"To get any of the First Three places is our Target in I-League " Nabab Bhattacharyya

Siddhartha Bhattacharyya, popularly known Nabab , one of the young and energetic Directors of I-League Team from Kolkata, Chirag United FC. On the eve of their 2nd leg opening match against city rival Mohun Bagan tomorrow at YBK, he shares his feelings with our Volunteer correspondent Debashis Majumder exclusively for KFC fans.

KFC: Chirag United is now at the second place in the current I-League table. Do you think that Chirag United can continue this success in the second leg of I-League?

Nabab: Yes, of course. If You see 'I' League table, you find at least six teams fighting for the championship & the difference between them is very little. We have lost some crucial points, otherwise we could have made it to the first position after the first leg. So, there is no reason that we can not make it this year.

KFC: How far the win of E.K. Nayanar Gold Cup in Kerala will inspire your team for the second leg of the I-League?

Nabab: See, a trophy is a trophy always. Once you beat other I league teams & win a trophy without having your key players, its always moral boosting. It will surely inspire the boys.

KFC: Edmilson and Joshimar both are now in brilliant form. How their good form will cause more benefit for your team?

Nabab: Its not only EDMILSON & JOSIMAR, all our players are getting fitter everyday. Thanks to our Brazilian Physio Mr. Garcia, our team is much more fit in this second session. So all the player’s current form will make a healthy competition and of course a better result.

KFC: Do you think that this one month gap in the I-League can make any effect to the winning run of Chirag United? Did it affected the concentration of the players? What is your opinion in this regard?

Nabab: See this break was total unnecessary. It did not help us. Though we played one tournament in this gap. We have been talking to our boys, asked them to start from ZERO. Hope they will carry the same rhythm.

KFC: What is your expectation about the final standing of Chirag United in this year's I-League?

Nabab:(By Laughing)..obviously target as a Champion or runners-up and be happy if we finish third, but not fourth.

KFC: New teams like Shillong Lajong or Pune F.C. performed fantastically. Do you think that the success of such teams can play vital role in motivating the game of football even in the remote corners of the country?

Nabab: It depends, let us (Including them) do it consecutive 4-5 years, then something will surely happen. If you see Sporting De Goa, Last year they were fighting the Championship like us, but check their performance this year.. The team is not much changed, still…. So we need to have a consistency first, then the motivation & development will automatically follow.

KFC: Generally the state which has good competitive local league the teams of that state can deliver better performance in the I-League because they can gather good experience from their local league. What is your opinion in this matter?

Nabab: See in “I” league the best performers are the foreign players. They are professionals. I don’t think they need to gather experience from Local League. Local League should be for upcoming Indian boys, the “I” league should put their reserve bench & U- 20 players. By playing this league they will certainly be benefited. It will also help to grow talents. Professionals should have limited local league matches.

KFC: In one hand the teams of Goa and Mumbai are playing the I-Leaqgue after the completion of their local leagues and are also taking special preparation for the I-League only and on the other hand the teams of Kolkata playing both the I-League and IFA league together. What do you think that how far the situation can affect the good performance of the Kolkata teams?

Nabab: It is very tiring. Specially in Kolkata, if you are not champion you are nothing. So for getting best results you have to put your best team, and you find difficulties while fielding your best team in the “I” league just because of injury & tiredness. If you have a solid reserve bench, you might find a bit relaxed. But still it’s uncomfortable….

KFC: Recently AFC suggested to the AIFF not to allow the I-League teams to play in the local leagues. Are you support this argument?

Nabab: In Kolkata, looks like impossible. There can’t be any top league without Mohun Bagan, East Bengal, Mohameddan in Kolkata. I can’t accept this. Smaller teams playing against these teams & making good results, can show their sponsors & ask for better money next season. Many local talents gets proper mileage with a better performance against these teams. So we have to find some way out, before we come to any conclusions.

KFC: Chirag is currently at the second position both in the I-League and the Calcutta Football League but still there is not a single player of Chirag have been selected in the national team. Do you ever think about this? Do you think that in future any player of your team can be selected in the national team?

Nabab: Its really demoralizing. For the last couple of years, there is not many new faces in the National team. The way we performed in the League, some of our players were really due for the National Call up. When we also see that there is some players who are even not playing in “I” League, not even in the reserve bench, are still in the National Team. Even in the U-23 team, no player from our team was even called. That’s really ridiculous. I have got no answers about that. Only I can say there should be more transparency in the selection procedure.

KFC: According to AFC Club license each and every clubs of the I-League must think about to increase the number of fan followers. The other two teams of Kolkata already started their process to increase the fan base. What is Chirag doing in this regard?

Nabab: First of all we have some definite plans over this. Chirag also playing a big role as it also spreads their brand image. With a consistency of good results & also looking at the younger generation we have already started the process. Let see how far we make it a successful project.

Nothing is going right now for the Red and Golds.

Today in Yuva Bharati Krirangan East Bengal started the match with well determination and the players of the home team dominated the first half. But immediately after the goal Bhaichung entered into an unnecessary fight with Subrata Paul and b the players of both the teams joined to this quarrel.

Down to ten men the home team tried hard for another equalizer but the one man advantage of Pune F.C. proved vital at the end of the day as the visitors took 3 vital points from the match and for the team of Phillip de Rider another disappointment came at home.
