Man of the match, Anthony Wolfe netted a second half brace as Sporting Clube de Goa drew 2-2 with Kingfisher East Bengal in an entertaining HERO I-League encounter, at Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata on Saturday. East Bengal led 1-0 at the interval through the boot of the I-League's current top goal scorer Ranti Martins.

East Bengal took the lead on the half hour mark, when Milan Susak played an ambitious long ball forward from the defence which picked out Ranti Martins and he wonderfully controlled it before blasting into the back of the net. East Bengal made a double substitution at half time bringing on Arnab Mondal and Harmanjot Khabra in place of Mohammed Rafique and Raju Gaikwad who had picked up a yellow card just before the breather. Sporting Goa also made a change, bringing in Victorino Fernandes for Beevan D'Mello.

Sporting Goa started to dominate early on but it was East Bengal who increased their lead after Ranti Martins curled in a beautiful free kick from the edge of the box, to score his second of the game and his twelfth of the season. Sporting Goa made a substitution bringing on new signing Marcus Mascarenhas for another debutant Mahmoud Al Amnah. They now had fresh legs on either wing with Victorino and Marcus who provided plenty of pace to put their opponents on the back foot.

Sporting Goa continued to pile on the pressure and was rewarded when a looping ball fell nicely in the danger area for Anthony Wolfe to take a snap shot and it got a slight touch of an East Bengal defender before entering the net. Sporting Goa carried on growing in confidence and probing further afield. Odafa who was being marked tightly, managed to find some space and his cross was met by Victorino whose shot looked like it was entering the net, before Wolfe tapped it in on the goal line to make sure and draw the Flaming Oranje level.

In the closing exchanges, Sporting Goa continued to maraud forward but could not find the winner and in the end both teams had to be content with a point each. Sporting Goa has now collected 4 points from nine outings while East Bengal move up to 13 points from eight matches.

East Bengal and Sporting Clube will going to meet in one of the important match of the I league on Saturday evening at Kolkata. East Bengal required to earn full points in order to stay in the championship , whereas Sporting Goa , who are at the bottom of the League table required points for their survival. East Bengal is currently placed 5TH in the League table with 12 points from 7 matches while Sporting Goa is bottom of table with 3 points from 8 matches.

Sporting Goa are proved to be the strong hurdle in front of East Bengal. East Bengal is unbeaten to Sporting in Last 12 I-League Matches and unbeaten in 6 home Matches so far in a total 10 home matches. The highest home match win record is 4-3.

The main concern for East Bengal is the urorganised central defense who are yet to combine even after the mid session. It is likely that Arnab Mondal will be back along with Raju Gaikwad, while Harmonjot Khabra, Lalrimrim Dika Lalte and Sukbinder Singh are to be deputed in the midfield. East Bengal recently lost to Singapore outfit Balestier Khalsa 1-2 and drew with Hong Kong champions Kitchee 1-1 in AFC Cup.Though the strikers of Red and Gold, especially Ranty Martins are in a habit of scoring. Dudu Omegbemi after a long spell are in a good shape had score an inspiring goal against Balestier Khalsa at Singapore in the AFC Cup.

On the contrary Sporting Goa looked to be a much improved team . The inclusion of Nigerian Striker Odafa Oneyka Okoli and the Syrian International midfielder Mahmoud Al Amna in the line up will add a new flavour for Sporting Goa. But, Sporting Goa will be without the services of goalkeeper Ravi Kumar, defender Sandesh Jhingan and striker Sumeet Passi who are away on International duty with the India U-23 team.
