Can Neymar be able to the top Brazilian footballer in Barca?.

26.05.2013: Surojit Deb : Do you know who is the first Brazilian player to play for Spanish giant FC Barcelona ?

Evaristo de Macedo Filho, the first Brazilian to play for FC Barcelona in the year 1957-1962. He is the head coach of Iraq in 1986 world cup. Brazilian striker Macedo made 114th appearances for Spanish giant and scored 78 goals. During his 5 year career he own 2 La Liga along with one Copa Del Rey.

Everyone remember 1994 world cup winning striker Romario, second Brazilian player to play for FC Barcelona. During his 2 year career(1993-1995) he scored 34 goals in 47 appearances. Can you guess any of the team mates at that time???

Quite easy to guess, it is former Barcelona coach Josep Pep Guardiola, Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup along with one of the greatest Bulgerian player Hristo Stoichkov.

When Romario leaves Barcelona another Brazilian replace him, three times FIFA player of the year Ronaldo and the interesting fact is that both Romario and Ronaldo joined Barcelona from Netherlands side PSV Eindhoven. Ronaldo stays only one season (1996-97) and scored 34 goals in 37 appearances. During his short spell here in Barcelona he won FIFA Player of the year to become the youngest player to won this one at that time. With his goal Barcelona won 1997 UEFA Cup Winners Cup.

Again in the next year another Brazilian replaced Ronaldo, do you know who he is?

He is, 2002 world cup winning Brazilian team's attacking midfielder, Rivaldo. During his 5 year (1997-2002) he scored 86 goals in 157 appearances. He won both the FIFA World Player of the Year and European Footballer of the Year awards in this spell and help his team to win La Liga in 2 times.

And tradition goes on, another Brazilian replaced Rivaldo. This time it is two time FIFA player of the year Ronaldinho. In his 5 year (2003-2008) in Catalan giant he scored 94 goals with 81 assists in his 214 appearances.

So far all are strikers or attacking midfielders, but no defenders from Brazil in Barcelona. Dani Alves became the first Brazilian defender in Barcelona. Right back Alves so far made more than 250 appearances, which is highest appearances so far by any Brazilian in Barcelona

Another Brazilian will join this summer, this is young sensational forward Neymar. 21 year old more than 50 goals in his club career and already made 32 appearances in his International career and scored 20 goals. With his speed, dribbling and finishing, Neymar was named South American player of the year and selected in the 23-man shortlist for the Ballon d'Or trophy in 2011 and 2012, and won the FIFA Puskas prize for the best goal of 2011. With his home team Santos, Neymar won the Copa do Brasil, Copa Libertadores, Campeonato Paulista and Recopa Sudamericana.

This will be the first time when there are two Brazilian players will play in the same season. Neymar is the 2nd youngest Brazilian after Ronaldo to join Barcelona. When Ronaldo was 21 year old he scored 24 goals while Neymar scored 20 goals. But Ronaldo scored 110 goals in his 117th appearances when he is 21 year old, where Neymar scored only 54 goals in his 102th appearances.

Statistics says Ronaldo is well ahead to be the most successful Brazilian who plays for Barcelona in this age. As Ronaldo plays only one year in Barcelona, Neymar will have a plenty of chance to become most successful Brazilian player in Barcelona. In this battle he has to overcome Ronaldinho's record of scored 94 goals with 81 assists.

We have to wait for this, but as per Neymar's scoring statistics so far he needs at least 4 season to beat Ronaldinho. Time will say how much he can deliver.
