BFC PRESS RELEASE :Bengaluru set for battle as Southern neighbours come calling

13.01.2017: It’s being billed as the ‘derby of the south’ among many other things but coach Albert Roca says building on a winning start is the only thing on Bengaluru FC’s mind as they take on League debutants and state neighbours Chennai City FC at the Kanteerava Stadium, in Bengaluru, on Saturday.

“Chennai City may be a game old but their squad comprises players who have competed in the I-League and they’re going to look to trouble us. This will be a tougher game than our first one. It’s important that we show the same desire as we did in our game against Lajong,” said the Spaniard while addressing the press on Friday.

The Blues put on a clinical display to dismantle Lajong 3-0 and looked solid in every position on the pitch. Since the win last week, Bengaluru FC have had additions in Honduran striker Roby Norales and India international Sandesh Jhingan. But Roca gave no clear indication on the kind of role the duo would play in the game on Saturday. “The new boys are getting used to the system and I’m not keen on rushing them. We’re going to see how this goes,” is all Roca had to offer.

It’s left to be seen whether Roca persists with young Daniel Lalhlimpuia in attack or chooses to start with either one of CK Vineeth or Norales. “We play again on Wednesday and while we're looking to consolidate our team, there could be minor changes in certain positions," he added.

While Bengaluru broke no sweat in their opener, Chennai played out a 0-0 draw with fellow League debutants Minerva Punjab FC last week. Captained by former Mohun Bagan and Mahindra United defender Dharmaraj Ravanan, Chennai have some experienced hands in Denson Devadas, Zakeer Mundampara and Karanjit Singh who Chennai will turn to as they look to give a good account of themselves against the champions.

The game also marks the return of former Bengaluru midfielder Darren Caldeira who came on as a second-half substitute last weekend for Chennai.

AIZAWL FC 1-0 MINERVA PUNJAB
MPFC PRESS RELEASE : Minerva Punjab FC go down narrowly in extra time to Aizawl FC

In what was said to be their first encounter against each other in the History of both the teams young Minerva Punjab FC went down narrowly fighting to I-League regulars Aizawl FC in a closely contested match played at the Rajiv Gandhi Football Stadium, Aizawl. The Warriors gaffer Surinder Singh made a couple of changes in the line up that drew away at Chennai bringing in former Mohun Bagan man Simranjeet Singh, Sporting Club de Goa midfielder Souvik Das and former Nepal International Palsang Lama in favour of Nuruddin, Germanpreet and Vinit Rai in the middle of the park. Anticipating a tough game due to the chilling weather Minervans left no stone unturned as they were focused in bagging all 3 points in Aizawl.

The men in blue went in hunt for the opener from the word go but an experienced Aizawl team played well to avert the danger off their shoulder, the Reds managed to make some good moves in the Minervans court but alert Minervan defenders did quite well to keep them at bay, custodian Ravi Kumar too was in top form as he saved quite a good efforts by Aizawl's Liberian attacker Alfred Jaryan and former Syrian International Mahmoud Amnah.

The scoreboard remained unchanged for quite sometime in the game untill 31th minute when Minerva's striker Manandeep Singh brought hopes for a lead in the game but his efforts was well collected by former Mumbai City FC custodian Albino Gomes, who also made some crucial saves to keep the home team in the Game denying the visitors their much need goal before the break. Aizawl's Jayesh Rane's powerful screemer at the brink of the half time hit the woodwork as both teams went for a break with the score board unchanged.

The second half started on a positive note for Minervans as Simranjeet Singh makes the first move for the warriors in the game but his efforts were denied by the opponents custodian, next couple of moves were made by the Aizawl attackers but a stringent Minerva Punjab FC's back four marshalled by Nigerian Loveday Enyinnaya did'nt allow the home team to take the lead. Highly rated Indian Junior Team sensation Uttam Rai too was brought in favour of Manandeep Singh to add more force to the attack.

A shot in the arm came in the 75th minute when Aizawl launched a counter attack and Minerva in-form custodian Ravi Kumar came charging to clear off but had a bad clash with Aizawl's Ivorian import Kamo Stephane Bayi leaving the latter inqured and surprisingly was also booked for a yellow card. former Sporting Club de Goa custodian Kamaljit Singh was then brought in to guard the frame, as he did well for quite sometime as the game took a rough turn in the last 10 minutes and Aizawl's Ashutosh Mehta's goal in the dying minute of the game for the red was the difference for both the teams, as the Reds bagged all 3 points with a narrow win against the debutants.
