ISL PRESS RELEASE : A red hot hat-trick from Roy Krishna powered ATK to a 3-1 win over Odisha FC in a Hero Indian Super League clash at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan here on Saturday. After a goalless first half, Krishna’s brilliance (49’, 60’, 63’) saw ATK surge to a 3-0 lead. Manuel Onwu pulled one back for Odisha (67’) but it turned out to be just a consolation as ATK saw the game out quite comfortably.

The three points see ATK go top, tied on points with FC Goa with 33 points from 16 matches. For Odisha, a third loss on the bounce has dealt a huge blow to their play-off hopes, which is now hanging by a thread. ATK made an energetic start to the game with Prabir Das and Krishna leading the way. The former sent in a dangerous cross into the box after the latter set him free, but Edu Garcia could not latch on to it.

Odisha slowly got to grips with the pace of the game, with Xisco Hernandez heavily involved. But alert defending from the home side meant Odisha could not fashion any clear-cut chances. ATK continued to pose questions themselves but were not able to make an impact in the final third.

However, the action livened up in the second half with Krishna running riot. He put ATK into the lead within four minutes of the restart after moving away from Narayan Das to meet a corner from Javier Hernandez. His sweetly struck shot at the far post gave no chance whatsoever to Odisha goalkeeper Francisco Dorronsoro.

Odisha tried to mount a response and almost hit back immediately when Narayan picked out Xisco’s run into the box. But the Spaniard’s first-time hit was straight at ATK goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharja. Krishna made sure Odisha would regret that miss at the hour mark. A quick counter-attack saw Mandi Sosa send a long ball over the defence for Krishna to attack. The Fijian striker outpaced Carlos Delgado before executing a brilliant dink over a stranded Dorronsoro.

Three minutes later, Krishna struck again to complete his hat-trick. Marcos Tebar gave away the ball on the right-wing to Jayesh Rane who picked out Krishna with a cross. The striker controlled it brilliantly before firing it in on the turn to register his 13th goal of the season. Odisha were given hope of pulling off an unlikely comeback when Onwu directed Shubham Sarangi’s cross from the right past Bhattacharja in the 67th minute to make it 3-1.However, ATK managed to slow down the pace of the game and see off Odisha’s response to go top of the table and confirm their place in the playoff

ISL PRESS RELEASE : A brilliant Roy Krishna brace (2', 75') helped ATK ease past an ineffective Jamshedpur FC 3-0 in a Hero Indian Super League clash at the JRD Tata Sports Complex here on Monday. Edu Garcia (59') also added his name to the scoresheet as the visitors secured their ninth win of the season. ATK are now level on points (30) at the top of the table with Goa after 15 matches. Jamshedpur have seen their play-off hopes virtually end and are now seventh with 16 points.

ATK came out all-guns-blazing and broke the deadlock just two minutes into the game. The visitors' high-voltage start was rewarded when an under-pressure Sandip Mandi chose to play a weak pass to Memo Moura. Roy Krishna was alert to the situation and the Fijian striker intercepted, charged towards the goal and slotted past Subrata Paul with ease.

Paul was next in line to err while trying to play out from the back. The goalkeeper tried to take a touch and kick the ball after collecting a back-pass from Memo but hit straight to Krishna. This time though, the striker sent his effort straight back at the keeper. It was one-way traffic in the first half as ATK continued to threaten Jamshedpur's goal. In the 26th minute, Edu outfoxed his marker and got into a one-on-one against Paul but the veteran custodian charged off his line and produced a crucial save.

After the half an hour mark, Paul's desire to build-up play from the back went awry again. His pass, which was easily cut off, landed at the feet of Krishna who squared it to Edu. The Spaniard shifted his feet and shot but was denied by Joyner Lourenco at the goal line. Jamshedpur's fortunes went from bad to worse at the start of the second half when the referee ordered an early bath for Jitendra Singh. The defender failed to get the ball in a sliding challenge that halted Jayesh Rane's counter-attack and received his second yellow card.

Edu, who was ATK's creative source throughout the first half, turned up at the end of a fine counter-attacking move to double his team's lead close to the hour-mark. The Spanish midfielder initiated the counter by finding Krishna ahead of him, then charged into the box to receive the striker's cushioned return and finished into the net with aplomb. With 15 minutes left in the game, Krishna sealed three points for his team. Prabir Das forwarded a pass to Edu Garcia who released a terrific through ball for Krishna who gave Paul no chance to make a save. Jamshedpur had no response to ATK's relentlessness all over the pitch and succumbed to their second consecutive defeat by a three-goal margin.

ISL PRESS RELEASE : A last-gasp header from substitute Balwant Singh saw ATK pip NorthEast United 1-0 and go top of the Hero Indian Super League ladder at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan here on Monday. The hosts created plenty of chances but were wasteful until an injury-time strike from substitute Balwant proved to be the difference. Despite his absence from the touchline, Antonio Habas' side return to the top of the table, level on points with FC Goa who also have 27 points from 14 matches. The Highlanders remain ninth with 11 points from as many games.

In-form ATK striker Roy Krishna had the NorthEast defence on red alert early on with his dangerous runs off the ball. After a couple of unsuccessful runs down the right flank, Prabir Das delivered an excellent cross in his third try and it almost found Krishna's run into the box, until Kai Heering made a crucial interception to deny the Fijian a shot on target. The visitors had their first sight of the ATK goal minutes later. Having received the ball outside the box, midfielder Lalengmawia beat his marker, entered the box and sent his effort just wide.

The tempo of the game slowed down after the early attempts at both ends. ATK looked more likely to open the scoring but couldn't find a way past an organized NorthEast defence. Both goalkeepers were called into action just before the break. Edu Garcia slid a clever through-ball into the box for Krishna in the 39th minute. The ATK striker's shot from a one-on-one situation was saved by Subhasish Roy Chowdhury with his feet.At the stroke of half-time, a Ninthoinganba Meetei cross met Martin Chaves whose header from inside the box forced a fingertip save from goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya.

Robert Jarni hoped to gain a foothold in the game by bringing on Jose Leudo and Federico Gallego as the teams walked out for the second half but the hosts continued to threaten. The influential Garcia once again produced a brilliant through-ball into the box, this time for Michael Soosairaj who ran in behind the defence and attempted to poke a finish into the net. With the keeper well beaten, Mislav Komorski's goalline clearance kept the scoreline intact.

Defender Pritam Kotal was next in line to be presented with another big chance to score in the 68th minute. A Javier Hernandez free-kick caused chaos inside the box and the ball looped towards Kotal whose impatient strike flew over the bar. There were chances for both teams to settle the matter towards the end. Nikhil Kadam’s through-ball almost sent Gallego through on goal but for Arindam’s quick intervention. At the other end, Mislav Komorski came up with two crucial interventions to deny Krishna and Prabir Das.

Just when it looked like the teams would have to share the spoils, substitute Balwant produced a match-winner in the last of the four added minutes. The striker, who came off the bench for Edu Garcia in the 90th minute and was left unmarked inside the box for a Hernandez corner-kick, headed the ball into the net to the delight of the home crowd.

ISL PRESS RELEASE : ATK emerged 2-0 victors against FC Goa in a closely-fought top-of-the-table clash in the Hero Indian Super League at the Salt Lake Stadium here on Saturday. After a goalless first half, Pritam Kotal (47’) headed ATK into a lead before a late goal from Jayesh Rane (88’) sealed the deal, with Goa left to rue all the chances they wasted in the second -half. The victory takes ATK level on points (24) at the top of the table with FC Goa. It also serves as a measure of revenge for ATK who had been beaten 2-1 when they travelled to Goa for the reverse fixture.

There were early threats at both ends with Javier Hernandez sending a strike wide after holding off his marker using his strength. At the other end, Manvir Singh cut in from the right flank and sent his effort inches wide of the frame.Goa asked questions after dealing with the early pressure from ATK. Ferran Corominas went down inside the box after his excellent run was halted by Sumit Rathi with a sliding challenge but the referee shrugged away appeals for a penalty.

Goa custodian Mohamad Nawaz played his part in keeping the scoreline intact with a good save to stop Hernandez' long-range free-kick midway through the first half. Jobby Justin's close-range header from the resulting corner was also safely collected by the relieved custodian.

ATK's work rate helped keep the Goan midfield and attack in check as the visitors struggled to create clear-cut chances. The hosts weren't much better in the final third but had their fair share of chances to score but the game went into the break without goals.ATK struck a huge blow right after the restart and pumped up the home crowd. Roy Krishna latched onto a free-kick on the right-hand side inside the box and chipped the ball into the centre from the byline. An unmarked Pritam Kotal got in between the Goa centre-backs and nodded the ball into the net.

Buoyed by the goal, ATK pushed forward and nearly doubled their minutes later. Jobby ran down the left flank, held off his marker well and crossed into the box for Hernandez whose shot flew over the bar.Goa took control of the game towards the end and Hugo Boumous ran the show from the midfield as the visitors chased an equaliser. The French midfielder made an excellent run down the left flank and found Seiminlen Doungel free inside the box in the 70th minute but the Indian forward's shot was parried away by an alert Arindam Bhattacharya.

ATK had another golden chance to double their lead before the end of the game. A low cross from the right by Roy Krishna in the 82nd minute set Jayesh Rane up with an empty goal in front of him but the forward blasted the ball over the bar from close-range. Rane made amends for his big miss by scoring ATK's second goal in the dying embers of the game. Krishna's chested a long pass, beat his marker on his way towards the byline and crossed into the centre for Rane who executed a sliding finish into the net to put the result beyond doubt

04.01.2020 : MUMBAI CITY FC 0-2 ATK (FT.)

ISL PRESS RELEASE : ATK brought Mumbai City FC’s six-game unbeaten run to an end after a 2-0 win at the Mumbai Football Arena here on Saturday.First-half goals from Pronay Halder (29’) and Michael Soosairaj (43’) were enough as Mumbai City were left to rue the chances they missed in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL). The win sees ATK draw level on points (21) at the top of the table with FC Goa while Mumbai City are placed fourth (16).

A frantic start to the match saw both goalkeepers tested early in the game. Mumbai custodian Amrinder Singh had to get down smartly to keep out a long-ranger from Jayesh Rane in the third minute, while Diego Carlos stung ATK goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya’s palms with a good effort from inside the box minutes later.Mumbai continued to trouble the ATK defence as the game wore on with Mohammed Larbi and Amine Chermiti going close in quick succession. The pick of the chances, though, went to Modou Sougou after Carlos fed Chermiti down the left. The Moroccan’s cutback from the byline was sent straight at Arindam by Sougou.

ATK saw off that spell of pressure and started to make inroads of their own. Roy Krishna shot agonisingly wide in the 22nd minute after a lovely reverse pass from Rane found him in space inside the box.ATK were not to be denied in the 29th minute when Javier Hernandez and Roy Krishna combined delightfully to send David Williams into the penalty box. The Australian had the presence of mind to pick out an onrushing Pronay Halder who slotted it into the net.

The celebrations, though, were soured by an injury that Halder picked up, with Antonio Habas forced to send in Michael Soosairaj in place of the goalscorer. That move paid off handsomely in the 43rd minute when Soosairaj found himself in possession down the left-wing. He went on to place a sensational curler into the far corner to double ATK’s advantage at the break.A stung Mumbai City showed greater urgency in the second half as they sought a way back into the game. As Jorge Costa’s men mounted pressure on ATK’s defence, the likes of Roy Krishna and Soosairaj were finding spaces to run too.

One such move saw Soosairaj twist and turn Pratik Chaudhury, before picking out Krishna at the near post. But his first-time volley from close range rattled back of the crossbar.Mumbai, at the other end, had no luck either. Sougou did find the back of the net in the 68th minute but the effort was chalked out for offside. The Islanders continued to pepper the ATK goal with attempts but saw chances go begging, thanks to a combination of last-ditch defending and poor finishing. Chermiti was denied in the 74th minute after a desperate goal-line clearance following a scramble inside the box.

Mumbai continued to pour forward desperately but lady luck did not shine on them. Sougou thought he had a goal in the 82nd minute when Arindam spilled a ball and he turned it in, but the referee disallowed it for a foul on the goalkeeper. Minutes later, Serge Kevyn headed wide from point-blank range.Towards the end, Sougou hit the woodwork as well as Mumbai were left to ponder the chances they wasted.

ISL PRESS RELEASE : ATK delivered the perfect Christmas present for their supporters with a 1-0 win against defending champions Bengaluru FC in the Hero Indian Super League at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium here on Wednesday.

After a goalless yet intriguing first 45 minutes, David Williams (47') scored in crackling fashion. The visitors' half-cooked attempts to get back into the game failed and the hosts' defence then did an exceptional job of keeping the Bengaluru attack at bay. The three points at home has helped Antonio Habas' men to the top of the Hero ISL table. ATK have 18 points, the same tally as Goa, having played a game more. Bengaluru are third, with 16 points from 10 matches.

ATK threatened as early as the second minute. Williams chipped the ball into the path of Krishna who ran in behind the defence and struck the side-netting with just goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu to beat. Two minutes later, a poor pass back to the keeper by Rahul Bheke allowed Krishna to chase the ball but Gurpreet rushed off his line to kick the ball away from danger. The visitors struggled to get into the game and were dependent on set-pieces to create openings in the first half. Dimas Delgado took a free-kick from just outside the box midway through the half but failed to test goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya.

While ATK threatened with fast counters, the Blues were made to work hard for chances. Delgado played a wonderful diagonal to release Udanta Singh in behind the defence but the India international pulled out of his chase at the last minute without getting a shot away as Arindam rushed to collect. A determined ATK broke the deadlock two minutes into the second half. Krishna charged at the defence and attempted a through-ball for Williams which Bheke failed to properly clear. Jayesh Rane poked the loose ball into the path of Williams who unleashed a terrific strike that flew past Gurpreet and bulged the net.

Bengaluru stepped up their efforts to get back into the game but struggled to work the ATK custodian. A deflected Harmanjot Khabra cross from the right close to the hour-mark fell perfectly for an unmarked Delgado whose first-time effort from inside the box flew wide. The Bengaluru attack failed to muster clear-cut chances against a solid ATK defence led by Agus Garcia. The home side was happy to sit back, hit the visitors on the counter and the organized approach triumphed on the night to secure three points.

Hyderabad FC failed to hold on for a rare win as lucky ATK slogged to a 2-2 draw at the GMC Balayogi Athletic Stadium on Saturday. Roy Krishna (15’ penalty) and Bobo (39’) scored a goal each in the first half. Bobo scored his second of the evening in the 85th minute with a brilliant header for Hyderabad. Krishna, however, scored his eighth of the season with a late strike in the 90th minute to win a point for his side. Phil Brown started with the attacking trio of Nestor Gordillo, Marcelinho and Bobo as they searched for their second win in the Hero Indian Super League. Antonio Habas chose to drop Michael Soosairaj and Prabir Das and handed a start to Jobby Justin and Sumit Rathi as the two wingbacks.

The first chance came in the seventh minute when Bobo found Nestor and the Spaniard’s shot from inside the box missed the near post by a few inches.Javier Hernandez’s cross from the left was deemed to have been handled by Ashish Rai as the referee pointed to the spot. Krishna struck from the ensuing penalty as the visitors took the lead against the run of play. Hyderabad should have equalised soon after as Marcelinho’s corner-kick only needed a nudge after Arindam Bhattacharya came off his line and missed the flight of the ball.

They had another chance a few minutes later when Rohit Kumar, Adil Khan and Marcelinho combined with the Brazilian’s final shot missing the target. Hyderabad equalised in the 38th minute when Nestor sent in a cross from the left which was met by Bobo who headed it home despite being under pressure from Salam Ranjan and Pritam Kotal. ATK could have taken the lead again as Jobby’s header sailed over the bar from a Hernandez free-kick. Krishna and Williams combined a few minutes later with the latter being fed by a quality cross. However, an important interception by Adil Khan denied Williams as Hyderabad survived a scare.

Both coaches made a couple of changes as they searched for the second goal with Mohammad Yasir and Robin Singh coming in for the home side, while Prabir Das and Soosairaj were thrown into the mix for the visitors. The second goal for Hyderabad came in the 85th minute. Marcelinho’s cross saw Bobo glance it to the far post to beat Bhattacharya in goal to make it 2-1 for the home team. However, ATK found a way back thanks to an error by Kamajit. The goalkeeper’s clearance went straight to Hernandez who headed it onto the path of Krishna. The Fijian striker simply lobbed the ball over the goalkeeper to rescue a point for the visitors.

Ahmed Jahouh and Lenny Rodrigues bossed the midfield and forced ATK inside their own cage. However, neither team was able to carve out clear-cut chances. David Williams charged at the Goa defence just before the break, in an attempt to create something for his team. Seriton Fernandes' firm challenge prevented the forward from getting a shot away quickly before Carlos Pena came around to clear the danger.

Goa's dominance was finally rewarded from a set-piece at the hour-mark. Brandon Fernandes picked up his fifth assist of the season by delivering an excellent free-kick towards the far post from the right flank. Mourtada Fall outmuscled Augustin Garcia to head the ball into the net to put Goa ahead. Jobby Justin’s maiden ISL goal turned out to be ATK’s equliser. Sehnaj Singh fed Roy Krishna into the box but Fall slid in with a brilliant tackle to take the ball off the striker. A minute after coming on, Jobby was at the right place at the right time to tap home the rebound.

The game opened up after the deadlock was broken and Goa regained their lead immediately. From a quick counter, Boumous played a clever ball across the goal from the right for Ferran Corominas who guided it in at the near post to make an impact on his return from injury.Goa's composure on the ball stopped ATK from getting back into the game and the home crowd had plenty of reasons to celebrate when the scoreline remained unchanged at the full-time whistle. www.kolkatafootball.com

07.12.2019: NORTH EAST UNITED 0-3 ATK (FT)

ISL MEDIA: ATK reclaimed the top spot in the Hero Indian Super League with an impressive 3-0 win against NorthEast United FC at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium here on Saturday. An early strike from David Williams (11') and a brace from Roy Krishna (35', 90+4') was enough for Antonio Habas' team to hand NorthEast their first defeat of the season. With the strikes taking his goal tally to six, Krishna also became the leading goalscorer this season.

With their fourth win of the campaign, ATK have 14 points from seven matches while the Highlanders, who have 10 points, are fourth. Star striker Asamoah Gyan could have put NorthEast ahead within two minutes when he chested down a brilliant lob over the defence by Rakesh Pradhan but the Ghanaian striker's shot was kept out well by goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya.

Minutes after that big chance, the star striker was forced off the field due to an injury with Maximiliano Barriero coming on as the replacement. In the 11th minute, a lapse in concentration by the hosts' defence allowed Williams to pounce and give ATK the lead. Prabir Das ran down the flank unmarked to latch onto Edu Garcia's through-ball and found Williams at the far post with a cross. The in-form forward leapt over his marker to head the ball into the net.

Boosted by the opener, ATK threatened the hosts with quick counters and doubled their lead before the break. Williams delivered an excellent ball for Krishna who attacked the space behind the visitors' defence, dropped his shoulder to get past the last defender and slotted past Subhasish Roy. Habas' team continued to pose a threat after the change of ends. Minutes into the second-half, Krishna missed a chance to score his second goal when Williams set him up in front of the goal following a two-on-one scenario. The striker sent his effort wide with an empty net in front.

The creator then almost turned scorer when Williams got to Das' pass into the box and unleashed a powerful strike that required strong hands from the goalkeeper.
NorthEast found it hard to create clear-cut opportunities. Martin Chaves' 30-yard piledriver flew harmlessly over the bar. Lalthathanga Khwalhring's cross into the box found Nikhil Kadam with just the keeper to beat, but the winger failed to control his header.

The two-goal cushion allowed ATK to drop deeper and make it harder for their opponents, whose lack of final touch meant there was no comeback in store for the home crowd. ATK added another goal in injury time. Substitute Jobby Justin released Krishna into space behind the backline and the Fijian striker's neat finish found the net.

ISL 2019-20 MATCH 22 (PUNE) c

ISL PRESS RELEASE : Both sides carved out numerous chances to break the deadlock but a goal would not materialise. The result sees ATK maintain their spot atop the table with 10 points from five games while Odisha are now fifth with five points from as many matches. The game got off to an energetic start with ATK looking to go forward quickly. However, Odisha pressed their opponents hard and forced a couple of mispasses. Odisha slowly started to put ATK’s defence under pressure and had two chances to take the lead after 15 minutes. Nandhakumar Sekar headed over from close range after Martin Guedes’ corner evaded ATK custodian Arindam Bhattacharja.

Then, Daniel Lalhlimpuia displayed silky skills to embark on a mazy run, evading three ATK defenders with ease, but he lost his footing and could only direct a tame effort at Arindam. Odisha’s dominance continued as Nandhakumar picked out Guedes in the box, but he could not get a shot away in the 24th minute. In the middle of all the Odisha pressure, ATK had a chance when Javier Hernandez was sent through on goal, but Odisha goalkeeper Arshdeep Singh was quick to pounce on the ball.
Odisha continued to be in the ascendancy with Shubham Sarangi and Nandhakumar Sekar asking quite a few questions of the ATK defence.

The frantic nature of the game continued even in the second half. Odisha continued to assert their dominance and Martin Guedes saw a shot in the 52nd minute saved by Arindam. At the other end, ATK started to slowly claw their way back into the game and had a great chance when second-half substitute Jobby Justin got on the end of a corner and got a header on target in the 63rd minute. Nandhakumar, however, was on hand to clear the ball off the line.

Jerry Mawihmingthanga then picked out Aridane Santana at the far post but could not get his header on target as ATK heaved a sigh of relief. Both sides continued to test each other in a bid to find a winner but a combination of sloppy passing and poor finishing kept the deadlock intact. There was some drama at the end as ATK forced a series of corners but a goal would not come to fruition.
