GFA PRESS RELEASE : Salgaocar sports club down by a goal registered a 4-1 win over Goa Velha sports club, in the GFA's Charity match, played at Duler grounds, here on Sunday. The encounter witnessed by a sizeable Sunday crowd saw both the teams restrict the first quarter of the match to midfield.

Goa Velha almost scored in the 10th minute from a costly defensive error by keeper Felix D'Souza, whose pass was intercepted by Joe Colaco, who covering a few yards latched a power pecked shot which was blocked by Salgaocar defender Milagres Gonsalves.

In the 13th minute defender Ajmaludin Umer tackled Joe Colaco inside the penalty box, leaving no option for referee Valenton Fernandes, to point to the dreaded spot. Nester Dias kept his cool to score from the penalty spot, 1-0.

Down by a goal Salgaocar built their attack and came with a series of raids, where two efforts by Bale whose placement missed narrowly and then his firm header went into the waiting hands of Goa Velha keeper.

However finally in the 23rd minute, Gilbert Oliveira collecting a pass from Milagres Gonsalves, drove a 25-yard stiff grounder, which crashed into the far corner of the goal, past the diving Goa Velha keeper Milagrio Madeira, 1-1. Salgaocar went into the breather relaxed by doubling their lead through a delightful chip by skipper Francis Fernandes, who scored in the 42nd minute of play.

Seventeen minutes into the second half and Salgaocar's Bale Gagandeep was sent off by the referee for double booking (rough play). The absence of a player was not much felt as Salgaocar scored their third goal in the 68th minute, as Gilbert Oliveira's 35-yard free kick, found substitute Rakesh Masih on the left flank, who connected a half volley which hit the back of the nylons, 3-1.

Goa Velha did try to come back in the match, but Joy Gonsalves shot into the rival keeper's hands, while Joe Colaco having an unguarded goal in front of him shot out. While Goa Velha failed to score, Salgaocar netted their fourth goal through their defender Augustin Fernandes, who guided his header into the goal off Gilbert Fernandes corner.
