai. The hosts, a mixed bag of U-16 and U-18 girls and boys - mostly European - training at the Park facilities, took advantage of their counterparts' initial jitteriness to surge ahead in the 20th minute. A well take free kick flew past goalkeeper Aditi Chauhan and into her right top corner.

Stung by the early goal, the twice SAFF champions pressed the accelerator. Striker Bala Devi missed a gilt edged chance shooting over from Sasmita Malik's in swinging cross from the right. Moments later the Women's Nationals highest scorer fluffed again from close, this time dragging her effort wide after good work down the middle by Bembem and Premi Devi.

Changing over, India had their best chance to draw level. Winger Kamala Devi cut inside two markers to dart inside the box only to be felled by the last stopper back. The referee pointed to the spot but Bembem uncharacteristically put her take over the frame.

The hosts doubled their tally against the run of play with India on the prowl. A swift counter attacking down the left channel provided the second goal for the Shanghai outfit. India refused to throw in the towel as coach Tarun Roy made the most of endless number of substitutions’ rule in friendlies, ringing in a host of changes.

But best efforts fell flat as they went further down with ten minutes to go India’s day was summed up when keeper Aditi's double save to deny the rival striker from appetizing angles went up in smoke as on the second rebound the ball was poked home mercilessly.

India next play Shanghai SVT on September 2.

Indian Women went down 0-10 to a superior Thailand side in their third Group A match of the Women's Football Competition in the Incheon Asian Games on Sunday (September 21). Thailand led eight-nil at the interval. Four goals each from Captain Sung Ngoen Kanjana and midfielder Boothduang Wilaiporn, and one each from substitutes Sornsai Pitasamai and Seesraum Naphat sealed the issue for Thailand in an one-sided encounter. Such was Thailand's domination that they surged into a 2-0 lead within eight minutes of the match and breezed to a 6-0 lead by the half hour mark.

India felt the absence of regular Captain Bembem Devi – suspended for the game for a double booking against South Korea - in the midfield as their fleet footed counterparts got behind the back four more often than not. Stand in captain Romi Devi and her defensive partners did try to shut it down but in vain. However, the Indian Women looked much better in the second period after conceding one early, and their efforts bore fruit when striker Bala Devi headed Kamala Devi’s cross from the inside the box, went wide in the 78th minute. That was the closest India came.

Kamala picked out Bala once again with the match nearing final whistle but the tall Manipuri was closed down well by two defenders.Goalkeeper Aditi Chauhan matched the efforts up at the other end, saving twice in split seconds to deny Naphat from the penalty spot but the substitute striker drilled low past the Delhi keeper in her third attempt to close the match on 10-0.

Four goals from Yoo Younga, hattrick from Jeon Gaeul, a brace from Jung Seoblin and one from Park Heeyoung saw the Asian heavyweights brush aside their Indian counterparts. The match was a totally one-sided affair as Korea Republic dominated proceedings right from the kick-off. So much so, that they surged into a 2-0 lead by the 9th minute itself.

Thereafter, there was a barrage of attacks at the India citadel as the Indian Women stayed busy defending all throughout. To make matters worse, Captain Bembem Devi was given marching orders for her second yellow card of the match in the 53rd minute.

14.09.2014: India 15-0 Maldives
IND : (Sasmita Malik – 5th, 23rd, 26th, 80th, 87th), Kamala Devi – 17th 23rd 31st 45+3, 66th), Bala Devi (18th 45+1), (Ashalata Devi – 54th), (Bembem Devi – 56th), Prameshwori Devi 90+3)

14.09.2014 : AIFF PRESS RELEASE : India began their campaign in the Incheon Asian Games on a high when the Indian Women's Football Team came up with a dominating performance to pump in more than a dozen goals past Maldives to win 15-0 in their first Group A match on Sunday (September 14) and move a step closer to a quarterfinal berth in the Competition.

Five-star performances from winger Sasmita Malik and midfielder Kamala Devi underlined India's dominance in a match where their counterparts failed to register even a single shot on goal.

Captain Bembem Devi, strikers Bala and Prameshwori Devi alongwith defender Ashalata Devi also got on the scoresheet. It was such a lopsided encounter that goalkeeper Aditi Chauhan would rue not netting one. The Indian women who led 9-0 at the interval next play hosts South Korea on September 17 while their last Group League match is against Thailand on September 19.

The twice SAFF Champions seized the initiative right from the kick-off as they dominated proceedings all throughout in the completely one-sided encounter. The flurry of passes, the slowing down of the game at will, the sudden bursts of speed and the quick interchanging proved too much for the Maldives women as they surrendered meekly.

Meanwhile, the Indian U-23 Men begin their campaign on Monday (September 15) when they take on a strong United Arab Emirates, the silver medalists of the last Asian Games held in Guangzhou in 2010. The kick-off of the match is at IST 1.30pm.However, the last time the two Teams met in the AFC U-22 Championships in Muscat, the match had ended 1-1.

Coming to the goals, it was as early as in the 5th minute when Bembem - who by the end of the match was the architect of almost all the goals – picked out Sasmita on top of the box, with the fleet footed left winger then turning her marker to smash a powerful shot low to the keeper’s right.

Midfielder Kamala doubled the tally for the blue shirts 12 minutes later with fine strike from inside the area after combining well with Bembem. In form striker Bala made pulled away further from their lacklustre counterparts in the very next minute, placing the ball onto the roof of the net from a Tuli Goon cross from the right.Three minutes later, Sasmita got her second this time scoring off the rebound after Prameshwori Devi had forced the keeper to a diving save.

It was only the 21st minute of the match and the all of Maldives' players were drafted inside their own half to stop the carnage. But nothing was going to work as Kamala heaped on more misery in the 23rd minute turning well to beat her marker and firing low off another Bembem put-through.

Sasmita notched up her hattrick in the 26th minute and by the half hour mark Kamala did the same. By the time it was halftime Bala was at the double and Kamala had scored her fourth as India went into the break leading by 9 goals.Ashalata joined the fun after the break with Bembem deservingly netting one too as India gave the scorers at the ground a harrowing time.Kamala scored her fifth in the 66th minute, Bembem again turning provider to tee up her state mate.

Sasmita crowned her superlative showing with a dipping free kick in the 80th minute from 25 yards. She was not done yet, turning in her fifth seven minutes on. Prameshwori completed the rout in added time.
