I-League: Pune FC seal 2nd spot; down Arrows 2-0 for best-ever finish

PFC RELEASE : 11.05.2013 : Pune FC clinched the second spot in I-League 2012-13 campaign with a comfortable 2-0 win over Pailan Arrows in a Round 26 encounter at the Shri Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Pune on Saturday. Goals from strikers James Moga (39th minute) and Boima "Jerry" Karpeh (65th) handed Pune FC all three points who logged their 16th win of the season.

The tally was highest ever achieved by Pune FC who took their tally to an all-time best 52 points from 26 games. Currently Pune FC are level on points with champions Churchill Brothers. Pune FC began the game explosively with Jerry creating a chance in the opening minute only for an alert Arrows custodian Soram Poirei to deny.

Midway through the half, winger Khanthang Paite sent in a ball from the left saw Moga connect in front of the goal. His attempt came off the cross bar and his rebound was blocked by the keeper. Pune FC finally took the lead six minutes from the break. Left-back Gurjinder Kumar found Jerry in the center who controlled and bulldozed through the defense before taking a shot. His attempt was blocked and fell for Moga whose first time attempt beat the keeper.

The hosts took their one-goal lead into the breather.

After a slow start to the second half, Pune FC doubled their advantage twenty minutes in. Playmaker Douhou Pierre dispossessed a defender and set up Jerry on a run on the left. The striker controlled, held off a defender and slid the ball past the keeper.

The opponents restricted to few chances were denied by the defense and Pune FC 'keeper Amrinder Singh who pulled off few brilliant saves. The hosts created a few chances late in the game and held on to their two-goal lead to wrap up the match.

From August 10th to August 18th, 2013, 64 nations will take part in the 11th edition of the Homeless World Cup annual tournament, in Poznan, Poland. 48 nations will play in Mens amd 16 Nations for Women. In the year 2013, India will also participate like past 6 years( India did not participate in 2012 edition). In 2007 India started their participation. In the year 2011 India finished 33rd Position among 48 Nations where Japan ended 48th and in 2010 India finished 45th out of 48 Nations. After Poland in 2013, the Homeless World Cup annual tournament will travel to Chile in 2014.

In 2007 6th edition of the Home less World Cup held at Copehegen India first participated where Scottland won the Cup. The team was Shilpa Sukhdewe(Female-GK),Ratna Bhalam, Satyen Kotulwar, Milind Ukey, Shah Faisal Shaikh, Vinod Mendhe, Vishal Meshram, Coach Vasant Muluk, Manager: Virsen. S.Barse

The Homeless World Cup partner in India is Slumsoccer, which aims to reach to Indian underprivileged using Football as a tool for Social Empowerment. Slum soccer has been taking care of the travel and accommodation charges of all the participants and their coaches over these years. The Founder director is Abhijeet Barse of Nagpur through his welfare organisation Krida Vikas Sanstha Nagpur. Currently the organisation is associated with three schools from Nagpur who are providing them with the participants and the ground to conduct the football training. Like Previous years EPL famous side Tottenham Hotsspur is the Sponsor of Slum Soccer India.


TOURNAMENT VENUE :

Biswajit Nandy and Surojit Bhattacherjee are the two members, who has been selected to play in the Indian team. These two boys are having a tragic history as they are born and brought up at Sonagachi, the red light area of Kolkata. Their mother are still in the profession of prostitution.

Today the members of the Red and Gold Lovers, Abir Saha, Bikash Roy, and Kumar Basu met the boys at their residences and promised to help, so that they can establish themselves as footballers in the near future. Incidentally the Red And Gold Lovers are the associated Fan club of the East Bengal Club.

Biswajit Nandy is a student of Class twelve in Shyam Bazar A.V.School. He was on trial at the Mohun Bagan U-16,but his selection is yet to be finalized. Surojit Nandy is a student of Habra High School. They have a dream to establish themselves as a footballer are being coached by Biswajit Mazumdar. The expected expenses required for Surojit and Biswajit to participate in the tournament is 1.5 lacks. The Red and Gold Lovers members have promised for the financial help before they leave for France to Poland.

The Red and Gold Lovers has appealed to the football fraternity and to the football clubs of the country to give them a chance for a trial so that they can prove their ability and can fulfill their dream as a footballer.
