GFA - BY CHARLES D'SOUZA: The FIFA's Ambitious project of taking football to the grassroots of India is moving in the right direction stated Scott O'Donell. Technical Director, All India Football Federation Academies and also Director, Coach Education was in Goa to conduct the AFC 'B' Licence Course and expressed satisfaction the way things are shaping up in the AIFF Academies.

The Progress made to a certain extent is very encouraging, it's in the right direction, it has worked very well so far. The fact that so many young footballers areliving together and training full time is a positive approach. The Academy has given them a platform to realize their ambitions and they are in a football environment, it's amazing winning and losing together and everything is done together and this serve the purpose well and we would like to start more football academies explained Scott O' Donell at length and added that it is a long term project.

O' Donell who is in charge further informed that FIFA had certain plans for India and directed him to set up the Academies. The Project is in the initial stages and the results won't come instantly. We are looking out the right talent and it's not easy to find as India is vast country.

Our focus is on the young age to developed their skills and shape up to became a good football player O'Donnel said. The Aussies was also praise full for the India Under 16 and Under 19 team participated in the AFC qualifier tournament in Kuwait and Doha Qatar which serves as a exposure for the kids to the rigours of travel and acclimatized to different environment at a young stage.

With football not as popular as cricket in this part of the world. O'Donell has his task cut out to prove his appointment. 'My job is to locate the talent and to oversee the philosophy we preach is being implemented and imparted in the correct manner and also help and educate the coaches and to update them on the curriculum and advise the them the latest technique in football O' Donnel described his duties.

Mohalla Football Festival 2013 in association with Delhi Police..

TheFootballLink Trust, a Delhi based not for profit organization, and the Delhi Police are jointly organizing the Mohalla Football Festival 2013 from 29th - 31st October at the Ambedkar Stadium and Delhi Armed Police grounds, Vikaspuri. Football teams from Delhi Police CYDP centers, surrounding slums and partner NGOs participate in various free football tournaments, multiple coaching sessions and nutrition & medical camps during the festival.

This one of its kind football festival for 500+ underprivileged children is being supported by One World Futbol, Coaches Across Continents, Slum Soccer India, Special Olympics Bharat, FICCI, Delhi Soccer Association, Football Players Association of India, Wockhardt Foundation, Magic Bus, Save the Children and other organizations.

On the first two days, Mr. Nick Gates and Ms. Nora Dooley from Coaches Across Continents are conducting workshops on 'Child Development techniques through sports' for 60+ Delhi Police mentors and Football coaches from Delhi.

Coaches across Continents is an internationally acclaimed organization that uses football as a vehicle for social change and have impacted more than 120,000 children across 20+ countries including Brazil, Cambodia, Jamaica, Indonesia, Kenya, Zambia, Liberia, Ghana and Sudan.

On the 31st, 16 NGO teams and 16 Delhi Police-CYDP teams will participate in a Futsal tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium along with multiple Coaching and Scouting camps for the children participating in the festival. Wockhardt Foundation and Save the Children will also organize Nutrition and Medical camps during the festival.

IMG - IPL STYLE FOOTBALL : Postponed upto Sept 2014..

Newly proposed IMG RELIANCE IPL style football tournament / Indian Super League which was scheduled to be started from 18th January 2014 and will continue until March of 2014 has been postponed upto September 2014. This decision made by IMG- AIFF - STAR INDIA jointly in a meeting. It has been learnt that due to conflict of the Main schedule of I-League 2013-14 as well as unavailability of stadium in Goa due to Lusofonia Games, the committee decided to start this tournament from September.

Previous in the year 2012 the same thing occured when AIFF commercial partner IMG - RELIANCE proposed two months IPL style Football postponed until the start of 2012-13 I-League. Previously one more proposed IPL style football tournament, Premier League soccer in Bengal was cancelled due to several problems which was wnated to organise by IFA and CMG.

But in the mean time IMG also contracted some top ex-International footballers like Louis Saha, Dwight Yorke, Fredrik Ljungberg, Hernan Crespo and Robert Pires to play as the icon player and Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel, 1998 World Cup winner France International and Former AC Milan and Chelsea star Marcel Desailly and Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish already signed for managerial role in their proposed 8 top Indian city based League.

Siliguri Football : Siliguri Football Academy win 115 point 10 teams Tournament.

Siliguri Football Academy, Siliguri win the 10 teams invitational football tournament held at Siliguri Kanchanjungha Football Stadium. The 10 teams football Tournament started on 16th Oct. The name of the Tournament was Kalipada Dhar Winners, Amrit Kr.Choudhary Runners and Rohit Kr.choudhary Fair Play Trophy. The Tournament was Organised by Vivekananda Club Morning Soccer Coaching Centre, Siliguri.

The teams of the Tournament were, East Bengal Academy, Mohun Bagan Athletic Club, Mohammedan Sporting Club, United sports Club, Sayamnagar Sabuj Sangha, Basirhat Kishore Bahini from Kolkata and St.Augustine School from Kalimpong and Odlabari Rising club from Odlabari and VNC Morning Soccer Coaching Centre & Siliguri Football Academy from Siliguri.

AFC 'B' Licsenced Coach Jayabrata Ghosh who once the coach of Bengal U-14 team also is very much delighted about the success of Siliguri Football Academy where he is coaching the boys. In the 115 point Tournament his Academy, defeated United Sports Club of KolkT by 2-0. Then Basirhat Kishore Bahini, South 24 parganas by 4-2 (Penalty shootout) wheer the schedule time result was 1-1. The team beat East Bengal Football Academy in the semi-final by the margin of 4-2 in tie breaker (Schedule time was 1-1).

In the final the team defeated Odlabari Rising Football Academy by 2-1 and win the Trophy and a cash award of 21000/- and Runners - up Odlabari Rising Football Academy got Trophy and 11000/- /cash prize.

Siliguri FA Goal Keeper Albert Tirkey received the award of best goal keeper of the tournament and Sayan Sarkar of the Academy who scored 4 goals got the top scorer award. Another player of the Acaeemy Deep Chander Ekka got the award of the best player of the tournament.
