ABHISHEK BHATTACHARYYA : Chile lost to Spain 2-1 in their first round match back in 2010 World Cup and last night they got back their revenge. The Defending champions Spain are out of World Cup, 2014 as the curse continues for the defenders. Previously 2006 Champions Italy was knocked out of the last edition in first round. France also went back home in 2002.

Chile was definitely the stronger side going into this match, and Spain had everything to play for after their dismal performance against Louis Van Gaal's army last week. Chile maintained their strong attacking moves and played like knights guarding their fortress.
-----------------------------
In the year 1962, 1966, 1978 and 1998 Spain went out from Group League. This was the 3rd encounter of the two in final stage of World Cup where Sapin won two times 1950 and 2010 and Chile took revenge in 2014 as they win the match . 2010 World Champions Spain are out form Brazil 2014 World Cup from Group Stage. The same happened to France in 2002 Japan-Korea World Cup. The 1998 winner France out from Group league earned only 1 point as they lost 0-1 to Senegal, then Drew 0-0 to Uruguay and lost 0-2 to Denmark. Now Spain have a chance to get 3 points or 1 against Australia.

1938 Winner Italy - Group 'C' was unable to enter in Final round of 1950 Brazil World Cup.
1962 winner Brazil - Group 'C' was unable to enter in Qr Final Round in 1966 England World Cup.
1966 winner England - Group 'B' was unable to enter in Qr Final stage of 1970 Mexico World Cup.
2006 winner Italy - Group 'F' was unable to enter in Round of 16 of 2010 South Africa World Cup .

----------------------------
Eduardo Vargas made the first move around 20 minutes for Chile as Iker Casillas and co. again faltered to hold their opponents who dominated them throughout. Spain failed to keep their possession in right places and went down 2-0 just before the end of first half when Charles Aranguiz scored from an Iker Casillas re-bound in the 43rd minute.

Xabi Alonso was replaced by Koke in the 2nd half and though he was trying to break through the Chilean ranks, Diego Costa's inability to get past the Chilean defense would haunt the Spanish fans for the rest of the week.

Spanish striker Diego Costa is the biggest failure in terms of Spanish performance as he missed a sitter in the 2nd half followed by Sergio Busquets failing to score from a Diego Costa back volley inside the Chilean box. As Costa made way for Fernando Torres, the fans started booing the Brazilian born Spanish forward. But then Torres also failed to penetrate the Chilean fort resulting in an early exit from Brazil.

Spanish coach Del Bosque was put down by his defense and even the midfield didn't do enough. It is definitely the end of an era for 2010 World Cup Champions who started their magical run from 2008 winning the Euro Cup and defending the same trophy in 2012.
