MFC PRESS RELEASE MATCH REPORT : Mumbai FC came from a goal down to hold high-flying Dempo SC to a 1-1 draw in an I-League Round 24 encounter at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda on Saturday. Playmaker Roberto Mendes Silva ‘Beto’ (45+1st) put Dempo SC ahead in the first half before a late goal from striker Alfred Jaryan (88th) earned Mumbai FC a well-deserved point.

Mumbai FC’s thirteenth draw in the season took their tally to 25 points and helped them move up to eighth in the league standings. After a slow start to the game, Mumbai FC went close through striker Yusif Yakubu in the 10th minute but the Ghanaian couldn’t finish the move started by Jayesh Rane.

Six minutes later, Mumbai FC suffered a blow when medio N. P. Pradeep was injured and had to be taken off with playmaker Climax Lawrence replacing him. Mumbai FC once again went close midway through the half. However, substitute Climax on the run, failed to get a touch Arash Hatifie's inch perfect cross inside the box.

Mumbai FC kept on pushing ahead but it was the hosts who took the lead against the run of play in the first minute of injury time. After defender Sandesh Jhingan brought down Jewel Raja, Beto curled in an unstoppable freekick to give Dempo a 1-0 lead going into the breather.

Seven minutes after restart, medio Ashutosh Mehta almost pulled Mumbai FC level. However, the youngster’s attempt on Rahul Bheke’s long throw-in was blocked by the keeper. Thereafter Mumbai FC kept on soaking pressure going ahead on the occasional counter attack for majority of the second half. Defender Sandesh was at his best keeping all Dempo attackers at bay.

Into the final ten minutes, Mumbai FC’s persistence finally paid off as Alfred Jaryan scored two minutes from the full time whistle. Rahul’s long throw-in from the right was perfectly headed into the net by the Liberian striker to earn Mumbai FC a point.

MATCH PREVIEW : 04.04.2014: DEMPO SC PRESS RELEASE : Dempo Sports Club will be looking for their ninth win of the season and a possibility to climb further up in the table when they host Mumbai FC on 5th April in an I-League encounter at Fatorda stadium, Margao.

Going into this match, the golden eagles will be inspired by last week’s 1-4 victory over local rivals Churchill brothers. Striker Tolgay Ozbey, who scored 4 goals in the last match, will be looked upon for motivation by his side. Dempo are currently placed 4th in the table with 31 points from 21 matches while Mumbai FC are 10th with 24 points from equal number of matches.

Even after winning five I-League matches out of six in 2014, Dempo Coach Arthur Papas shows why his team needs to be non-complacent against the lower placed Mumbai team…

“They (Mumbai FC) are a tricky team to come up against, they defend quite deep and depend a lot on their transition to attack and set-pieces, also they are team which has street smarts and try to make an advantage in every situation. This is why we must be 100% concentrated and focused to negate their threats and to also keep playing the positive football we have been doing of late” affirms the Australian.

Although the odds are in favour of the home team as Mumbai FC is yet to win a match against them at Fatorda in I-League, the Mumbaikar's will be arriving fresh from their away win against Shillong Lajong and a draw against East Bengal in the earlier round.

"Mumbai FC has shown all year they are a very competitive team and proving that again by defeating Shilong last week which not many in the league have been able to do. All week we have spoken about how tricky a fixture this could be if we are not at 100% in every part of the game" said Arthur Papas.

There are no injury worries for Dempo and they will have their full squad available for Fridays match. "We will have close to a full squad available to choose from so the competition for places is positive, as it ensures everyone is training and preparing correctly in order to gain a starting position" summed up the head coach.
