Md Habib will be honored with “BHARAT GAURAV” by East Bengal in their 96th birthday  on  1st August Md Habib, the living legend will be honored with "BHARAT GAURAV" by East Bengal Club in their 96th birthday on the 1st of August for his exempilary contribution in Indian football. Born on 17th July 1949, Md Habib proved himself as one of the important footballer of the country with his dedication, leadership, individual brilliance and disciplined life.

Md Habib started his run at a young age when he joined City College Old Boys' Club in Hyderabad. But, he came to the limelight after joining as a regular member of Hyderabad Telephones. Md Habib came to Kolkata in the year 1966 when he was spotted by J.C. Guha, the official of East Bengal. J.C. Guha was spellbound by the efforts of a young star playing for Hyderabad in Santosh Trophy. It was the initiative of J.C.Guha which was responsible for dawning the Red and Gold shirt at a young age along with Shyam Thapa, Sayeed Nayeemuddin and Md Afzal. Md Habib starts a new era in Indian football which can be rated as successful and highly productive.

He is responsible for many historic wins dawning the Red and Gold shirt including the memorable triumphs against Pas Club, Pyong Young City, Dock Row Gang.

    Md Habib, who was well known as 'Bare Miya' played for all the three giants of Kolkata - East Bengal, Mohun Bagan and Mohammedan Sporting. In a span of 18 years of football carrier Habib played a number of important matches in India and abroad which includes an exhibition match at Eden Gardens, Kolkata against King Pele's Cosmos Club of New York representing Mohun Bagan in the year 1977. In fact Md Habib are one of the rare footballer in the history of Indian football who had won almost all the honours during his tenure.

    It is indeed a good initiative of East Bengal to felicitating Md.Habib in their 96th birthday. The other footballers who will be felicitated are : Chandan Banerjee, the captain of 1966 with the life time achievement award {Dr Ramesh Sen Memorial Award}.

    Robert Lalthalmuana , Player of the Year { Banwarilal Memorial Award}. East Bengal will feliciatate the match supervisor Subrata Sarkar and Udayan Halder with Pratul Chakraborty and Pankaj Gupta Memorial Award respectively.
