Roman Abramovich spent £29,000 on lunch ??..

04.11.2009 :Roman Abramovich has denied spending nearly £29,000 on a lavish lunch for himself and five friends in New York. The billionaire Chelsea Football Club owner was alleged to have racked up the impressive bill at Nello's Italian restaurant by drinking a selection of the finest champagnes and wines and dining on truffles and veal.

Restaurant owner Nello Balan made the bill public, commenting on how Mr Abramovich was a man after "excellence and perfection".And a delighted waiter told how staff high-fived each other in the kitchen at their £4,468 tip. However, although he admits to dining there on Friday with his pregnant girlfriend Dasha Zhukova, his son Arkady and three business associates, he denies he spent so much.

A spokesman said: "That bill does not belong to them. They spent only a fraction of that amount. Maybe it is someone else’s bill."Mr Ballan claims that the group purchased Chateau Petrus wine, three bottles of La Tache Romanee Conti pinot noir and two magnums of Cristal rosé champagne – all at $5,000 (£3,049) a bottle, meaning they spent more than £21,000 on wine alone .A measure of Tawny port and Johnnie Walker Blue Label whisky added another £258 to the alcohol bill.

Mr Abramovich, 47, started his meal with white truffle carpaccio at £60, followed by veal Milanese and a side order of truffle tagliolini.A waiter said: "Roman’s son had seafood pasta and the other friends were very relaxed and shared dishes of prosciutto, calamari and pasta. They ordered the most expensive wine and champagne on the menu."Roman had a glass of champagne and a couple of glasses of red wine. The men ordered 40-year-old port to end their meal but they just had a sip and left the rest. What they didn’t drink, they gave away at the end of their meal to other diners. It was amazing.

"There was a couple at the next table who ended up being given a half-finished bottle of Petrus. They must have thought they had won the lottery."

Finally Victory Comes to East Bengal

02.11.2009 ::Debashis Majumder :At last the East Bengal fans got something to cheer up. Finally the most awaited win came to East Bengal in their away encounter against Viva Kerala. In Kozhikode in front of a full house stadium East Bengal registered their first victory of this edition of I-League with the help of an early goal scored by Rahim Nabi. This victory finally led the team to live the ground as the winning side for the first time in I-League, 2009.

From the very beginning East Bengal kept their pressure on the Viva defence. The Viva goalkeeper Shahinlal made some early saves to deny the East Bengal goal attempts. Ultimately the awaited moment came in the 11th minute when Rahim Nabi hold the ball possession and started a fantastic solo run through which he beat two Viva defenders and took a absolute cracker to the Viva goal which entered into the net to took East Bengal into the lead.

After getting one goal down the Viva Kerala players did not gave up their hopes but they started to build organized attacks but were denied by the well formed East Bengal defence. The rest of the first half went on with counter and encountering football from both the sides but the visitors surely played the more dominant part than the home team.

In the second half Viva Kerala started with some early attacks but East Bengal defence played a hard role to build up stiff resistance against the Viva attacks. Here Okpara played a very crucial role. He not only strengthens the East Bengal defence but as well as also played a pivotal role to organize the East Bengal midfield. Therefore he was awarded with the Man of the Match. In the 49th minute Senyo came close to score the equalizer but East Bengal Keeper Avijit made a confident save on that occasion.

In rest of the time both the teams earned several chances but could not capitalized them in scores. In the 88th minute from a cross of Shirajuddin Senyo hit into the East Bengal net but referee called an off-side and the goal was cancelled. This decision proves a very vital one in end of the day. Though towards the end Viva Kerala made certain serious attempts but East Bengal successfully protect the lead till the final whistle was blown.

This crucial victory of East Bengal will definitely give them new encouragement for rest of the tournament. Ultimately the most awaited win comes to East Bengal which not only gives them breathing space in the i-League table but also provides a ray of hope for the East Bengal fans that their team can fight back in the league.

Chirag United Keeps their Unbeaten run Alive.

02.11.2009 ::Debashis Majumder :Chirag United settled a 1-1 draw with Sporting Club de Goa in an away encounter. With this draw Chirag still maintains their unbeaten status in this edition of i-League. In fact among the Kolkata teams Chirag is still the only unbeaten one. Today Chirag got a golden opportunity to get to top position of league table because Sporting Club de Goa came to the field without their star player Junior. But the poor finishing of the Chirag strikers ended the day with a draw.

In the first half both the teams got their own chances but failed to convert them in goals. After the goalless first half both the teams became eager for goal in second half. Chirag kept the control of the game by attacking more in numbers. The visitors had to wait long to open the scoreline. Chirag’s repeated attack in Sporting penalty area finally earned them a penalty in 81st minute when Sporting's Samananda Singh brought down Edmilson in Penalty Box and refereee Arumughan Rowan awarded penalty in favour of Chirag. Edmilson Marquez made no mistake to score the leading goal (1 - 0). But the lead did not last long. In fact in the very next minute Chirag found them in the receiving end when Amos strikes back for Sporting Club de Goa off nice cross from todays Man of the match Joseph pereira (1 - 1 ).

With this draw Chirag United remains in the second position of the league table just behind Dempo. Though both Dempo and Chirag earned 12 points in similar number (6) of matches but the goal difference put the Goan team on top. Whereas for Sporting Club de Goa this draw only brought second i-League point for the team but the team still remains in the bottom position of the league table.

1-2 Upset for Mohun Bagan in Home against Mumbai F. C.

02.11.2009 ::Debashis Majumder : Mumbai F.C interrupted Mohun Bagan’s winning run by giving them a 1-2 defeat at the Vidyasagar Krirangan, Barasat. In the previous edition of the i-League Mohun Bagan also faced a 1-2 defeat against Mumbai F. C. in the same ground. This year Mumbai F. C. repeated the same scoreline to register their first victory in this edition of i-League. The boys of Khalid Jamil successfully played a very tactical game to clinch the victory from their mighty opponent.

Before the start of the game an unexpected accident of Bagan keeper Sangram Mukherjee in the bathroom of Mohun Bagan dressing room of Barasat stadium caused a serious damage to Qarim Bencharifa’s strategy. Four stitches are made on Sangram’s right foot and in the match he was replaced by Shilton Paul who today played like a nightmare. After 3 continuous wins the Bagan supporters came to Barasat today in expectation of another win.

But overconfidence boys of Qarim Bencharifa started the match in such a casual way that an opening minute defensive blunder allowed Mumbai skipper Abhishek Yadav to take a free header in Bagan box which find the opening goal of the match for the visitors. After getting one goal down Mohun Bagan tried to consolidate their midfield and started attacking in more numbers.

But the intelligent defensive moves of Mumbai denied Bagan strikers from scoring the equalizer. Anas; the young defender of Mumbai played a significant role to turn Chiddi into complete off colour. Anas along with Bernard and Evans built an unbreakable defence wall in front of the Bagan attacks. The disaster came for Mohun Bagan in the 41st minute when a horrible misunderstanding between Shilton and Sagram Mandi created a miserable error from which Basiru Mohammed Abbas scored the second goal for Mumbai F. C.

In the second half Isfaq Ahmed was replaced by Branco Cardoso whose entrance brought more fierceness in Bagan attacks. Ultimately in the 60th minute of the match from an effective cross of Branco from right flank, Snehashis reduced the margin by scoring a goal back. The rest of the time the home team continue their pressure on the visitors but could not find any other goal.

Mumbai keeper Nidhinlal came out as the savier for his team in several critical moments and was rewarded as the Man of the Match . Bagan also remained unlucky when Chiddi’s shot was denied by the post and Marcos and substitute Kulothungan made close misses towards the closing moment. Finally the scorecard remains 1-2 in favour of Khaleed Jamil's Mumbai F.C. to give Mohun Bagan a vital upset in home.

Mohun Bagan:Shilton, Surkumar, Deepak, Mandi (Tomba), Mohanraj, James, Manish, Marcos, Snehashis (Kulothungan), Isfaq (Branco), Chiddi.

Mumbai F. C.:Nidhinlal, Anas, Evans, Bernerd, Basiru (Alex), Noel, Abhishek, Subhash (Nishat Mehra), Daren, Kamaljeet, Prem Kumar.

Dudu praises the recent performances of Chidi...

02.11.2009 :Could you remember Dudu-Chidi duo when they played in Sporting Goa and scoring goal after goals against every weighty defenders of Indian National football League Teams? It was fact that riding on Dudu-Chidi magic,Sporting Clube de Goa then made a dream run in season after season.

Dudu Omagbemi went to poland in the starting of 2007-2008 season and from there he is now playing in Hungarian Premier Division team DVSC. Chidi is currently playing Three Times I-League winner Mohun Bagan and scored 5 goals with a Hattrick against arch rival East Bengal and is trying to be the top scorer like his School friend another Nigerian Goal Machine Odafa Okolie of Churchill Brothers who was the top scorer for 3 times in I-League.

Kolkatafootball.com had the unique privilege to have a conversation with Dudu Ogambeni who had a couple of seasons back played for Sporting Goa .He had Edeh Chiddi as his co-striker and the two together gave a harrowing time to the opponent defense.Though due to injury in recent past Dudu had to sit in side lines in recent games including UEFA Champions League qualifying Round of his team DVSC of Hungary..

The abstract of the conversation with Dudu

KFC :How well and fit are you now? What is the injury condition? Are you now fit enough to play competitive football? You did not play in champions league because of that injury? How is the recovery process?

DUDU : Yes, I am fit now and am playing for my team again.

KFC :Playing? That is amazing and it means you have recovered fully from the leg injury.
