East Bengal registered an important win at home in I League today when they out railed Spoting Clube De Goa by an odd goals to two . The closing stages of the League are approaching towards a close finish as the Red and Gold are now one of the contenders of the tittle.

East Bengal were enjoying the terrirorial supremacy, but had to wait till the stroke of the breather before they could break the deadlock. A number of mispasses in the attacking third by the Red and Gold Brigade were marked negatively in their performances. Sporting had some occasional counter attacks, but unable to disturb Raju and Arnab except for an instances.

A right footed shot from age of the 18 yards by Joseph Perira were fisted by Abhra Mondal who played his first I League match this season. Abhra had a brillant come back today as he saved a volley of Beevan D Mello which was followed by a head of Kalu Ogba within a very close distance.

Baljit Singh scored his second goal of this year's I League in the added time of the first session following a gem of a centre of Dika from the left. Baljit placed the ball in almost empty goal leaving the Sporting goalkeeper Melroy standed at the line. East Bengal increased the lead in the 64th minute when Dika converted from 25yards following a pass from Suoeka. Sporting equalised at the 89th minute when Beevan D Mello scored following a melle in front of East Bengal goal.

East Bengal are now on the forth position of the I league table with 31 points. Dempo Sports Club and Pune FC are on 31 points but they have played 21 and 20 matches respectively as compared to East Bengal who have played 19 matches.

PREVIEW : 29.03.2014: JAYDIP DASGUPTA : The I league is wide open as the closing stage is proceeding towards a close finish. The League leaders Bangaluru FC and the second positioned Salgaokar wasted points in the final lap in the last two days made the League more contested. Moreover Dempo's win against Churchill has changed the equation of the I-League completely.

The latest league table shows that the top five clubs Bangaluru, Salgaokar ,Dempo(played 21 matches), Pune FC (played 20 matches), and East Bengal (played 18 matches) are close to each other as far as the points are concerned and no wonder a lot of climax is on reckoning at the final stages of the 2013-14 I league.

The Red and Gold are still having a chance to be a contented of the tittle. East Bengal will face against the Sporting Clube Of Goa in their nineteenth encounter at home tomorrow. East Bengal are 10 points behind the league leaders Bangaluru FC though they have three games still in hand. East Bengal drew against Mumbai FC in their last match against Mumbai FC in a last minute equalizer and will face the Sporting Clube who are always a strong hurdle in the recent past.

Armando Calaco, the Red and Gold coach are in a positive frame of mind regarding Sunday's match. He, in a pre match media meeting at Kolkata today stated "The title race is not over yet. It's tough for everybody. We want to take one game at a time so let's try and win this fixture,".

Sporting Clube had a impressive beginning but failed to continue their pace in the last five matches. In fact they lost to Mohun Bagan in their last match at Goa by a margin of 3-1. The Sporing Goa's Spanish coach Oscar Bruzon is eying a top-five finish in the league.

In the media meeting at East Bengal club while interacting Oscar Bruzon said the teams rhythm was somewhat upset due to continuous games after the winter break.In spite of injuries we will try to win with our full effort.
