21.03.2014: USC PRESS RELEASE : United Sports Club will face Salgaocar FC in their 20th round I-League match at Tilak Maidan, Vasco, Goa on Saturday evening. United Sporting Club flew to Goa amidst a number of questions whose answers are still to be found. The club is under troubled water since the kick off of the season. Though the management is pushing too hard to meet the ends, there is hardly any silver lining till now.

"I brought Mohun Bagan out of relegation zone before. I am pretty confident how to tackle this kind of condition", Subrata Bhattacharya sounded confident before the team boarded the Goa flight yesterday. United SC started their I-League campaign with vigor, but they lost their focus midway. Unfortunately, their winless streak has been running for last 4 months almost. Incidentally, this win came against Dempo SC at Tilak Maidan Stadium, Goa on 23rd November, 2013.

In the first leg, United Sporting Club was at the receiving end while Salgaocar triumphed with a 2-0 win at Kalyani Stadium. Recently, Salgaocar FC is flying high since the commencement of I-League in February. They are enjoying 2nd position in the table with 33 points from 19 outings. On the other hand, United SC is struggling at the 11th place with 20 points from as many matches.

"We don't care whether we are going to play in home or away. Every minute is important for us. We need to clinch as many wins as we can. We can't afford to lose a single point now onwards', Subrata Bhattacharya pointed out how vital this match is going to be for the purple brigade.

To add more woe, United SC's experience custodian Sangram Mukherjee is out due to his sustained injury also in this match. Any one of Jayanta Pal and Abhijit Das would be selected to stand between the woodwork on the match day itself. Lalkamal Bhowmick, the mainstay could not travel along with the team because of his injury. Defense line would be expected to change as Anupam Sarkar ruled out, who is likely to be replaced by Sukhen Dey.

The pivot of midfield, Eric Brown would be the linchpin of the attack, he has already scored 8 goals in the ongoing I-League. The team would bank heavily on the Nigerian striker Waheed Owolabi and Md. Rafiq. Owolabi has shown his caliber in just 4 outings till now. Once he is delivered calculated passes, he could wreck Derrick Perriara’s party.

Bello Razzaq and veteran Indian Deepak Mandal has to carry the workload in the defense line. Once these guys coordinate well with the goalie and compose a strong defiance, the Goan side has to toil too hard to find the back of the net.

Meanwhile Salgaocar are four points behind league leaders Bengaluru FC and have enjoyed a rich vein of form that has seen them win five matches in a row. For a team that had not won any of their previous seven matches, it has been some transformation and Pereira has warned his team against complacency.

"I don't think the team will be complacent but it's important that we secure full points against United Sports Club. A lot many feel they are struggling but the players have been together for some time and they can be a dangerous side," said Pereira.

It's really high time for the purple brigade to sparkle and to ruin Salgaocar FC's party at their den. Once the Bengal side outplays the 2nd placed team in Goa, it would be a monumental victory for the team who would find themselves a little bit of secure from the relegation zone.

Probable Team Squad: Jayanta, Deepak, Bello, Sukhen, Dhanachandra, Tapan/Jayanta, K.Asif, Souvik, Rafique, Erick, Waheed.
