20.09.2013: JAYDIP DASGUPTA : The seventh edition of the greatest football league in India, I-League (Though it is the 18season,previously known as National league) is going to be kicked off on the 21st of September. It is expected that the I-League will be competitive with 13 teams to be played in home and away basis. The AIFF has included two franchisee football team in order to make the league more professional.

The JSW football team, Bangaluro FC will meet against the Kolkata giant Mohun Bagan on the 2nd day of the tournament at Kantirambha Stadium at Bangalore. The 2nd franchisee team from the Dorsal Group withdraw from the League at the last minute.

The defending champions Churchill Brothers will meet the Salgaocar Sports club in the opening encounter at Goa, while the Durand champions Mohammedan Sporting will face the 2nd seeded team in last year's league Pune FC at Kolkata. The 3rd match are scheduled at Pune between Mumbai FC and Sporting Clube.

20.09.2013: AIFF MEDIA TEAM Airtel has been roped in as the Title sponsor of the 2013-14 edition of the I-League. The 2013-14 Airtel I-League kicks-off on Saturday (September 21). All India Football Federation President Mr. Praful Patel welcomed the Telecom giants as the new Sponsor. "I welcome Airtel as the new Title Sponsor of the I-League. All India Football Federation stays committed for the upliftment of the sport in the Country and we hope this marks the beginning of a new and long relationship."

All India Football Federation General Secretary Mr. Kushal Das echoed the same sentiment. "The deal between AIFF and Airtel proves there are many takers for Indian Football. I welcome them to the I-League," he stated.

Ashu Jindal, COO, IMG-Reliance said - "I'm happy to have Airtel as the Title Sponsor. This is a hugely motivating step for Indian Football." I-League CEO Mr. Sunando Dhar said: "This is very inspiring. Having Airtel as the Title Sponsor would provide the right impetus for the I-League." Champions Churchill resume title defence.'

Though it is said that the I-League is the biggest football tournament in India, but since it's introduction the league is based in some zonal level. As we have seen that the football clubs from Kolkata, Goa,are the main participants. A large area of the sub continent are yet to include in the league. So it really a question to the football fanatics that how far the I League is successful.

After the departure of JCT Mills from the main stream of Indian football none of the teams from North India are qualified themselves to play in the league. Even the role of the AIFF to promote I League professionally and commercially is questionable.Except the Derby between the two giants of Kolkata - East Bengal and Mohun Bagan the attendance in the stands are really poor.

The opening encounters that are scheduled on tomorrow will not be telecasted live. So,The Football House should consider the aspects and try to make this league more attractive and positive in all scenes.

The AIFF has decided to include four foreigners from the starting eleven. A second team from the North East Rangdajied United will going to participate in the league along with Mohammedan Sporting club of Kolkata who are promoted to play second division.
