AFC CUp SEMI FINAL - East Bengal vs Kuwait FC. at Salt Lake

Jaydip Dasgupta : The dream and hopes of East Bengal to reach the final of the AFC Cup are in vein now. The Red and Gold were defeated at home by Kuwait SC by a margin of 3-0, who reached the final of the second seeded tournament of Asia for the forth time in a row. The Brazilian starn Rogerino Coutinho created all the damages in the East Bengal deep defense all through. He not only scored the first goal for his team, Arnab Mondal had to marched off the ground in the 65th minute as he hold Rogerino from behind when he beat him in sheer speed and was about to enter the 18 yards.

East Bengal started in a attacking mood right from the beginning in front of a strong 80 thousand odd spectators. The Honble Governor Mr M.K. Narayanan,Sports Minister Mr Madan Mitra and host of ex footballers were present to cheer for the Red and Gold.

The chances were even till the 41st minute of the first half. East Bengal had the opportunities of scoring in the first and in the minute 22nd minute which was wasted by James Moga. In both the occasions he had only the goalkeeper to beat. In the 22nd minute Moga received a pass from Kavin Lobo dribbled passed a Kuwaiti defender but shots straight to the goalkeeper Alkandari who was at his mercy.

Kuwait Sc had the opportunity in 10th minute when Jumah's free kick from outside the 18 yards hit the post. In this session East Bengal layed a number of passes in the Kuwaiti half but unable to create the chances except twice. The scenario chance dramatically at the flag end of the first session.

The Kuwaiti team was waiting for the gap in the Red and Gold deep defense. In the 42nd minute Rogerino received a ball in his half covered almost 30 yards with his sheer speed and ball control utilized the open space in East Bengal deep defense and placed the ball to the right of Abhijit Mondal to bring a 1-0 lead for Kuwait SC.

The margin increase by Khudhari in the 44th minute when be beat the East Bengal defense utilizing his speed and places in the open goal. In both the cases Uga Opara along with the other defenders were not in their position. The Kuwait SC's coach rightly said that he knew that East Bengal will go all out to makeup the deficit margin and his target was to utilize the situation. For this reason he has included the fastest striker Khudhari in the first line up.

In the second session East Bengal created some moves but failed to open the goal mouth. But it was Dika who was unlucky in the second session as his long rangers was saved by the Kuwaiti goalkeeper Alkandari in three occasions. In fact it was Alkandari who proved to be the savoir of Kuwait SC in the second session.

In this session Kuwait SC was a bit defensive and wait for the counter attacks. East Bengal conceded the third goal in the 86th minute. The Kuwait's wing back Shareen dribbled past two of the Red and Gold deep defender and confirm his team to enter the final of the AFC Cup.
