PREVIEW : ISL PRESS RELEASE : Having broken their three-match losing streak in spectacular fashion, Atletico de Kolkata will be keen to recover lost ground as they tackle NorthEast United FC in Hero Indian Super League clash in Kolkata on Saturday.

The defending champions were down for the count after losing three matches in a row. Nothing seemed to go right for Antonio Lopez Habas’ team until they landed in Mumbai and stunned high-flying Mumbai City FC 4-1.

The victory not just provided a new ray of hope for Atletico de Kolkata but also got them within sniffing distance of the table leaders. They are now placed fourth with 10 points and a win will bring them among the top three.

“We had to activate the team. Fortunately everything worked against Mumbai City. Different day, different match. It’s important that the players remain positive,” Habas had said after the victory over Mumbai City.
That night hero for Atletico de Kolkata was Iain Hume. The Canadian striker had gone without scoring a goal in six matches. He was doing all the hard work but there was no sign of any goal from the man who won the Golden Ball last year. Suddenly there was a flood of goals as Hume scored a hat-trick against Mumbai which pleased his coach.

“He is a good player who can play in any position. He can play from right winger to defender because he's fantastic,” said Habas. NorthEast United FC, on other hand needed a spectacular free kick from their marquee player Simao Sabrosa to give them a point against Delhi Dynamos in the previous match.

Delhi Dynamos seemed to have done just enough to script victory at home but the Portuguese and Barcelona winger rose from the bench to score within seconds of taking the field.

That performance would have given encouragement to coach Cesar Farias, who knows that three points from their next match against the defending champions will lift them out of the bottom and get them close to those teams who are entertaining hopes of a place in the semifinal.

“This draw against Delhi has given us the edge to skyrocket. And one of the most important things is that it is difficult to forget the wins or losses and move on to the next one. It is painful we lost two points especially when you played better than the other team. But in soccer, you have to put up,” said Farias.

NorthEast are at the bottom of the table with seven points from seven matches. Both their victories have come while playing at home.

PREVIEW : ISL PRESS RELEASE : FC Goa chief coach Zico has dismissed suggestions that revenge will be on their minds when they take on the might of Chennaiyin FC in their away game of Hero Indian Super League clash in Chennai on Thursday.

FC Goa had lost 0-4 against Chennaiyin FC at home with Stiven Mendoza scoring a deserving hat-trick. The defeat rankled Goa but as they prepare to face Marco Materazzi’s strongmen, Zico said their only aim is to secure three points in a match where a win for either team will take them to the top of the table.

“There is no feeling of revenge. What happened in the past is past. We came here for three points. We are here for a result that can help us finish among the top four,” Zico said during the pre-match media briefing.

Colombian striker Stiven Mendoza was the star on the night when Chennaiyin FC destroyed FC Goa and the Brazilian great admitted the Colombian along with midfielder Elano Blumer, who also scored and set-up two other goals, give Chennaiyin FC an edge.

“Mendoza is a good player, very fast and he had a great game against us. I had told our players to take special care of him and Elano but we did not succeed. We don’t have any special plan for Mendoza now,” said Zico.

Other than facing the mighty Chennaiyin at their home ground, FC Goa have to overcome another challenge of overcoming injuries to several of its players like Joffre Gonzalez, Reinaldo Oliveira, Keenan Almeida, Pronay Halder and Joaquim Abranches. The good news for the visitors is that Brazilian striker Rafael Coelho has been cleared to play after completing the transfer formalities. The Brazilian last played for Thai Premier League club Buriram United.

“Rafael is training with us for some days. He will practice with us today (in Chennai) and then we will decide,” said Zico. Chennaiyin FC can move to the top of the ISL table for the first time this season with a win over FC Goa. Despite the easy win against their opponents away, Materazzi does not believe that they will have an easy run against Zico’s side.

“No I do not think so,” said Materazzi when asked if the first leg victory will give them the confidence that they can easily pocket full points. The Italian World Cup winner also denied that his team is over reliant on Mendoza and Elano, both of whom have scored a majority of the team’s goals.

Chennaiyin FC are placed fourth with 10 points from seven matches, while Goa are placed third with 11 points from seven matches. A win for either of the team will take them to the top of the table.

PREVIEW : ISL MEDIA RELEASE : Kerala Blasters start their second leg of the Hero Indian Super League with a new man in-charge and believe they can still find a place among the semi finalists.

Kerala Blasters started their ISL campaign with a win over NorthEast United FC but has since then not won a single game. They are rooted to the bottom of the table with five points and start their campaign under the newly appointed coach Terry Phelan with a clash against table-toppers FC Pune City in Kochi on Wednesday.

Incidentally, Kerala Blasters lost 2-3 against FC Pune City paving the way for the club and coach Peter Taylor to part ways. “Trust me, grassroot is harder than this job,” said Phelan who is also incharge of Kerala's youth development programme.

"I want to help as much as I can. I have got great people alongside me, Trevor (Morgan) has great experience and the mentality (of the team) is great. The players want to do their best and we look forward to win the next game,” said the former Manchester City player.

Kerala Blasters lost 2-3 against Pune City in their previous match eight days ago with all goals coming from crosses, assistant coach Trevor Morgan stressed on the need for the team to learn from its mistakes.

"We gave the left back far too much room. We fell short against them and hope the players realize we cannot give them space because if we do, they will hurt us," said Morgan, who saw his team share the honours with Chennaiyin FC in the last game. FC Pune City are at the top of the table and coach David Platt is confident that they can seal their place in the semifinal as early as possible, despite having to play five of their matches away.

"I think we are in a healthy position. We still need to get some points to make sure of the play off places. We have played tight matches so far. We have shown huge amount of character. The group believes in itself. So it does not concern me that we have five away games to go," said Platt. The clash is between a team placed at the top of the table and one at the bottom of the table but Platt sees it differently.

"Obviously at this moment they have got their backs to the wall and they need points. So that can help them focus. The league position is irrelevant. You have to take each game on its own merit. When we played them last week, it was a difficult match. Terry’s in charge now and I know him well. It's not going to be an easy match," said the former Manchester City assistant coach.

PREVIEW :ISL MEDIA RELEASE : Roberto Carlos is eyeing the top spot for his team as Delhi Dynamos meet Mumbai City FC in the Hero Indian Super League clash in Delhi on Friday.

Delhi Dynamos are tied on points with FC Pune City (13 points) at the top of the table but with a match in hand, the Delhi Dynamos marquee coach knows his team has the chance to move to the top of the table as the race for a place in the semifinal gathers momentum. "Mumbai City is a good team but our goal is to get above Pune. It's important for us to win and stay at the top," Carlos said during the pre-match media briefing.

The Brazilian 2002 World Cup winner is not concerned that Delhi Dynamos lost their away clash against Mumbai City and seemed least worried that his side has scored only six goals in the league, the least by any team. Even NorthEast United FC, who are at the bottom of the table, have scored more, although significantly Delhi Dynamos have also conceded only six goals and have the best defensive record.

"I am not worried because we are top of the table. The goals will come at the right moment. Players like Gadze, Nabi, Robin know to score and will score when they have to. May be tomorrow my strikers will score two goals each," said Carlos, probably indicating that Adil Nabi, on loan from English Premier League side West Bromwich Albion will have a role to play against Mumbai City on Friday.

Mumbai City have ambitions of their own and have declared war on their opponents. "All of us are ready to win the war. We have seven games to finish and we are targeting 10 points. If we have 20 points, we will qualify. If we cannot, we will be out of the competition," said assistant coach Oscar Bruzon.

Currently Mumbai City are placed seventh with 10 points from seven matches. The visitors suffered a heavy defeat in their last match at home against Atletico de Kolkata and Bruzon admitted the defending champions were the better side.

"In the last game, we were a little bit over confident and ATK were a much better team than us. We analyzed everything. Their fighting spirit was better than us. It's true we defeated Delhi in our home game but that battle is finished. The new battle is tomorrow,' said the Spanish coach.

Next week, Mumbai City FC will miss three of their players including star players Sunil Chhetri and Sony Norde, both of whom will be away on international duty, and Bruzon admitted the clash against Delhi Dynamos was of “maximum importance."
