ISL PRESS RELEASE : Delhi Dynamos fought back from a goal down to heap more misery on FC Goa with an comfortable 5-1 victory in Hero Indian Super League clash at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi, on Sunday.
Brazilian striker Marcelinho Pereira scored a magnificent hat-trick with goals in the 38th, 48th and 56th minute while Richard Gadze scored the other two goals to help Delhi Dynamos inch closer to a place in the semifinals. Delhi have now moved to the second spot with 20 points from 12 matches.
Delhi, however, are not yet guaranteed of a semi-final spot as yet as three other teams (Kerala Blasters, Atletico de Kolkata and NorthEast United) can all overtake their points tally if results go their way. Delhi requires two point from their last two matches to stand a chance of qualification to play-offs.
In the first half, the teams were tied 1-1 after Fulganco Cardozo gave Goa the lead in the 31st minute but Marcelinho equalised seven minutes later. Delhi's domination in the second session, however, stunned FC Goa as they conceded four goals in nine minutes.
After a cagey start where Delhi Dynamos were the better team, FC Goa surged ahead just after half an hour’s play through Fulganco. A neat through pass from Reinaldo Oliveira saw Julio Cesar draw out defender Anas Edathodika and goalkeeper Sorem Porei. His attempt from a narrow angle saw the goalkeeper close it down but the rebound fell for Fulganco who tapped it inside an empty goal.
Delhi equalised within seven minutes from a well-worked free-kick. Florent Malouda chose to slide a ball through for Marcelinho on the left and the Brazilian striker made no mistake slamming the ball past Goa goalkeeper Laxmikant Kattimani.
In the second session, there was a complete transformation as Delhi scored four goals in nine minutes. Marcelinho started Delhi’s goal run in the 48th minute scoring from nowhere. He got a ball about 25 yards out, cut past Richarlyson who was marking him and then sent a rasping drive that beat Kattimani for the second time.
Richard Gadze scored his first of the night in the 51st minute after Marcelinho turned provider and the Brazilian himself completed his hat-trick in the 56th minute. Marcos Tebar played a nice diagonal ball from Delhi’s own half which saw Marcelinho take Goa defender Debabrata Roy for a ride on the right, cutting him inside and then leaving him rooted to the ground before he hammered the ball inside the goal.
Gadze made it 5-1 in the 57th minute. It was Tebar again who provided a delightful overhead ball which Gadze controlled, then shunted out the challenge of Raju Gaekwad and scored his second goal of the night. The defeat left FC Goa rooted to the bottom with 11 points from 13 matches and they will be hugely embarrassed after suffering their biggest defeat in the history of ISL.

ISL PRESS RELEASE : Chennaiyin FC played out a dramatic 3-3 draw in Hero Indian Super League 2016 with NorthEast United FC in front of more than 25,000 spectators at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Saturday. Dudu opened the scoring in the 34th minute before Nicolas Velez equalised four minutes later. Another goal by the Nigerian made it 2-1 at the break but Velez levelled again six minutes after the restart. Dudu completed his hat-trick nine minutes from full-time but Shouvik Ghosh headed a late goal in injury-time to share the spoils.
Chennaiyin went close to breaking the deadlock in the sixth minute when Davide Succi sent a shot fizzing wide of the target and the despairing arms of Subrata Paul. John Arne Riise also went close for the hosts seven minutes later when a thunderous deflected free-kick was tipped over the crossbar by Paul in goal.
NorthEast registered their first shot on target in the 22nd minute when Romaric tried his luck from a free-kick that forced Karanjit Singh into a save. Another free-kick by the Ivory Coast midfielder three minutes later found the head of Mailson Alves but Karanjit was perfectly positioned in goal to make the save.
Emiliano Alfaro was then played in on goal shortly after with an incisive pass from Velez. The Uruguayan striker managed to get his shot on target but Karanjit got down low to his left quickly to deny the visitors again. The Highlanders were beginning to grow into the game but were set back in the 34th minute when Mehrajuddin Wadoo produced a quality cross from the right on the overlap. Dudu lost his marker, Didier Zokora at the near post, to head Wadoo’s cross into the back of the net and make it 1-0 to Chennai.
NorthEast weren’t behind for too long though thanks to some individual brilliance by Velez. The Argentine picked up the ball a few yards from the penalty area in the 38th minute before running at Chennai’s defence and finishing with aplomb past a helpless Karanjit to restore parity.
Succi had a header on goal for the Chennai two minutes later but Paul saved comfortably. The NorthEast custodian had no chance in stoppage-time at the end of the first half, however, when a low cross by Jerry Lalrinzuala from the left was expertly converted with an angled left-footed finish by Dudu at the near post to make it 2-1 for Chennai at half-time.
The visitors got back on level terms again six minutes into the second period when a half-clearance found its way to Velez on the edge of the box. Velez hit the ball first-time and beat Karanjit in goal to make it 2-2 and silence the home support.
Both sides kept probing the opposition defences in search of the winner with the match becoming increasingly stretched as the half wore on. NorthEast suffered a huge blow in terms of personnel in the 77th minute when Paul had to be replaced by TP Rehenesh in goal after picking up an injury.
Things went further south for the Highlanders four minutes later when Dudu completed his hat-trick to become the only player to score a hat-trick for two different teams. A low cross from the right by substitute Bernard Mendy was somehow bundled into goal by the Nigerian at the near post again, making it 3-2 with a little under 10 minutes of normal time remaining.
Tempers flared towards the end of the game with NorthEast pushing hard for a last-minute equaliser. Velez saw an attempt of his own cleared off the goal-line by Eli Sabia in stoppage-time before turning provider from a corner in the dying minutes of the match for Ghosh, who powered his header past Karanjit and made it 3-3 at full-time.
With the draw, NorthEast went to 15 points from 12 games, while Chennai’s semis hopes took a big beating as they now have 15 points from 13 games, appearing to be heading towards an early exit.

ISL PRESS RELEASE : Kerala Blasters took a massive step towards the semi-finals of the Hero Indian Super League after setting aside the challenge of FC Pune City 2-1 for their fourth consecutive victory at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Kochi, on Friday.
Kerala Blasters were hammered 0-5 by Mumbai City FC in their previous match, played away in Mumbai, but backed by a capacity crowd at Nehru Stadium in Kochi, Kerala Blasters returned to winning ways with goals from Duckens Nazon (7th minute) and Aaron Hughes (57th minute). Anibal Zurdo managed to pull one back for the visitors in the second minute of added time but that came too late for the Pune City.
The victory took Kerala Blasters to the third spot with 18 points from 12 matches, the same as Atletico de Kolkata who have a better goal difference. Kerala Blasters now need only a win from their remaining two matches. Kerala will travel to Kolkata next to play ATK on 29 November and will return home to host NorthEast United on 4th December.
Losing their second consecutive match, Pune City are placed fifth with 15 points from 13 matches and it will be difficult for the team coached by Antonio Habas to qualify with just a match in hand. Habas will have a week’s break before they travel to Kolkata to play against his former club on 2 December.
Kerala Blasters coach Steve Coppell made several changes to the team that got clobbered in Mumbai with marquee player Aaron Hughes back into the squad, alongside Kervens Belfort, Duckens Nazon, Mohammed Rafi and goalkeeper Sandip Nandy. Pune made three changes to their side but, playing at home, Kerala started the match on the front foot.
The home team took the lead in the seventh minute itself as Duckens Nazon capitalised on a defensive lapse. A goal-kick by Pune goalkeeper Edel Bete saw Hughes win the ball from a header. Pune defender D Ravanan then failed to control the ball and Nazon, who was lurking nearby, pounced on the opportunity as he raced clear, set aside the challenge of Gouramangi Singh and fired past the Pune goalkeeper.
Pune tried to fight their way back but Kerala were always in control of the proceedings. The pace of Kervens Belfort, Nazon and CK Vineeth was always going to be difficult for Pune City and it was in tune with the proceedings that Kerala enhanced their lead in the second session. A corner in the 57th minute was only partially cleared by Pune City and Vineeth chased it down on the left, sending a cross to the far post. The Pune defence shockingly stood still, allowing Aaron enough time to rush and head home from point blank range.
The goal crippled Pune City, who however managed to pull a goal back in stoppage time. A cleverly taken free kick saw Pitu touch the ball to set up Anibal Zurdo, who blasted it on to the far post, past goalkeeper Sandip Nandy. The goal, however, came too late and there was no time for Pune City to get anything out of the match.

FC GOA NEEDS FULL POINTS AGAINST ATLETICO
PREVIEW - 23.11.16: Atletico De Kolkata will face the challange of FC Goa in an away encounter at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Fatorda-Goa, on Thursday evening. This seems to be the most important match for both the teams in the current edition of ISL as they require a win in order to earn a berth for the semi final. Though FC Goa are at the bottom of the league table but they have still have a chance to qualify as a team in the final four if they win the last four remaining matches in the league.
Atletico De Kolkata are currently placed at the third position in the league table with 15 points from 11 matches needs to earn points in order to consolidate their position in the league table. While interacying in the pre match media meeting at Goa, the Spanish coach Jose Molina said, We wanted to win (against Chennaiyin) and we put our full energy trying to win but it's okay.
We have got one point and it is always good to add points. Yes, we prefer to win but with this point we are third on the table and we have just got to continue to keep fighting and trying to win.” Molina was optimistic against the Goan franchisee but he will miss the service of the South African striker Sameehg Doutie and the central defender Henrique Sereno following injuries.
The prime task of FC Goa is to break the record and win against the Kolkata franchisee at Fatorda. FC Goa have never defeated the visitors, Atletico De Kolkata since the start of ISL in 2014. ISL PRESS RELEASE : Mumbai City FC became the first team to qualify for semi-finals of Hero Indian Super League after a thoroughly deserving 2-0 win over Chennaiyin FC at Mumbai Football Arena, Mumbai, on Wednesday. Mumbai City scored once in each session through Matias Defederico (32nd minute) and Krisztian Vadocz (60th minute) to earn a comfortable win and a place in the play-offs with a match to spare for the first time.
Mumbai City FC are on top with 22 points from 13 matches and even if they lose their concluding clash against Delhi Dynamos on December 3, they are assured of a top four finish. FC Goa (11 points from 11 matches), Chennaiyin FC (14 points from 12 matches) and FC Pune City (15 points from 12 matches) cannot overtake Mumbai’s tally of 22 points even if they win all their remaining matches, while NorthEast United FC and Kerala Blasters play amongst each other later, which means atleast one of these two teams will fall behind Mumbai when they drop points.
Coach Alexandre Guimaraes will be pleased with the victory which comes following a 5-0 drubbing of Mumbai City. The Costa Rican coach decided to persist with the same squad and they delivered in style. Defending champions Chennaiyin FC were subdued and were never a good match. They lacked numbers whenever they attacked as Davide Succi was left isolated upfront.
Mumbai created several good chances and should have won by a much bigger margin. Sunil Chhetri, Defederico and Diego Forlan were all combining well and Chhetri went close in the 14th minute after trying to flick the ball past Chennaiyin FC goalkeeper Karanjit Singh.
The hosts moved up in the 32nd minute after Chhetri and Vadocz exchanged passes on the edge of the box, freeing up some space for the India captain to move into the box. His cross inside the goalmouth got a deflection and Defederico had no problem slamming the ball into the goal. Mumbai’s second goal in second session was a stunner from Vadocz. A cross from Diego Forlan saw Vadocz chest it down, escape the player marking him and smash a half-volley that beat the rival goalkeeper all ends up.
The scoreline could have been even bigger had Chhetri converted two chances from good positions. His first miss was in the 80th minute when Forlan did well to send an overhead ball which Chennaiyin defender Bernard Mendy missed but Chhetri was wayward with his attempt. A minute later, Forlan fed Chhetri on the platter again but this time too Chhetri’s attempt was way off target. Defending champions Chennaiyin FC rarely troubled Mumbai goalkeeper Amrinder Singh, except for stray long rangers.

ISL PRESS RELEASE : NorthEast United FC breathed new life into their dying Hero Indian Super League campaign with a dramatic 1-0 victory over FC Pune City at Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Guwahati, on Tuesday.
NorthEast United had gone six matches without a win, losing four of them. With just two points from their last six matches they were on the verge of exit until Ivory Coast midfielder Romaric scored from a stunning free-kick in the 81st minute to leave FC Pune City's campaign in tatters.
The victory helped NorthEast United accumulate 14 points from 11 matches and move to the sixth spot. With three matches still left to be played and the jinx finally broken, coach Nelo Vingada will feel more confident. Pune City on the otherhand have 15 points from 12 matches and will have to win their next two games to be assured of a place in the play-offs.
The NorthEast-Pune battle was a cagey affair particularly in the first session when neither team enjoyed clear cut chances. Momar Ndoye was the only player who provided some entertainment when he danced his way on the left but could not beat goalkeeper Subrata Paul from a narrow angle. Midfielder Jonatan Lucca also missed a good chance from just outside the box when the ball fell for him nicely but he could only shoot waywardly with his left-foot.
For NorthEast United, there was hardly any chance of note with Katsumi Yusa’s attempt on goal which goalkeeper Edel Bete saved without much difficulty being the only shot on target. In the second session, FC Pune City came out all guns blazing and were unlucky not to take the lead.
In the 69th minute, Lenny Rodrigues let go of a screamer from 35 yards out, even beating goalkeeper Paul but the crossbar stood in the way. Spanish midfielder Pitu then tried his luck after Izumi Arata had chested the ball down for him inside the danger zone but goalkeeper Paul measured up to the challenge with a stunning one-handed reflex save.
NorthEast United got the match winner out of nowhere in the 81st minute. The hosts won a free-kick just outside the box and Romaric stepped up to take it. The Ivory Cost midfielder used his left foot to devastating effect as his curling free-kick found the top corner of the net, past a diving Edel Bete.
