BFC MEDIA: CK Vineeth scored the first hat-trick (45th, 57th and 65th) in the history of the club across all competitions as Bengaluru FC steamrolled past Mumbai FC 3-0 to claim top spot on the table in style at the Kanteerava Stadium, in Bengaluru, on Wednesday.

Last weekend’s super-sub Vineeth earned a place in the starting XI ahead of Daniel Lalhlimpuia while midfielder Cameron Watson, who missed the game against Chennai with a stomach bug, made the team in place of Mandar Rao Dessai. The other change was in the left-back position where Nishu Kumar started his first game of the season.

Bengaluru started with the same intensity as they did against Chennai, throwing numbers in attack. Nishu’s low cross after a fantastic run down the left was steered clear by the Mumbai defence before Vineeth had a big chance minutes later. Slipped in perfectly by skipper Sunil Chhetri, Vineeth chose to fire first-time with his left but skied the take instead.

But just when it looked like an encore of last weekend where the Blues returned to the dressing room with everything but a goal, Vineeth tapped home the lead in the first minute of added time. A livewire down the right for the hour that he was on the pitch, Udanta Singh put it through his marker’s legs in picking Watson. The Australian sent in a cross that beat everyone before Vineeth brought it down and tapped it past Laxmikant Kattimani to make it 1-0.

Refusing to take their foot of the pedal, Bengaluru started the second half with more purpose and were rewarded for the toil when Vineeth smashed home a perfect cross from Harmanjot Khabra to make it 2-0. But the wiry striker saved the best for the last with a finish that every striker would envy. Bringing down a fantastic ball from Khabra, Vineeth picked Kattimani’s far post as he hit the ball with perfection, becoming the first player to score a hat-trick for the club.

Sandesh Jhingan made his first appearance for the Blues, coming on for Khabra late in the second half. The defender almost contributed to Bengaluru's fourth as his cross led to a goal-mouth scramble, but Kattimani was able to clear his lines. Bengaluru next travel to Kolkata where they take on East Bengal in what will be a first away fixture of the season for Albert Roca’s side.

AIZAWL FC 2-1 SHILLONG LAJONG
SLFC PRESS RELEASE : Aizawl FC won the first leg of the North East Derby today in Aizawl by 2-1 against Shillong Lajong FC at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium. The away team, Shillong Lajong started the match brightly and were looking very dangerous in front of goal. They were on the attacking mode right from the start and kept on pressurising the Aizawl FC half.

In the 5th minute of the match, Lajong were given a penalty when the referee spotted Lalruatthara bringing down Redeem Tlang inside the box. Lajong's Brazilian striker, Fabio Pena stepped up to take the penalty but as luck would have it, Aizawl's goalkeeper, Albino Gomes saved the ball from entering the back of the net, denying Lajong the lead.

Shillong Lajong however, continued the game with great rhythm and momentum. There were many neat passes and they were moving in front, dominating Aizawl’s territory. In the 10th minute, Zodingliana made a good run to shoot from just outside the box but his shot went straight to the keeper Albino. In the 19th minute, the hosts Aizawl FC finally saw their first shot on target but Al Amna's volley from outside the box went straight to Lajong custodian, Vishal Kaith.

As the game wore on, Lajong planted another attack on Aizawl but Yuta’s shot from the centre of the field, went wide. Singto’s side kept on going forward making several good moves until the 32nd minute when they conceded the first goal. Aizawl FC who hardly had any clear cut chances on goal were on point the moment they received a good chance and wasted no time to convert it into the back of the net.

Lalruatthara gave the home side some joy and reasons to celebrate by scoring the goal in the 32nd minute. In the second half, Lajong came very close to level the score in the 48th minute when Isaac’s cross found Fabio who was inside the box but the latter's header went just narrowly wide off the right post.

In the 63rd minute, Aizawl FC doubled the lead when their Syrian playmaker, Almna delivered a good cross to Jayesh Rane whose shot was deflected past Chinglensana’s leg and easily sailed inside the goal. Aizawl FC played a much better second half and displayed good football all round. Lajong worked hard to get back in the game and were given a penalty in the 83rd minute when Japanese midfielder Yuta Kinowaki was brought down by Aizawl’s defender Kingsley. Yuta came forward to shoot from the spot and convert the penalty for Lajong to reduce the deficit.

As the game was heading to an end, Lajong were given the free kick after a foul was spotted by the referee outside the box but the subsequent free kick by Samuel Lalmuanpuia did not threaten the Goalkeeper. That was the last major action in the match and Lajong lost their third consecutive away game. They will now return home to play against Minerva Punjab FC on 21st January 2017 and are truly banking upon home support to turn their fate around and give a much better display in the coming I-League matches. Aizawl FC on the other hand has climbed up and is on seven points from three games.

DSK 2-1 CHENNAI CITY
17.01.2017 : DSK SHIBAJIANS 2-0 CHENNAI CITY FC (FT)
DSK : Kim Song 29', Juan Barraso (Pen 56')
MOM : Milan Singh - DSK

DSK : Soram, Nirmal, Sahsa, Gorumangi, Shane, Milan, M.Thanga, Quero, Kim Song, Jerry, Rohit.
CCFC : Sahinlal, Iche, Debabrata, Prasant, Charles, D. Ravanan, Abhishek Das, Dhanpal Ganesh, Malswamfela, Zakir.

SLFC PRESS RELEASE : DSK Shivajians opened their account in the Hero I-League 2016-17 with an emphatic 2-0 win over Chennai City FC at the Balewadi Stadium in Pune. Shivajians’ captain Juan Barraso was in fine touch tonight, assisting the first goal scored on 26 minutes by Kim Song Yong, and scoring the second from the 12-yard penalty spot in the 55th minute.

DSK Shivajians made three changes to the side which faced Kingfisher East Bengal on the weekend. Under-22 players Jerry Lalrinzuala and Rohit Kumar came into the team along with Ongnam Milan Singh. The visiting team made two notable changes, which saw Shahin Lal Meloli standing under the woodwork and Malsawmfela starting in the forward line.

DSK Shivajians settled in well as the match progressed, looking certain to score. Meanwhile, Chennai were on the backfoot for the first quarter, with little support for Charles De Souza up-front to create any real damage on the break.

DSK 2-1 CHENNAI CITY
The finest opportunity to take the lead came in the 26th minute when Juan Quero’s freekick from the edge of the Chennai City penalty area was parried away by an all-stretched Shahin Meloli. The goal eventually came at the stroke of the half-hour mark. Juan Quero’s free kick, long way out from the Chennai’s penalty, found an unmarked Kim Song Yong on 30 minutes, who headed the ball into the net, giving Shivajians the lead.

The first-half did not really have much to fathom up on, apart from the goal; as both sides seemed to talk too much time on the ball. The two sides headed into the halftime break with the same scoreline.

DSK Shivajians doubled their lead, 10 minutes into the second half from the penalty spot. Juan Quero Barraso, who looked particularly lively at the start of the second-half, found Kim Song Yong with a neat diagonal pass, dissecting the Chennai City FC defence. In his attempt to cut inside, Song was fouled by Clemente inside the box, leaving the referee with no other option but to flash the yellow card and award DSK Shivajians the penalty. Quero put the ball past Shahin Lal to give Shivajians a two-goal lead with half an hour to go.

As the match entered into the final 20 minutes both teams made a number of changes to impact the game; Chennai City brought in a few fresh pair of legs, while Shivajians gave new players a chance, having been 2-0 up. Eventually, the hosts bagged maximum points against Chennai City with a two-goal margin to jump to the sixth spot in the ongoing Hero I-League season.
