MUPC u-15 Ghana Winner : Right to dream academy

THE RIGHT TO DREAM ACADEMY became Premier Cup Champions of Ghana for the third year in succession after beating Sporting Club Accra 1 - 0 today, when a penalty decision in extra time brought the first tournament at their new facility in Akosombo to an enthralling climax.

The two teams were evenly matched throughout the final match and could not be separated in normal time. Although there were chances and flashes of brilliance on both sides, it looked increasingly likely that the tournament would have to be decided on penalty kicks when a run for goal just minutes from the final whistle resulted in a clumsy tackle and the inevitable penalty decision. Right to Dream’s Osei walked up to the spot with calm assurance before putting the ball in the net - and the result beyond doubt.

The Man of the Match award to Emmanuel Stephens from Sporting Club Accra was some consolation for the team who had started the day with high hopes of representing Ghana at the Africa Premier Cup Qualification Tournament to be held at Nike European HQ in the Netherlands in May.

As the tournament got underway, an emphatic 4 - 0 victory over Strong Tower left Sporting in the driving seat and the home side in need of a convincing win over Jaupong All-Stars. A confident performance from Right to Dream delivered a comfortable 2 - 0 result and set up an exciting finale between the local rivals.

Coach Jonathan McKinstry admitted: “Defensively Jaupong caused us no problems, our performance was sound and positional play and team communication was good. We did miss some chances though and it is important that the team raise their game against Sporting. We’ve played them several times already and the games are always close. The boys need to make a good start and stay calm under pressure and we’ll get the right result.”

The boys from Right to Dream were ecstatic after their victory. “Although last year’s team went on to finish in third place at the MUPC World Finals this is a much younger team, and we still have a way to go,” McKinstry concluded. “ However, the boys have done well and everyone did what was expected of them. Now we’ll get back to training and concentrate on improving one or two things before the trip to Holland.”

The victory for Right to Dream gives them a place at the Africa Premier Cup Qualification Tournament, alongside Egypt's ENPPI, Daga Young Stars FC from Cameroon and Premier Cup Champions from Algeria (tbc), whose qualifying tournament takes place later this month.

The Africa Champions will then take one of the final twenty places available at the World Finals of the Manchester United Premier Cup to be held in Manchester in August.

Around 9,500 teams started on the journey to find the best under-15 team in the world - the countdown continues..

IPL STYLE FOOTBALL IS NOT IMPOSSIBLE IN INDIA

A number of Indians who have been linked with “takeovers” of various English Premier League clubs are now seriously thinking of organizing a tournament on Indian soil akin to the IPL cricket tournament. A plan is underway to organize a multi-million pound event on the lines of IPL cricket.

Three well-known football agents and dealmakers, Pini Zahavi, Chris Nathaniel and Kia Joorabachian have been entrusted with the task of designing and launching a two-month football competition in India within a time span of three years. The plan is to entice the top players of the world into this competition and make it as successful as the Major League Soccer in the USA.

Pini Zahavi has been linked to the recent £ 1 billion take-over bid offer for Manchester United. The Glazer family, the present American owners have of course rejected the offer. Grapevine has it that Zahavi is working as a front either for a Chinese or a Middle East consortium. Zahavi has excellent relationships with Sir Alex Ferguson and Chelsea boss Roman Abramovich.

Chris Nathaniel, started his career in the music industry but now represents the likes of Rio Ferdinand, John Terry and Usain Bolt. His involvement with his superstar clients leads him into many projects. In the strictest sense he is not a football agent himself but rather the boss of his football agency, NVA Management. This allows him the time to work on other projects as well.

Kiavash "Kia" Joorabchian is an Iranian businessman of Armenian origin. His businessman father migrated to Great Britain following the fall of the Shah regime. Joorabchian is understood to have become a multi-millionaire from the sale of his equity company, American Capital. He founded Media Sports Investments in 2004, which he used to take over Brazilian football club Corinthians, in a 10 year deal. After he bought the club, he moved to Brazil and changed the way business was run, as the club had increased its revenue to 500% in the first year.

Joorabchian had been linked with a bid for football club West Ham United in August 2006. His company, MSI, was behind the transfer of Carlos Tévez and Javier Mascherano to West Ham United in August 2006. He was a transfer adviser at West Ham United till 2009.

Therefore, the effort by the overseas Indians to do something positive and rejuvenate Indian football is a welcome sign in the days ahead..
