Mohalla Football Festival 2013 Prize Distribution ceremony

TheFootballLink Trust, a Delhi based not for profit organization, and the Delhi Police jointly organized the Mohalla Football Festival 2013 from the 29th of October to 1st of November at the Dr. Ambedkar Stadium and Delhi Armed Police Grounds, Vikaspuri.

The Festival concluded today with Nick Gates and Nora Dooley from Coaches across Continents delivering the final session on 'Child Development techniques through sports' for 60+ Delhi Police mentors and Football coaches from Delhi. Coaches across Continents is an internationally acclaimed organization that uses football as a vehicle for social change and have impacted more than 120,000 children across 20+ countries including Brazil, Cambodia, Jamaica, Indonesia, Kenya, Zambia, Liberia, Ghana and Sudan.

On the 31st of October, Football teams from Delhi Police CYDP centers, surrounding slums and partner NGOs participated in Under-12, Under-15 and Under-19 football tournaments, multiple coaching sessions and nutrition & medical camps during the festival. This one of its kind football festival for 500+ underprivileged children was supported by Delhi Soccer Association, One World Futbol, Coaches Across Continents, Slum Soccer India, Special Olympics Bharat, FICCI, Football Players Association of India, Wockhardt Foundation, Magic Bus, Save the Children, Salaam Balak Trust, Literacy India, Udayan Care, My Angels Academy and Swechha.

During the Award ceremony, Advisory panel members of TheFootballLink Trust, Mr Neeraj Kumar (Former Commissioner of Police, Delhi), Air Marshall Denzil Keelor (Retd.), Sqn Ldr S S Hakim, Mr Novy Kapadia and Mr Biraja Misra gave team and individual awards to the talented underprivileged footballers who participated in the festival. The winners of the Under-19, Under-15 and Under-12 categories were Magic Bus NGO, TheFootballLink-Vikaspuri Police Center and My Angels Academy respectively.

Football teams from Delhi Police CYDP centers, surrounding slums and partner NGOs participate in various free football tournaments, multiple coaching sessions and nutrition & medical camps during the festival. This one of its kind football festival for 500+ underprivileged children is being supported by One World Futbol, Coaches Across Continents, Slum Soccer India, Special Olympics Bharat, FICCI, Delhi Soccer Association, Football Players Association of India, Wockhardt Foundation, Magic Bus, Save the Children and other organizations.

On the first two days, Mr. Nick Gates and Ms. Nora Dooley from Coaches Across Continents are conducting workshops on 'Child Development techniques through sports' for 60+ Delhi Police mentors and Football coaches from Delhi. On the 31st, 16 NGO teams and 16 Delhi Police-CYDP teams will participate in a Futsal tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium along with multiple Coaching and Scouting camps for the children participating in the festival. Wockhardt Foundation and Save the Children will also organize Nutrition and Medical camps during the festival.

32 football teams will participate in one day football event being organised tomorrow at Dr. Ambedkar Stadium under agis of Mohalla Football Festival-2013. The football teams belonging to slum-dwellers area of Delhi-NCR region, including children of under-previliged and dis-advantage community in the age group of Under-12, U-15 and U-19 will be the star attraction during one day-soccer event scheduled to begin tomorrow (Oct.31) from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm at Dr.Ambedkar Stadium.

The event is being organised jointly by The FootballLink Trust and Delhi Police in order to promote game of soccer and to harness the up-coming talent. Besides, fotball meet, the trust is also conducting coaches workshop on 'Child Development techniques through spors' for Delhi Police mentors and football coaches from Delhi.

Reputed Coaches Across the continents particularly Nick Gates and Nora Dooley of USA and UK will also impart training to coaches of Delhi-NCR region and will also be focusing on child development through football. The trust will also honoured the most valued player of the soccer meet besides four best players in the category of goal-keeping, defence, mid-fielder and striker. Lt. Governor of Delhi Najeeb Jung will be chief guest alongwith Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi to grace the occasion by distributing prizes to the winners.
