Arthur Papas signs three year deal as Dempo SC Coach...

.... DSC PRESS RELEASE : After weeks of speculation and rumors, Dempo Sports Club has formally signed Arthur Papas today to a three-year contract to take over the head coaching position from Armando Colaco whose contract expires on May 31st.

The Australia-born Papas, who was shortlisted for the "Coach of the Year" award by the Football Players Association of India had guided the Indian National U-22 team to an impressive and memorable AFC U-22 qualifiers campaign in Oman. He comes to Dempo after having successfully coached Kolkata based side 'Pailan Arrows'.

Highly regarded for his tactical acumen, the 33-year-old Papas will take over from Armando Colaco who is leaving the club after a glorious 13 year career in which he won the "I-League" for a record five times and also guided the team to the Semi-Finals of 2008 edition of AFC Cup where Dempo lost narrowly with Safa FC of Lebanon.

Arthur Papas said he was incredibly grateful and excited about the opportunity and the challenges that will come with coaching one of the most successful teams in the I-League.

"It is with great pleasure and excitement that I have accepted the opportunity to become the Head Coach of Dempo SC for the next three seasons. I am extremely motivated to take on this challenge and playing a major part in what is a new chapter for this great club" said Mr. Papas

"Dempo SC have been synonymous with success for a very long time, although right now we are now in the middle of a transition period I will still be looking to provide a team that is very competitive from day one, whilst putting an infrastructure in place which sees us promote & develop more and more talented young players who are desperate to be part of Dempo SC for the long term."

He is also inspired by the vision of the club Director Mr S.V. Dempo in rebuilding the club and uplifting its professionalism 'From the moment I was approached by Mr. Shrinivas Dempo, I was sold by his vision for the future, his integrity as a person, and his desire to build Dempo SC beyond more than a first team and to further provide a football club to fans all over India who can continue to support and associate with" said the Melbournian.

Arthur Papas has also served the Australian Institute of Sport, Oakleigh Cannons FC and Newcastle Jets in the Australian 'A-League' before joining the Indian U-22 national football team as Head Coach.

He is highly regarded for building technical structures which see his teams play an exciting possession based style of football. He is also credited with the impressive performance of the "Oakleigh Cannons" in 2011 which saw him become the youngest ever to earn the "Coach of the year" award by the Football Federation Victoria.

Director of Dempo Sports Club, Mr. Shrinivas V. Dempo was confident of a promising future for the club, "With football in India set for a radical change, it was in good interest of all that we introduced fresh Ideas and create a proper mix of youth and experience to compete at the national and continental levels".

"We are convinced by his (Papas) work, in that we have seen the progress of the teams under him and the kind of good motivation that he has infused among the players of the India U-22 and Pailan Arrows" said Mr. Dempo.

With the confirmation of Arthur Papas at Dempo, the announcement regarding their foreign signings will be expected in the coming weeks. He will take over the reins of Dempo SC from the first week of July.

BBFS PRESS RELEASE : Bhaichung Bhutia Football Schools to play against Borussia Dortmund Students of Bhaichung Bhutia Football Schools (BBFS) will get the unique opportunity to play against the youth team of Champions League Runner-up Borussia Dortmund when they head for a tournament in Holland early next month.

BBFS Development Squads across three age groups (U11, U13 and U15) will participate in elite international tournaments in the Netherlands where they will compete against the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Feyenoord Rotterdam, Fulham, PSV Eindhoven, Fortuna Dusseldorf and Sparta Prague among others.

The tournament will be followed by a one week intensive training camp at the renowned Feyenoord Rotterdam Academy which has been awarded the best youth academy in the Netherlands for the last three years in a row. The most famous product of the Feyenoord Academy is Robin van Persie who recently won the best player award in the English Premier League.

'Both the tournament and the camp are expected to give our best players a unique opportunity to learn with the best in the world. Such exposure is rare for players in India and we are glad that through BBFS we can provide something to talented Indian kids that I never got when I was growing up.

It is our endeavour to ensure that exceptional talent gets the best learning opportunities, and we are funding 7 scholars from less fortunate financial backgrounds for this tournament and camp, who I believe have the potential to be stars for India in the future. DEMPO SPORTS CLUB BIDS FAREWELL TO ARMANDO COLACO..

DSC PRESS RELEASE : Dempo Sports Club recently held a private dinner party at a city hotel to say good bye and thank you to their Coach Armando Colaco whose contract is all set to expire on the 31st of this month. Attended by most of the players and non technical staff at the club, it was a perfect send off for the departing Coach.

Armando took over the reins at the club in the year 2000. His journey with the club was an intense voyage, which saw them play in the second division, and also witnessed the clubs phenomenal rise in Indian football, winning five National league titles in the process.

However, with several changes into the squad plus his contract set to expire, Armando Colaco had to make way for the change in guard at the club. Speaking on the occasion, Armando said that he will carry great pride and passion towards the club "It has been wonderful and unforgettable 13 years at the club and I will cherish those memories until my last breath. I was always a Dempo man and will continue to remain so" said the coach.

Mr. Colaco expressed his gratitude for the chairman Mr. Shrinivas V. Dempo, the club and its fans for supporting and believing in him in difficult times "I would like to thank Mr. Shrinivas Dempo for his support during some difficult moments of my career, especially this season when we suffered injuries to crucial players. I also thank to all the Dempo fans in India and abroad for their support and inspiration".

Club Chairman Mr. Shrinivas V. Dempo acknowledged the achievements by Armando Colaco and wished him the very best "We feel the moment has come where we need fresh Ideas with an experienced and youthful setup.
