DSK Shivajians  confirm extension of Spaniard Juan Quero  13.08.2016 : DSK Press Release : DSK Shivajians Football Club confirm the extension of Spaniard Juan Quero’s contract for 2016-17. The winger, who was instrumental in the club’s debut I-League season, returns to the Pune-based squad for the season ahead.

The former Read Madrid youth player joined DSK Shivajians FC back in February 2016. His inclusion made a strong impact in the team’s performance, which led to the management In Quero’s first season in the Indian subcontinent, at DSK Shivajians FC, Quero started 10 matches, scored three goals apart from creating three more.

Quero’s brace against Mohun Bagan in an away match at the Barasat Stadium, Kolkata, which helped the club earn a 3-3 draw, was the highlight of his impressive performance in the DSK. Quero started his professional playing career in Spain with Santa Ana following his stint at Real Madrid youth team. He then moved to Alcorcon in the third division where he plied his trade till 2007.

In 2007, he moved to Numancia, where he helped the team to gain promotion to the La Liga. His debut came against Real Madrid in a 3-2 loss at the Bernabeu. In 2009, he moved to RayoVallecano, where he played for three years before moving to Dubai Club.

Rubio (37) is a highly-experienced midfielder who spent ten seasons at Spanish club Real Valladolid (2006-2016) during which he played close to 300 games and captained the side that kept shuffling between La Liga and Segunda Division. Gonzalez (29), meanwhile, is a defender who spent two seasons each with the B teams of Deportivo and Real Madrid before moving to German club Fortuna Dusseldorf where he spent three seasons – one in the Bundesliga and two in the second division. He last played for Amercian side Rayo OKC.

The duo complete Bengaluru’s set of four foreigners after the club announced it had signed Australian midfielder Cameron Watson on Saturday. Watson, Rubio and Gonzalez arrived in the city on Sunday and took part in a session with the team on Monday morning.

While Gonzalez has signed a contract that keeps him with the Blues till the end of the season, Rubio’s term lasts till the end of the year.

“I am happy to have signed for Bengaluru FC. We trained with the team today and everyone is very welcoming. The aim is to try and understand the systems as soon as possible and I would like to use my experience to help the team to success,” said Rubio who also has appearances for the Spanish national U-20 and U-21 sides.

The twenty-nine-year-old who spent five seasons with Australian A-League side Adelaide United before turning out for Newcastle Jets last season, joins the Blues on a deal that keeps him at Bengaluru till the end of the 2016-17 season.

Watson, who fulfils the Asian player criteria, becomes the second foreigner to sign for Bengaluru after defender Johnson penned a two-year extension at the end of last season.

The Australian, whose stints include a season with the youth and reserve teams of Portuguese giants FC Porto, said he was delighted with his move to Bengaluru. “I’ve spoken to a few people and heard good things about the League. I’ve even had a word with former Bengaluru player Sean Rooney who had a lot of nice things to say about the club and I’m really looking forward to joining the team as soon as possible. I’ve been training with a local club here and keeping as fit as possible. There’s a big AFC Cup game coming up and the sooner I get there, the better,” said Watson.

Cameron hails from Melbourne and has also had appearances for the U-17 and U-20 sides of the Australian national team. Watson comes with oodles of experience having made more than 200 appearances in the A-League and has also played in the AFC Champions League with Adelaide in 2012.

A midfielder with an impressive work-rate and one who seamlessly switches between helping out in defence and attack, coach Albert Roca felt that Watson’s addition would be vital to the Blues’ plans for the season. “Cameron is a good player in a position that’s very important to the team. He has a good background playing in Australia which I think is an impressive League in terms of standard and his presence would help us grow,” said the Spaniard.

Barry joins Dave Rogers’ backroom staff, which will oversee the first team for all forthcoming tournaments and the I-League. DSK Shivajians Appoint Barry Knowles as Assistant Manager The Englishman brings with him a wealth of coaching experience. His last job was at Pune-based Bharat FC, as Technical Director and assisted the club’s First Team in their maiden season in the I-League (2014-15).

Barry’s vast experience as a youth development coach spans across a host of English clubs which include Everton FC, Wigan Athletic, and Blackpool FC. He joined Wigan Athletic after two years of youth development at Everton FC. In 2000, he then was appointed as the Head of Youth Development at Blackpool FC where he re-structured the club’s youth policy.

Following his successful stint at Blackpool FC, the Englishman was recruited by The Football Association (The FA) as their Talent Identification Head, where he also oversaw the development of players. Following his stint at the FA, Barry worked as a player and team profiler for Sheffield Wednesday, a Football League Championship club. The Englishman then moved to the Indian sub continent and joined Bharat FC.
