ISL PRESS RELEASE : ATK held their nerves to defeat NorthEast United FC 1-0 in a vital away victory in the Hero Indian Super League clash at Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Guwahati, on Friday.

The victory lifts them to sixth place after nine matches and suddenly gives them hope, and takes some wind off the sails of NorthEast United FC, who had beaten FC Goa in their previous encounter.

Zequinha was the star of the show, striking in the 73rd minute to give his side the lead and the winner. He had been threatening for a while before the ball graciously fell to him after a period of pressure from ATK. The Portuguese hammered in a volley into the far corner, his connection too sweet to not find the back of the net.
NORTH EAST UNITED 0-1 ATK

If the first half was a slow affair, the second one started with a bang. Danilo Lopes made easy work of Jordi Montel before taking a stinging shot from outside the box. Debjit Majumder was equal to the task though, making a breath-taking fingertip save to deny the hosts. Montel made his presence felt at the other end though, when his header was a whisker wide. He then released Zequinha on the left to cross for Robin Singh but Sambinha was in the way to stop the Indian striker from scoring.

Lopes wasn't done making Montel look like a bad defender. He was at the end of a Nirmal Chhetri long ball and Montel allowed the attacker to run in behind. His first time effort was as audacious as it was close to going in the back of the net.

Zequinha and Lopes were ruling the second half. As the game went into end-to-end mode, the former cut in, like he so often does, and forced a fine save from TP Rehenesh. It was becoming inexplicable how the match was still goalless when Zequinha struck to break the deadlock.

The opening exchanges saw a well-drilled NorthEast keep possession even though it was meaningless, attempting to draw out ATK rather than take the attacking initiative.

It was only after Malemngamba Meitei started showing his ability to run with the ball and deliver that NorthEast grew in confidence going forward. First, he produced a fine run before being halted, and was at it again with a good delivery which ATK had to be alert to clear. Debjit Majumder's howler almost cost ATK when the goalkeeper needlessly came out for a ball which Tom Thorpe was seeing off - got into a mess with his teammate - before Thorpe cleared away.

ATK broke forward in the 24th minute through Zequinha's neat run and shot which sailed just over the crossbar. Meitei then threatened again for NorthEast and this time his delivery found Sambinha, whose header was woefully directed wide. Then, within the space of seven chaotic minutes for NorthEast, ATK produced two lovely chances. Jayesh Rane's shot was blocked after an exquisite through ball from Ryan Taylor and then at the stroke of half time, Zequinha blasted it over again when he had the time and space to pick his spot. However, he would eventually deliver to put ATK out of their misery.

ISL PRESS RELEASE : Bengaluru FC’s little genius turned up with a big goal as the Blues beat ATK 1-0 to go top of the table at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, in Bengaluru, on Sunday. Sunil Chhetri’s twenty-five yard piledriver in the 40th minute got Albert Roca’s side back to winning ways at home in what was a commanding show through the game.

' While the Blues kept control of the game throughout the 90 minutes, a moment of brilliance from a man who has always delivered on big occasions, helped Bengaluru leapfrog Chennaiyin FC (17 pts) into the top spot. The southern neighbors, had earlier slipped conceding a 90th minute equalizer to Delhi Dynamos, allowing the Blues (18 points) to move to the summit.

' The Blues wasted little time in letting ATK know that they were going to dictate play from the get-go and a flurry of corners in the first ten minutes put Teddy Sheringham’s side under pressure. Juan Gonzalez came close on a couple of occasions but fired wide.
BENGALURU FC 1-0 ATK

Bengaluru’s best chance came in the 32nd minute and it was the big Spaniard again who was in the thick of things. A free kick routine saw Dimas Delgado pick out Gonzalez whose looping header beat Debjit Majumder only to bounce of the post and back into play. Rahul Bheke had a stab from close but his shot was cleared off the line as ATK kept treading on thin ice.

' But for all the intricate passing, it was a moment of genius from distance that put the Blues ahead. ATK midfielder Conor Thomas made a hash of a pass and ended up picking out Chhetri who needed one look at goal before hitting home a rasping strike from 25-yards out to send the Fortress into a tizzy.

' Earlier, Roca named an unchanged XI from the side that beat Kerala Blasters in Kochi. ATK, meanwhile, had three former Bengaluru players on the pitch in Robin Singh, Shankar Sampingiraj and Keegan Pereira.

' ATK rang in two changes to start the second half with, bringing in striker Bipin Singh and Ryan Taylor for Zequinha and Sampingiraj. Keane led the hunt for the equaliser with a shot from outside the box, but Gurpreet Singh Sandhu dived on his right to keep out.

' Bengaluru’s midfield trio of Erik Paartalu, Dimas Delgado and Edu Garcia were fantastic on the night, linking defence and attack with seamless ease. Roca’s back four too were tight with Subhasish Bose and Harmanjot Khabra pegging back the ATK defence with frequent overlapping runs as Gonzalez and Bheke were solid as ever.

' The Blues could have killed the tie off in the 79th minute when substitute Braulio Nobrega, on for Miku, made a good run to get past Tom Thorpe. His attempt from inside the box though went just wide. Moments later, Paartalu picked out Edu Garcia at the far post on the left, who squared the ball across the goalmouth. Braulio, once again timed his run well, but was beaten to the ball by Jordi Montel who managed to clear for a corner.

THIS IS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE HISTORY OF INDIAN FOOTBALL A MATCH STARTS TODAY AND WILL END TOMORROW
** The match is likely to start at 10.40 pm
** FC Goa reached Kolkata at around 9.45 pm and are heading towards the stadium .
**Match is delayed due to some unavoidable circumstances. FC Goa could not avail the flight from Goa to Kolkata reportedly due to plane crash at Goa's Dabolim International Airport on Wednesday.

Two goals within the first 25 minutes of a breakneck first half resulted in an entertaining 1-1 draw between ATK and FC Goa at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata, on Wednesday. Robbie Keane and Ferran Corominas found the back of the net in an entertaining first half, but despite some good attempts on goal, there was no success in the second session of the Hero Indian Super League encounter. It was brilliant first 45 minutes of end-to-end football. ATK created three openings in the first five minutes, and one of them translated into a goal when Ryan Taylor's freekick found an unmarked Robbie Keane, who headed it downwards and into the back of the net to set the tone. Goa rode the initial storm and a long-range curler from Mandar Rao Desai woke the visitors up. The next few minutes, however, had the referee in the limelight. First, he waved away a penalty shout from Manuel Lanzarote and then allowed play to go on despite ATK blocking a quick freekick from a yard out and finally denied Goa a penalty when Brandon Fernandes was brought down inside the box by Prabir Das, who was already on a yellow card. He gave a freekick instead, from which Ashutosh Mehta had to make a last-ditch block. ATK could have increased their lead but Taylor’s haste made waste. Minutes later, Goa taught ATK a lesson on how football should always be played on the whistle. ATK expected the referee to stop the match after the assistant had his flag up, but the man in charge waved play on and Goa caught the home side napping. Lanzarote found Corominas, who rounded Debjit and smacked it past Prabir's outstretched foot. Keane and Brandon then had shots blocked at both ends from a tight angle before Edu Bedia stormed through midfield and took an impressive shot which kissed the far post and went out of play. The second half was slightly cautious, apart from a few moments of brilliance - one of which came from Corominas. He turned past two men and escaped down the byline before laying it on a platter for Mandar. The Goan couldn't convert first-time in what was the easiest chance of the match. ATK goalkeeper Debjit Majumder was brilliant as Goa piled on the pressure, beating away numerous shots. ATK came to life in the last 10 minutes and attacked the visitors, who arrived here after a traveling nightmare which resulted in the match kicking off at 10.45pm. Jayesh Rane's snapshot didn't have enough power, Taylor's cross for Keane was intercepted and Zequinha also had a go from distance but it was just over. Until Keane struck late in the second half, the teams looked destined to share points. But as it turned out, ATK went on to win their second game in success, while Dynamos slumped to yet another defeat to stay rooted to the bottom of the points table.

In the 78th minute, a lovely cushion header from Bipin Singh found Keane on the edge of the box. The former Tottenham striker then showed his class to create an opening for himself with some neat footwork before slotting the ball past Arnab Das Sharma. After a bright start to the game, both sides turned sloppy in possession. But Keane, who missed a few games due to injury, was influential for the home side throughout the game.
ATK 1-0 DELHI DYNAMOS

Five minutes into the game, a drop of the shoulder gave Keane enough space inside the Delhi box to find Jayesh Rane but his header went just wide without troubling the goalkeeper. A few minutes later, ATK had a strong penalty shout. Prabir Das went galloping down the right right wing and his attempted cross was handled by Pratik Chowdhary inside the box. But the referee showed no interest and the game went on.

At the other end, Romeo Fernandes had a great chance to give Delhi the lead at the half-hour mark. After some good work in the penalty box, the attacker took a shot at goal. But, unfortunately, his effort was deflected off an ATK defender and went way above the crossbar.

In the second half, Keane could have opened the scoring for Teddy Sheringham’s side in the game that saw a few chances created. Jayesh Rane forwarded a quality ball to Robbie Keane who attempted a shot at goal. Arnab pulled off a good save to deny Keane from scoring his maiden ISL goal.

ISL PRESS RELEASE : A spectacular save late into added time by Debjit Majumder helped ATK to a 1-0 victory over Mumbai City FC in the Hero Indian Super League at Mumbai Sports Arena on Sunday. The victory, fashioned by a moment of calmness from Robin Singh in the 54th minute, was the defending champions’ first of the season.

Mumbai City FC had come into the game hoping to take all three points to leapfrog local rivals FC Pune City into the top four position in the ISL table. ATK, on the other hand, entered the contest as the only team without a bag full of three points. But on Sunday night, Teddy Sheringham's boys broke the shackles with a fine display against the spirited home team. And, yes, ATK are no longer at the bottom of the table. NorthEast and Delhi Dynamos are ninth and last, respectively.

MUMBAI CITY FC 0-1 ATK

In the first half, Mumbai City No.1 Amrinder Singh had to make a couple of smart saves to keep ATK attackers at bay. In the 37th minutes of the game, Alexandre Guimaraes side had earned a corner but ATK defended their line well and it almost resulted in a goal at the other end. Zequinha made a bursting run from his own half and forced Singh to make a save at his near post.

The Portuguese winger gave Mumbai City defenders a torrid time the entire night. Mumbai defender Mehraj-Ud-Din Wadoo, who was playing right-back was finding it really hard to deal with Zequinha’s raw pace.

The second half began much like the first one. The Mumbai City FC goalkeeper was again called into action five minutes after the restart. This time it was Robbie Keane’s turn test Singh.

In the 54th minute, ATK finally had their goal and it was Zequinha who created the opening. After another purposeful run down the wing, the Portuguese sent in a cross into the Mumbai box which was turned in to the goal by Robin Singh at near-post.

Stung by the goal, Mumbai City FC responded well. Everton Santos’s cross in the 66th minute found Balwant Singh at the far post. The striker's header was only parried by ATK goalkeeper Debjit Majumder which resulted in a melee inside the box. Alas, Mumbai failed to do anything significant.

Sheringham’s side was defending resolutely to hold on to their one-goal advantage. However, the home side still managed to create a few more chances and it can be said they worked hard enough to earn at least a point.

In added time, Guimaraes’s side had a glorious opportunity to snatch a late draw but ATK goalkeeper Majumder came up with a heroic save to deny the home side. Achille Emana’s drilled cross was parried by Majumder into the path of Pranjal Bhumij at the far post. The winger went for goal but Majumder got up in time to cap a fine save.

ISL PRESS RELEASE : Jamshedpur play out another goalless draw, this time against champions ATK

Jamshedpur fc 0-0 ATK

Jamshedpur, December 1: Jamshedpur FC played out their third goalless draw in a row, this time against ATK at home on Friday. Bipin Singh, Jerry Mawhmingthanga and Njazi Kuqi all missed chances but goalkeepers Jussi Jaaskelainen and Subrata Paul were superb on the day.

It was a cagey game that left managers Teddy Sheringham and Steve Coppell winless in the fourth season of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL).

It took almost half an hour for the first meaningful attack of the day as Tom Thorpe lost the ball to Kervens Belfort, whose shot rebounded and eventually fell to Jerry. The youngster’s stinging effort hit the side-netting. It was just the attack needed to add a spark to the proceedings.

ATK then had the ball in the net via Hitesh Sharma but the enterprising midfielder was ruled offside. Alas, the premature celebration led to more frustration for the Kolkata side.

Jerry was at it again when he took a low shot at the near post where former Premier League goalkeeper Jaaskelainen was there to effect an excellent save. ATK certainly lost some creativity in the midfield when they lost Eugeneson Lyngdoh to injury before half-time.

Prabir Das swung in a dangerous ball towards Robin Singh whose flick would have found Bipin, but this time it was Paul's chance to shine with some brilliant anticipation.

Faroukh Chowdhury’s shot was palmed away by Jaaskelainen on the hour mark as Coppell replaced Belfort with Izu Azuka in search of a goal. At the other end, Paul was alert to a shot from distance from Conor Thomas as ATK also started throwing bodies forward.

But despite the action, there was no goal to relish for the 23,891 fans who had turned up on Jamshedpur’s home debut. As the game died out, Kuqi got the best chance of the match when Bipin’s ball found him at the far post. Even with time and space, the Finnish striker completely miscued his effort.

There were no more efforts in the last 10 minutes from either side. Both are winless this season. ATK now travel to Chennai and Jamshedpur will make the trip to Delhi.

GOAL CONCEDED : 8

In the pre match press conference at Kochi the Dutch coach of Kerala Blasters, Rene Meulensteen said, "I have always told players that they should figure out who their favourite players are in their best position, see their clips and try and figure out what they're doing right. If you analyse the top players, the reason they stand out is that they don't take touches that they don't need and that creates a different rhythm and speed of play. Hopefully we can get that integrated into the team and see it in the games we play. It's not easy, of course, but that is what we're aiming for."
