Mahindra United go down against Sporting Clube de Goa in I-League .

Sporting Goa   3 - 2   Mahindra United ( Goa - FT )

Mahindra United : Sushil Singh Pen-22', Md. Rafi 43'
Sporting Goa : Nathanial Amos 38', Elija Jr. 74', Adil Khan 82'
Man of the Match : Adil Khan (SCG)

Placed second in the league table, Mahindra United’s concluding away fixture in the I-League ended on a disappointing note as they suffered their first reversal at this venue while going down by a 3-2 margin against relegation-threatened Sporting Clube de Goa at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Margao here on Tuesday.

With their title chances already been dented due to their recent run of indifferent results, Mahindra United, determined to at least end their campaign strongly received a setback in that quest after finding themselves on the wrong side of the scoreline in this 24th round clash, where they led twice but were unable to hold onto their advantage.

Performing extremely well in the second phase of the league reflected in their results achieved, Sporting Clube de Goa, worked extremely hard and showed determination as they twice came from behind to earn the precious three points in their battle to avoid the relegation.

En route to recording their fifth win of the league, all of which have come in the second leg, Sporting, in a must-win situation responded superbly against their fancied rivals while they accumulated the maximum returns through the efforts of substitute Nathaniel Amos, Junior Obagbemiro and Adil Khan (man-of-the-match), who netted the winner late in the game.

Eyeing to get their campaign back on track and strengthen their chances of gaining the second position, Mahindra United who enjoyed a two one lead at half-time, had both their men up front on target with Sushil Kumar Singh and Mohammed Rafi getting their name on the score sheet.

Having done well extremely well for a major part of the campaign, especially in their away matches earlier, Mahindra United (38 points) were unlucky not to find the equalizer in the injury time when a superb strike by Rafi found the woodwork.

Finding themselves trailing twice in the match, Sporting (24 points) unfazed by the situation responded well each time while making better use of the wider areas and were duly rewarded for their efforts while restoring parity in the 36th minute through Amos after Sushil Kumar Singh had given visitors the lead from a penalty mid-way through the first half.

Mahindra United, who could have kept the ball much better, restored their one goal advantage late in the first half when Rafi latching onto a long ball from captain K. Ajayan beat the off-side trap to find the mark.

The game after change of ends saw Sporting strive hard in search of the equalizer as they had the better of the exchanges and created clear-cut chances before putting the match on level terms through Junior off a Michael Tayo provision in the 75th minute of play.

For Sporting, who had shared points with East Bengal in their last match, centre-back Adil Khan got the winner in the 81st minute as he latched onto the rebound after rival custodian Subhashish Roy Chowdhury only managed to partly stop a low free-kick taken by Junior.

Preview of Sporting Goa vs Mahindra United (I-League) .

Losing significant ground to their rivals at a critical time in the title race, Mahindra United in their quest to now finish their campaign strongly are determined to get back to winnings ways when they meet bottom placed Sporting Clube de Goa in their concluding away fixture of the I-League to be played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Margao here on Tuesday.

One of the country’s leading clubs, Mahindra United, following a sequence of disappointing results, are determined to bring their campaign back on track by coming up with convincing performances in the remaining three matches to provide themselves an opportunity to grab the second position.

The Mumbai champions who witnessed a dip in form, suffered another major blow to their title chances when they shared points with promoted side Pune FC in their last match, where they desperately needed the three points to keep their slim title hopes alive.

Their problems were further compounded when league leaders Dempo recorded an impressive away win over Mohun Bagan to emerge as the clear favorites for the title as apart from having a sizeable nine point lead over second place Mahindra, also enjoy a superior goal difference.

Having done extremely well for a major part of the campaign, Mahindra United found themselves well positioned ahead of Dempo at one stage but thereafter lost their grip on the title race and gradually drifted away, allowing their closest title rivals to march ahead and enjoy a clear upper hand at the business end of the league.

The visitors will be once again missing the services of Kali Alaudeen as the centre-back has been ruled out of action for few months due to a knee injury while a double booking has also forced the influential Serbian midfielder Svetozar Mijin to miss this 24th round encounter.

Mahindra United's last win came in round 19 against Dempo, and are currently on 38 points but need to win their remaining three matches, the last two of which will be played at home if they harbour any realistic chance of clinching the second spot. Playing out a 1-1 draw with East Bengal at Kolkata in their last match, Sporting who are fighting to save relegation despite performing extremely well in the second leg have 21 points.

Interview of Wali Mohammed regarding Mahindta United .

Mr Wali Mohammed - Asst. General Secretary of WIFA : [ Western India Football Association], was terribly busy with the damage control of Mahindra Quitting & opening ceremony of Andheri Football Academy, where Mr. Subrata Dutta - the AIFF & IFA Vice - President was also present. Still he managed to take out few moments from his busy schedule for an exclusive interview for kolkatafootball.com fans. Our Pune correspondent Suddhosil Ghosh got some exclusive moments & thoughts from him.

KFC : Very Good evening Sir. We feel very sad with the Mahindra Decision. what's your view over the matter?

WALI MOHAMMED : Good Evening. Yes, its a real hard decision. For the last 3 days since the decision, we have been trying to find out ways to save Maharashtra football as well as Indian Football from the bad impact of the decision.

KFC : What do you feel - why such extreme decision has been taken?

WALI MOHAMMED :We have no clue. Performance wise they were doing brilliant. They became champion in I-League. They were placed in top 5 last year, this year they are placed second.

If you go for monetory decision, then also it should not be any problem. They got a terrific facility with Income Tax, thats why they renamed as Mahindra United from Mahindra & Mahindra to bring all Mahindra business under tax conrol. They have to pay more for the football budget in the Income Tax. So, we don't really have any clue.

KFC : But they have told they will work from grass root level to serve Indian Football?

WALI MOHAMMED :I don't think so. Its for just for the sake of a statement. They have a very good team in Hockey also where star player like Dhanaraj Pillay has played. They stopped the Hockey team with the same excuse. But, tell me, what grass root work they have done in Hockey till now?

If they have to do seriously that work, they can do it step by this step. Suppose they have the budget of 10 croe. So first year they can make it 7 & rest ammount may go for the academy, next year it should be 5-5 & in the third year they can stop the team. So, we could have had enough time to control the impact .

And truely speaking without Tata none in India has worked from grass root level. So, I am really scared with the decision made by Mahindra United.

KFC : After this decision what will be the real impact in Indian football?

WALI MOHAMMED : Now a days its really hard to bring sponsors in Football. Till we were talking with some smaller business houses. But they are pointing out to this Mahindra decision. So, its really tough to recover from this situation.

KFC : Before this, Mafatlal, Tata Football Club has withdrawn their teams, now its Mahindra. So do you feel is there something from the WIFA which making this kind of decision?

WALI MOHAMMED : We, the WIFA always kept good relation with these office clubs. For an example, I can say this year Mahindra has not played a single match in local league. Still we have promoted them. What can we do more to promote these clubs? I have no idea whats the thought of these office clubs.

KFC : Do you think the explosure these corporate house demands after the investment in Football, they are not getting actually like cricket - that's why they are stepping back?

WALI MOHAMMED : As a responsible person I can't talk about other sports. But I can say the definitely that we are continuously doing hard work to glorify Maharashtra & Indian Football. We are football lovers - always worked for football fans. We will continue to work on these things. we have nothing to worry about other sports. Football has its own fans & we will continue work for them only.

KFC : What about the WIFA approach to bring back Mahindra in Football or what will be the next step to fill up the vaccuam if Mahindra stick to their decision of quitting?

WALI MOHAMMED : We are continuously approaching the Mahindra Management. But no good response from their side. We have a meeting on 9th regarding this. After that we can comment over this.

KFC : What about the Mahindra Junior team?

WALI MOHAMMED : We always welcome football spirit. So we definitely expect to watch them performing in the field in any form of Football. But, I have no clue they really wants to come up with their Junior team.

KFC : Tell me something about the Andheri Football Academy - you have been busy the whole day with the organization?

WALI MOHAMMED : We always tried our level best to bring up Indian talents from Maharashtra. Its another effort in that dedicated spirit. Hope they will have a very good journey ahead.

KFC : Thanks a lot sir, for your precious time for our readers.

WALI MOHAMMED : It was great pleausre from my side too. I will tell to the fans that we are giving our dedicated effort for you only. So, don't lose up hopes with this kind of decision. There are certain Ups & Downs in the journey, but its you who kept always us in track. So, in future we will also continue work for you & walk ahead along with you.

Mahidra United : A harsh decision for Indian Football.

Mahindra United - one of the football giants of India has taken a sudden decision to take off their team from next season, which will definitely affect the flow in Indian football. Regarding this incident our Pune corrospondent talked with Mr. SABBIR AHMED (Co-Ordinator WIFA) exclusively for our readers.

Very demoralised & hurt from heart with this decision Mr.Ahmed first time spoke to media frankly to acknowledge what Indian Football going to lose after Mahindra's decision.

KFC : Good morning sir. Its very sad time for Indian Football as Mahindra has taken decision to withdraw team from next season.

SABBIR: Definitely its a real harsh decision for Indian Football. Mohunbagan, Eastbengal, Mohameddan is running their teams since or over 100 years. Their football spirit have great contribution to the freedom fight of India. But excluding them very few teams in India has great contribution to Indian football with their long running glory, Mahindra & Mahindra, who are renamed as Mahindra United since last five years is one of them.

After hearing this decision I can't keep my eyes dry as a devoted football lover. We have pride & glory over Mahindra as they are the icon club to us in Mumbai Football Association. Many young players are enthusiastic to play in Mahindra, Karnataka Vice-captain to name a few as example. Many Kolkata based players also dreamed to play in this club as they have one of the greatest infrustructure in India. So all total, you can say its a real Black Day & Decision in Indian Football.

KFC: Why all of a sudden this kind of decision has been taken?

SABBIR: Its really unfortunate, but we are not getting any clue about this. Mahindra was placed fifth in last year I-League, but they are well placed second in the current league. So, it can't be perfomance wise. May be the management cause arise here. As a middle class Indian & football lover you will never take this kind of decision. Take as example the Kolkata Giants. They are getting sponsors now a days, but the base was fans & membership funds for a long time.

They have also seen bad times & loss, but they have never brought in mind to withdraw team as Football is religion to them. But you are strict to management & a very less passion to football, then only this kind of decision you can make.

KFC: So, what is the over all impact to Indian Football after Mahindra quits?

SABBIR: All Football loving fans are demoralised here very much. The higher officials are talking only regarding this now a days. Cause, its a broken dream for many youngstars in Indian Football. MFA has only 3 teams here in Mumbai. Among them Mahindra will be there no more. MFC & Air India is not in good position in the present league.

If suppose one of them, being relegated this season then where would the charm of Couparage stand ! We have another Maharashtra based team, that is Pune FC who are doing fantastic, but the matches will be held in Pune only. So Mumbai football locally & nationally will be affected very badly.

In Mumbai we have leagues from under-8. But all the dreams rounded centering Mahindra. That glory ends now. Which will definitely leave a very bad impression on Indian Football.

KFC: As a corporate house Mahindra was running team for a long period. After this incident what about the corporate house's mentality?

SABBIR: A very good & important point has been raised here. Its very tough to get sponsors in Indian Football. Now, suppose if Mr. Malya starts to think negatively it will affect Kolkata football. Pune FC is also run by corporate house. So if the virus of Mahindra impact attacks them also, it will be a desert situation for Indian Football. So, over all Indian Football may get into a negative direction. Anyway, we are also looking forward to damage control.

KFC: Mahindra junior team has won the league & they are now eligible to play the national league. What will be with them?

SABBIR: Mahindra United has informed that the team will be there but no competitive match will be played by them. They are concentrating in academy now from where they will bring up new tallents. But I personally have doubt - how fruitful it will be. This is as if you are cutting the top of a tree & only watering the tree's root. But we always remain positive & will keep hoping for the best.

KFC: Have you approached Mahindra Management to withdraw the decision?

SABBIR: The higher officials are continuously taking the initiative, but the Mahindra management has lost focus in competitive football, so its really hard to bring them back in Indian Competitive Football.

KFC: A big place becomes vacant in Mumbai as well in Indian Football. What are the initiatives taken to fill it up?

SABBIR: We have some definite planning over it. But in this moment we can't reveal it. But to save the charm of Mumbai Football we must have to do something special now on.

KFC: Thanks you so much sir for your this precious time.

SABBIR: You are most welcome. With terrible health condition we have tried to do a lot in couparage Stadium only for fans. I hope, after this hurting decision, the fans will be with us & We will definitelty do some Phoneix job to keep alive Mumbai Football Charm. The Couparage will be full house again with its pride & glory.

Churchill defender Gouramangi Singh set for Melbourne trial .

It was learnt that Indian international stopper back Gouramangi Singh could well be set to become the 4th Indian player in history to ply his trade abroad.

His trial with A-League club Melbourne Heart was today confirmed by the player's Melbourne based Manager Mr Lyndon Miranda who said, "It is with great pleasure that I would like to confirm to Indian football fans across the globe that Melbourne Heart FC, a Melbourne based A-League club are keen on inviting Gouramangi Singh for a 2 week trial from the 7th of June till the 19th of June 2010 and the same has been duly accepted by Gouramangi Singh.

"If he makes it through the trial, Gouramangi would go on to be the first Indian to ply his trade on Australian soil. I am extremely excited about this prospect. I have been involved in Indian soccer for the last 6 years now at various levels, and it leaves me extremely delighted to be able to play a part in this deal."

When contacted Gouramangi Singh was ecstatic to say the least.

"I would first like to thank God for giving me this great opportunity to showcase my skills abroad. Its every players dream to ply his trade at a higher level, and mine is no different. But it's not always that one gets fortunate enough to land a trial and I intend to grab this opportunity and prove myself to the club. I would like to thank all my fans across the country that have supported me over the years and I hope I repay their faith in me by excelling at the trials," he said.

"The invitation to try out for the club was a bolt from the blue and least expected, I had to pinch myself really hard to make sure I wasn't dreaming. I now look forward to impressing the club coach. I am quite thrilled about the prospect of playing alongside Simon Colosimo and John Aloisi, both Australian Internationals who are part of the team. I would also like to thank the national team coach Bob Houghton for instilling in me the self belief that I can achieve it all and without his pivotal role in my career, none of this would have been possible."

When contacted India's coach Bob Houghton expressed his delight at the possibility of an A-League affair for Gouramangi.

"This is certainly great news for Indian football and it's great to see foreign clubs interested in Indian players. Gouramangi has certainly deserved this trial as he has worked very hard over the last few years and is now one of the central players in the team. His absence will certainly be missed for the Asian Cup camp, but I would like to wish him all the best for his upcoming trial."

Melbourne Heart FC is an Australian professional football club based in Melbourne, Victoria. The club was formed in 2008, and was awarded an A-League license in 2009 to compete in the 2010-2011 season of the A-League.

Making its Hyundai A-League debut later this year, Melbourne Heart FC has appointed former Dutch international John van‘t Schip as Head Coach who will be aptly assisted by ex-Manchester United and Denmark International winger Jesper Olsen and ex-Socceroo striker Ante Milicic.
