22.09.2014: Materazzi unveils ISL team Chennaiyin FC Logo

Chennaiyin FC Official Press Release: Chennaiyin FC, the newest club in the Hero Indian Super League today unveiled its official Logo Duradrishti also known as Drishti – a representation of preserving the positivity. The club’s unique Logo was launched by former Italian World Cup winner and Chennaiyin FC Manager-Player Marco Materazzi and club’s co-owner Mrs Vita Dani.

Designed by Ogilvy & Mather – an international advertising and marketing agency, Chennaiyin FC logo is a symbol commonly used by every house in Tamil Nadu to deflecting the negatives and up-keeping the positive environment and perfection. The concept of Drishti is not limited to Tamil Nadu or in India alone. Known by different names and adopted in different forms, these charms are popular not only across India but as far afield as Europe. In North India, it’s known as Nazar Battu, while in Turkey its Nazar Boncugu or Spanish as mal de ojo and Italian as malocchio.

The colour yellow, being the lightest hue of the spectrum, represents uplifting and illuminating, offering hope, happiness, cheerfulness and fun, while Blue is synonymous to trust, honesty and loyalty.

Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Vita Dani said, “I am delighted that our team name and logo originates from the heart of Chennai’s life and culture. Tamil Nadu and especially Chennai has a rich history in the field of sports and we at Chennaiyin FC are committed to promote the beautiful game across the State.

I am thankful to the Hero Indian Super League for creating this wonderful platform and I look forward to make Chennai my new home.”

Abhishek Bachchan, co-owner of Chennaiyin FC said, “These are exciting time for football fans in the country. Being an ardent football supporter, our club Chennaiyin FC comes very close to my heart. Indian Super League has given us an opportunity to get involved in football and the most exciting aspect for me is to work on the grassroots level and youth academies.”

The inaugural season of Hero Indian Super League is scheduled to start from 12th October 2014. Chennaiyin FC will play their first home match at the 40,000 capacity Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on 19th October against Kerala Blasters FC.

Chennaiyin FC sign Djemba Djemba and Maurice

19.10.2014: Chennaiyin FC press Release :: Chennaiyin FC is delighted to announce the signings of Cameroonian midfielder Eric Djemba Djemba and Haitian forward Jean Maurice Edu.

Djemba Djemba is a former Manchester United player and was last plying his trade for Scottish Premiership club St Mirren. The 33-year-old midfielder has represented Cameroon 24 times at senior international level including the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

Maurice is a former Paris Saint Germain player and has also featured for Lens and Le Mans in the French top tier. The 28-year-old is currently a member of the Haiti national team and has an excellent record of scoring 10 goals in 15 international appearances.

Djemba Djemba and Maurice have been roped in due to the imminent departures of Swedish midfielder Pierre Tillman and Spanish striker Eduardo Silva Lerma. There were technical issues with the contracts of both Tillman and Eduardo and thus they will leave Chennaiyin FC.

“We are happy to sign Djemba Djemba and Maurice. Both are top players and will add plenty of quality and experience to our team. We are also sad that Tillman and Eduardo are leaving and wish them well for the future,” said Chennaiyin FC manager-player Marco Materazzi.

Djemba Djemba spent two seasons at Manchester United and won the FA Cup in 2004. He also played for Aston Villa in the English Premier League besides having stints in Qatar, Denmark, Israel and Serbia.

Maurice was born in France but went on to represent North America’s Haiti at international level and also played in the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup. After initially starting his youth career in USA, the forward moved to France and has spent his entire professional career there.

Djemba Djemba and Maurice are expected to be in India next week once they get their visas. Chennaiyin FC is looking forward to having them in action soon in the Hero Indian Super League.

Everyone at Chennaiyin FC would also like to take this opportunity to thank both Tillman and Eduardo for the hard work they put in during their time at the club and also wish them well for the future.
