BFC PRESS RELEASE Riding on a confidence-inducing start to their Federation Cup campaign, Bengaluru FC next face the challenge of Shillong team Rangdajied United in a Group B fixture at the MDSC Stadium, in Manjeri, on Saturday. Ashley Westwood's team moved to the top of the table with three points, beating Sporting Clube de Goa 5-3 before East Bengal and Rangdajied played out a 1-1 draw in the group's other game.

Bengaluru put on a commanding show for most parts of the game against Sporting but Westwood knows well enough than to take their next opponents lightly. "We're looking forward to tomorrow's game. We have another tough opponent in Rangdajied United who are coming on the back of a decent result against East Bengal. We are well aware that we need to at our best to try to get a result. Hopefully the boys will be full of confidence, especially since we scored five in our last game. It's just important that we don't get complacent because every game presents itself as a difficult task," said Westwood.

Westwood would have surely sat down and ironed out the defensive lapses that saw Bengaluru concede three goals in the space of 17 minutes before Robin Singh struck to put the issue beyond doubt. But the boys would be keener on taking the many positives from the win as they approach a very vital game.

The team had a light session on Friday and Westwood is pleased with the way things are going. "The spirit in the camp is very good. The morale of the team is blossoming all the time and we are very happy with our preparations and facilities as we try as a club to leave no stone unturned. Hopefully, this gives us a good platform to continue our progress." The game kicks off at 7.30 pm.

Fed Cup - Mohun Bagan to face Shillong Lajong.

17.01.2014 : KFC. | www.kolkatafootball.com HOME PAGE

Shillong Lajong FC will take on experienced campaigners Mohun Bagan in a Federation Cup encounter at the J.N.Stadium, Cochin at 4:00 PM IST on the 18th of January, 2014. The match will be telecast live on Ten Action.

This will be Lajong's second match in Group C after the commanding 4-0 win against Goan side Salgaocar FC in their opening fixture. Shillong Lajong have the best mentality going into the match with the Kolkata giants who have won the cup a staggering 13 times. Shillong Lajong FC are at the top of Group C with 3 points, the same as Mohun Bagan who are second place only by a more inferior goal difference.

Both teams will be looking for another three points and cement their place at the top and also ensure their passage through to the semi finals. Shillong Lajong coach Thangboi Singto said, "Winning will give us better chances for the Semi finals. We are expecting a good and competitive match."

The Reds will have great confidence going into the game with their star striker and Trinidad and Tobago International Cornell Glen providing an important winning performance for Lajong in their match against Salgaocar. Also a huge positive for Lajong is the performance of the player's from their youth academy ranks including the likes of Redeem Tlang, Shaiborlang Kharpan and Bipin Singh. Redeem was phenomenal in the game against Salgaocar even scoring his first senior team goal for Shillong Lajong FC and becoming Lajong's youngest goal scorer (Senior Team) at the age of 18.

While Shaiborlang Kharpan and Bipin Singh came on as substitutes in the second half and they will look to prove Thangboi Singto even more with their performances against Mohun Bagan. Karim Bencherifa's men are very much aware of the capabilities of their opponents.

His side picked up a win against Mumbai FC on their first Group C match and will be looking to convert more chances in the encounter against Lajong after Christopher Chizoba squandered a lot of goal opportunities in the opening match despite scoring the winning goal for The Mariners.

The Kolkata outfit has not had one of the most impressive I-League campaigns as well having picked up only 18 points from 15 games in the league. Despite some recent on and off the pitch setbacks for the green-and-maroon the services of Odafa Okolie back in the starting line up would be a huge boost upfront and along

with the dangerous services of Japanese midfielder Katsumi Yusa, they will prove to be a tough opposition for Shillong Lajong FC. Thangboi Singto also added, "Mohun Bagan have good foreigners and Indian players as well. They also have a very highly respected coach and we need to do well in all aspects to stand a chance to win against them."

A lot will be at stake in this encounter between the experienced Mohun Bagan and the resilient Shillong Lajong FC who have proved to be strong contenders for the Federation Cup. In another Group C match on the same day Mumbai FC will take on Salgaocar FC at 7:00PM IST.
