ISL PRESS RELEASE : Emiliano Alfaro scored a winner in the 93rd minute as FC Pune City and Mumbai City FC produced some brilliant end-to-end football at the Balewadi on Wednesday night in a dramatic Maharashtra derby which ended 2-1 in favour of the home side.
Diego Carlos scampered away after Mumbai's high defensive line was caught out of position three minutes into injury time and laid it off perfectly for Alfaro to tap into the back of the net and break the hearts of Mumbai City fans. Pune were trailing when Balwant Singh cut in from the right to send a stunning shot into the corner of the net in the 15th minute.
The goal came after Gerson Vieira's brilliant curling effort was saved by Kamaljit Singh, the Brazilian was man of the match, but wasted a glorious opportunity to win it for Mumbai City when his header from point blank range somehow missed the target.
Mumbai City were in the ascendancy after opening the scoring, but Pune slowly worked their way back into the contest. Their efforts were finally rewarded when Raju Gaikwad's clumsy challenge on Diego resulted in a penalty which Alfaro converted with ease. With just 18 minutes of regulation time left, Pune pushed men forward. Jonatan Lucca's stinging effort was kept out by Amrinder and Marcelinho couldn't play Kean Lewis through with the match in its dying seconds, but the home side had the last laugh with a sucker punch goal from which Mumbai couldn't recover.
There were chances at both ends with the goalkeepers coming under tremendous pressure. Vieira’s low shot awkwardly bounced off Kamaljit but his teammate Lalchhuanmawia Fanai cleared the ball with the dangerous Balwant lurking to tap in the rebound. A total of 24 shots were taken in the match, with a mammoth 15 of them being on target. But it was everything that one expects from a derby, including full blooded tackles. Both teams committed a combined 34 fouls as they fought for the three points.
Pune have now won two games in a row after their heroics in Kolkata against ATK. They are now sitting pretty in 2nd place after three matches, but top of the table Bengaluru FC have a match in hand. For Mumbai City, the result means they are in 6th place having lost two games out of three. But all the teams below them are yet to play their third match - which makes the result in Pune all the more important.
The Stallions host Chennaiyin FC next while Mumbai City have a difficult trip to Kerala Blasters.

ISL PRESS RELEASE : Mumbai City FC struck late to edge past FC Goa 2-1 in a fortune-fluctuating Hero Indian Super League (ISL) clash at the Mumbai Football Arena here on Saturday.
It was Mumbai City’s first win after an opening round loss against Bengaluru FC, and the first loss for high-flying FC Goa who had defeated Chennaiyin FC.
After a barren first 45 minutes where both sides had chances to draw first blood, Everton Santos put Mumbai City ahead in the 59th minute, only for Manuel Arana to draw level in the 83rd. But just when fans were thinking the match would end in a stalemate, substitute Thiago Dos Santos scored the winner in the 88th minute.
The frenetic end to the clash and the two goals in the last seven minutes provided plenty of entertainment, in contrast to the first half where no goals were scored.
Mumbai City’s opening goal was a gift from FC Goa as goalkeeper and captain Laxmikant Kattimani failed to clear a regulation back-pass at the hour mark. Defender Chinglensana Singh had passed the ball back to his goalkeeper, hoping he would clear it away, but instead he allowed Everton Santos to charge at him, and as he went for a slide, the ball deflected off him into the goal.
FC Goa didn’t expect the setback at that stage and tried to fight their way back. They managed to find the back of the net after a brilliant one-two with Ferran Corominas finishing it off, but the goal was ruled offside.
Goa’s disappointment turned into joy in the 83rd minute. Arana scored the equaliser as Seriton Fernandes lobbed a long ball in his direction and the Spanish attacker rushed forward to bury it past Mumbai’s excellent goalkeeper Amrinder Singh.
There was one more late twist to the game as Mumbai grabbed the winner in the 88th minute. Santos did all the hard work and found Thiago on the right. The substitute skipped past two defenders and then scored from an acute angle past Kattimani.
Earlier in the first half, FC Goa had plenty of ball possession but couldn’t create too many goal-scoring chances. The best chance came in added time when Corominas was denied by the Mumbai goalkeeper with a stunning reflex save. Mumbai too had their chances but Balwant Singh lacked sharpness in front of goal.

24.11.2017: ISL PRESS RELEASE : Kerala Blasters FC played out their second 0-0 draw as Jamshedpur FC frustrated the home side, leaving the Yellow Army still waiting to witness a goal in their Hero Indian Super League (ISL) game in Kochi on Friday. The Blasters were playing their second game at home within a week but that advantage was first nullified by ATK on 17 November, with Jamshedpur following suit in a cagey match.
In a way, it was a taste of Kerala Blasters's former system, which was based around stifling the opponent; this time, the same manager, Steve Coppell, did the same for another team in a return that will leave him asking for more but still won't disappoint him.
Former Manchester United star Dimitar Berbatov lasted the full 90 minutes again and had an acrobatic effort go waste at the near post. But the best chance for the Blasters fell to CK Vineeth after Canadian Iain Hume dug out a cross to pick him from the right wing. Vineeth's heading opportunity went begging -- as did so many other half chances which didn't materialise due to the lack of a quality final ball in the attacking third.
The Blasters started the match in typical fashion with a quick tempo and feeding off the energy of the crowd, but Jamshedpur did well to weather the initial storm and countered a few times themselves. Their best effort though, was palmed away not once but twice in quick succession by Paul Rachubka. It all started with Memo's stinging effort from a free kick, and once that was seen away by a diving Rachubka, he had it in him to get back up and keep the rebound effort from Jerry Mawihmingthanga out as well.
Rachubka was alert in added time as well as Jamshedpur finished the game stronger. Trindad Goncalves's brilliant cross found Kervens Belfort, but his header was incredibly saved by the 36-year-old goalkeeper.
The first half had its fair share of entertainment as Rene Meulensteen's quick attacking style is steadily making progress for the Blasters, but they petered out in the second period, allowing Jamshedpur the chance to hit them on the break. That reduced the half to a mish-mash of mistimed tackles and efforts from a distance. But only one of these was really troublesome with Courage Pekuson's shot narrowly missing the target. In a way, it was a roundup of the match itself which will be remembered more for the goalkeeping heroics of Rachubka than the missed efforts from all the attackers on the pitch.

ISL PRESS RELEASE : A revamped Chennaiyin FC got the result they were looking for as they swept aside the challenge of NorthEast United FC 3-0 in their Hero Indian Super League (ISL) clash at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai, on Thursday.
Chennaiyin FC had lost their opening battle against FC Goa after conceding three first-half goals. Coach Gregory John had admitted that he got his formation and choice of players wrong. For the next clash, he made four changes, handing starts to Gregory Nelson, Francis Fernandes, Bikramjiit Singh and Dhanpal Ganesh, and the new-look squad started firing straightway.
The man who starred for Chennaiyin FC was a familiar face. Raphael Augusto has been with the club since 2015 and was at the heart of the first two goals. It was his powerful attempt on goal that forced NorthEast defender Abdul Hakku to deflect into his own goal in the 11th minute and then Raphael himself got on to the scoresheet with a fine attempt from outside the danger zone in the 24th minute.
Substitute Mohammed Rafi made it 3-0 with a goal in the 84th minute to hand Chennaiyin FC their first victory. NorthEast United had the first chance of the match as Chennaiyin goalkeeper Karanjit Singh carelessly gave the ball away in the fourth minute. The ball fell to Seiminlen Doungel whose curling effort from the left sailed over the crossbar.
Francis Fernandes then missed from close range for Chennaiyin but the hosts didn’t have to wait for long to break the deadlock. Raphael moved inside from the left and with plenty of space available tried his luck from a distance. The ball struck Abdul Hakku’s head and entered into his own goal.
Chennaiyin made it 2-0 in the 24th minute. Midfielder Bikramjit Singh started this move with a diagonal ball which Nelson headed for Raphael who finished it off with a powerful left-footed attempt. NorthEast United coach Joao de Deus was forced into two substitutions inside the first half as he introduced Halicharan Narzary and Luis Alfonso for Seiminlen Doungel and an injured Odair Fortes. But the visitors didn’t create any chance in the first half.
Even in the second session, NorthEast United were hardly in the game and looked a far cry from the side that dominated Jamshedpur FC in their opening game. Instead, Chennaiyin FC continued to grow and they added to their goal tally through substitute Mohammed Rafi who pounced on the chance after Jaime Gavilan’s free-kick had ricocheted off the goalpost.
