PREVIEW - ISL OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE : Mumbai City FC will not take anything for granted in their next Hero Indian Super League clash against struggling Atletico de Kolkata in Mumbai on Sunday.

Mumbai City FC have turned their fortunes around with three victories in a row after struggling to win any of their first three matches. The string of victories have put them in contention for a place in the semifinal and they now meet defending champions Atletico de Kolkata, who are struggling, having lost their last three matches, including one at home against Delhi Dynamos.

“I am very pleased with the team right now. We had a difficult start but the team has responded well. I am pleased,” said Mumbai City marquee-player-cum-manager Nicolas Anelka during the pre-match media briefing.

“We are playing at home and we will play to win. It’s a different game and we go on the pitch knowing we have the home advantage. Of course, we want to win but we are playing a good team tomorrow. We have to try our best,” said the former Real Madrid striker, who has restricted himself to a managerial role this season having only played three matches as a substitute.

Sunil Chhetri has been Mumbai City’s star performer with a hat-trick in the last game against NorthEast United FC and six goals in three matches. Anelka was pleased with the India captain’s performance and hoped he would continue with his rich scoring form.

“I am happy with him. He is scoring. He is a big player for us. Good player, very pleased with him,” said Anelka. Atletico de Kolkata are not in the best of form and have only seven points to their account from six matches. They are placed sixth on the table and will have to start winning if they are to finish among the top four.

“Every match is a knock out for us. Mumbai City is a good side and we are trying to overcome Mumbai,” said ATK assistant coach Bastab Roy. Roy said ATK’s string of disappointing results have come as a setback but were not uncommon in the world of football.

“It’s not a difficult task. It happens. We will come back,” he said, confirming the availability of midfielders Javi Lara and Jewel Raja, both of whom had previously missed matches due to injury.

PREVIEW- ISL PRESS RELEASE : GOA: FC Goa chief coach Zico is refusing to press the panic button despite his team being hit hard by injuries ahead of a seventh round Hero Indian Super League clash against FC Pune City in Goa on Friday.

Zico confirmed injuries to Joffre Gonzalez, Keenan Almeida, Reinaldo Oliveira, Darryl Duffy and Victorino Fernandes and said marquee player Lucio’s fitness was yet to be ascertained. “We still have to assess Lucio. Yesterday he practiced well with the team but we have to see him in training today,” Zico said during the pre-match media briefing.

The FC Goa chief coach did not dwell too much on the injured players and instead kept his faith in the players who are available. “I trust all my players. It does not matter to me who is out. Those who are available will come, play and give everything. I will give them the confidence. If they are at FC Goa, it means they are capable. I trust them,” said Zico.

FC Goa lost the last match against Mumbai City FC 0-2 and lost some of the momentum they had picked-up after winning two matches on the trot against NorthEast United FC and Kerala Blasters.

“Pune is a tough team but if you look at all the teams in the ISL, there is not much difference. There is no difference whether you play at home or away. We have to do our best to win this game,” said Zico, whose team is placed third on the table with 10 points, the same as Mumbai City FC.

FC Pune City are leading the table with 12 points and have looked dangerous as they arrive in Goa on the back of a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Kerala Blasters where they fought back after being a goal down inside the first minute.

“I don’t think Pune City are the favourites. I think all eight (teams) are the favourites. As we come towards the halfway stage, you look at the teams and the position fluctuates. Every couple of games, it changes. It’s difficult. An injury to a player, back-to-back victories, or defeat, can change things,” said Pune manager David Platt, giving Mumbai City as an example after they won three matches on the trot and are now positioned second on the table.

Platt said the team’s first priority was to finish among the top four and qualify for the semifinal. “Our aim is to qualify for the semifinal and we cannot afford to take our eyes off the ball. We must qualify in the quickest time possible,” said Platt.

Delhi Dynamos have a chance to open up a two-point lead at the top of the table and manager Roberto Carlos will leave nothing to chance as they gear up to tackle NorthEast United FC in the Hero Indian Super League clash on Tuesday.

Second-placed Delhi Dynamos have 12 points in their bag and a game in hand. They have won four of their games so far and have generally looked among the better teams in the League. Manager Roberto Carlos, however, is aware of the pitfalls if you drop guard, and has asked his team not to take anything for granted.

“Sometimes, the table does not show the actual skills of a team. NorthEast United is a good team and have some great players. So I know they will do well and it will be a tough match,” Carlos said during the pre-match media briefing.

One of the better players for Delhi Dynamos and the ISL this season has been John Arne Riise. The UEFA Champions League winner and former Liverpool FC full-back has played in multiple positions and said he is enjoying his football in India.

“There is always some difficulty when you come to a new country. But I am feeling confident and stronger with each game that we play. We had five away games so far and some games have been difficult. It’s been a good start for me and the team,” said Riise.

NorthEast United, despite their position in the bottom half of the league table, will be no pushovers. Coach Cesar Farias knows that his team is still in contention for a place in the semifinals.

“This league is even between teams and every game brings a different story. In the last game, there were accidental handballs (which were given as penalties). It’s quite rare and that opened up the game,” said Farias.

“Knowing that we have had long travels and back-to-back (away) games, there is not much time to think about what happened in the previous matches. When you lose, you do not see many positives, but there were positives and we hope to get the result we need (against Delhi Dynamos),” said the former Venezuela manager.

NorthEast United have won only two matches so far, both of them at home. They have lost all away matches so far.

PREVIEW - ISL PRESS RELEASE : Kerala Blasters caretaker coach Trevor Morgan believes his team is only one win away from getting back on track as they battle Chennaiyin FC in the Hero Indian Super League clash in Kochi on Saturday.
Kerala Blasters have lost four matches in a row and parted ways with head coach Peter Taylor after their 2-3 loss against FC Pune City. Morgan has now been named caretaker coach and the man who has been assistant to David James and Peter Taylor at Kerala Blasters is keen to start a turnaround at the earliest.

“There will be something different tomorrow but what that is I cannot say at the moment,” Morgan said during the pre-match media briefing. “All I can say is that we need to win the game and to win the game, we got to do well going forward. We will field a team that will give us a lot of options going forward, and at the same time, also make sure we do not concede goals,” said Morgan.

Morgan said Kerala Blasters have not been outplayed in any of the four matches which they lost and were unlucky to lose by narrow solitary goal margins. “Last year, we were making mistakes but not getting punished. This season, every mistake you make, you get punished. In football, you are one result away from finding form. I cannot say there is lack of self-belief in the team because we are trying everyday. We just need that one win to set you off,” said Morgan.

Chennaiyin FC have not had the best of starts and are now placed fifth with nine points from six matches. But some of their electric performances have led many to believe they are the most dangerous side. Chennaiyin FC now meet Southern rivals Kerala Blasters and assistant coach Vivek Nagul knows the hosts will be difficult opponents despite their bottom rank on the league table.

“They are a good football team and we are ready for the match. They have a strong side and have strong support and we look at this game like any other. It’s an away game and we expect tough competition,” said Nagul. Chennaiyin FC have been reliant on Colombian striker Stiven Mendoza and Brazilian marquee player Elano Blumer to get them the goals, although Nagul gave a different assessment.

“We have trust in all our players. Others will also start scoring. If Elano and Mendoza are scoring, it’s good for us but we are not entirely dependent on them. We have other good players and have full trust in them,” he said.
