13.08.2015 : East Bengal Club observed the 76th birthday of their ex-General Secretary Paltu [Dipak] Das as "Sports Day". The club organized a host of programme through out day. In the morning a Blood Donation Camp and a Free Health check up camp organized where 200 people donated blood.

In the evening the main programme organized at the club premises where the principle secretary of sports, Government of West Bengal Mr Rajesh Pandey were the chief guest along with Mr Utpal Ganguly the secretary of IFA, West Bengal. The ex international footballer and captain of East Bengal in Krishanu Dey were honored with “Paltu Das Memorial Trophy” posthumously for his extraordinary contribution to Indian football. The trophy and a cheque of Rs 50 thousand were handed over to the wife and son of the late footballer by Bhaskar Ganguly, the ex international goalkeeper.



The General Secretary of East Bengal Mr Kalyan Mazumdar while delivering his speech said that the football clubs are on the threat of ISL. Mr Mazumdar are of the opinion that new strategies by way of commercialization is required in order to devolope the football clubs of India. Eminent sports journalist Mr Boria Mazumdar while addressing in the "Paltu Das Memorial Lecture for Sports" said that a two months tournament like ISL cannot improve the quality of football in India. He says that proper implementation and planning by the football clubs can be the choice for development. The football clubs like East Bengal and Mohun Bagan, who have their fanatics worldwide can play a major role in this respect.

The IFA Secretary Mr Utpal Ganguly thanks to the Sports Secretary to start football once again in the center of the city, Kokata maidan. He urge for the arrangement of flood light in Kolkata maidan so that a match can organize even in the evening. He added that in the last derby match at Kolkata 86 thousand spectators were present at Yubabharati Kriangan while 19 lacks people witnessed the match in the electronic medias, which is far beyond the record of any ISL match viewers.

In fact it must be mentioned that in the AFC Cup semifinal at Kolkata more than 72 thousand spectators were present to witness the match between East Bengal and Kuwait FC.

Salgaocar FC beat Churchill Brothers SC 2-1 in a thrilling quarter-final of the u-20 Police Cup

13.08.2015 - Salgaocar Press Release : Salgaocar FC chose to field their U-20 side for the Police Cup and the juniors gave their fans much to cheer about after rallying from a goal down to beat Churchill Brothers SC 2-1 in a thrilling quarter-final of the Police Cup played at the SAG ground in Cuncolim. The teams were locked 1-1 at the breather.

Playing in front of a capacity crowd, Salgaocar's youngsters took a while to settle down as Churchill enjoyed the lion's of possession share early on. Nicholas Fernandes in particular threatened the Salgaocar citadel repeatedly with the Fernandes duo of Seriton and Semson ably assisting him. Naro Hari Shrestha who led the attack for Salgaocar and goal keeper Rohan Sheikh stood out for the Greens, with captain Godfrey Mascarenhas marshalling the resources admirably in defence. Within the first 15 minutes keeper Rohan pulled off 2 stunning saves including one from point blank range that had the defence scrambling to clear their lines to ensure no early damage was done.

However on the stroke of the half hour mark, Churchill Bros broke the deadlock when a beautifully essayed ball from the right saw an onrushing Nicholas Fernandes slot the ball calmly to the keeper's right. The goal seemed to have spurred the Salgaocar lads as they attacked with a lot more purpose and intent. A neat build up saw Naro's cross from the right met by Jason but the ball sailed wide. In the 37th minute however, the teams were level courtesy a superlative team goal. Naro upon receiving the ball just after the half line, smartly beat a couple of defenders and played a through ball to Myron. The last name squared the ball on the turn for Jason to tap in from close.

The change of ends saw the game get a lot more physical, the lush green slippery surface aiding sliding tackles. Salgaocar were happy to break on the counter as Churchill did most of the running. Raja and Harmanjot on the flanks for Salgaocar were brought into play with Churchill opting for a more direct approach. In the 57th minute off a throw-in Harmanjot centred the ball deep. With a couple of players vying for the aerial ball, the ball landed at the feet of Naro who smashed home with his left foot giving the keeper no chance.

Thereafter Churchill raided the Salgaocar goal repeatedly with Seriton's in swinging cross coming off the woodwork. Rohan effected 2 more outstanding saves towards the latter part of the to keep the Churchill forwards at bay. And despite earning a succession of corners in the final 5 minutes of the game, Salgaocar's youngsters managed to hold fort to ensure a safe passage through to the semi-finals where they will take on Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim on the 16th at Tilak Maidan, Vasco.

13.08.2015 - BY CHARLES D'SOUZA MARGAO: : Sao Jose de Areal village has been the cradle of footballers, having produced champions like Bento Andrew, Valente Fernandes, Inacio Viegas and Gilbert Olveira who went on to win laurels for the state and country in football. Delton Colaco, a student of Bethany Convent High School, who also hailed from the above village, is walking in the footsteps of his illustrious predecessors, to bring the lost glory of the past back to village. Delton has been selected to attend the training at the ' U ' - Dream football in Germany.

He will be trained in Germany by TSG Hoffenheim for a period of six years He represented Bethany Convent High School, Sao Jose de Areal for the Subroto Mukherjee Cup football tournament [ Under 14] in New Delhi in 2014 He also piled his trade for Salgaocar F C.Meanwhile Bethany Convent HS, along with PTA, felicitated Delton Colaco at the hands of.

Armando Colaco --- the former East Bengal, Dempo, Sesa Goa Sports Club, Salcete Football Club and India coach --- at a function held at school hall on Saturday. Mementos, gifts and bouquets were offered to Delton Colaco on behalf of the students and teachers of the school. Armando Colaco- the chief guest also offered his personal gift.In his address, Colaco congratulated Delton and appealed to the other students to draw inspiration from Delton. Rev. Sr. Dr Trisilla B S along with PTA members were present on the occasion. Delton will leave Mumbai for Germany on 20th August.
