PREVIEW- ISL PRESS RELEASE : Kerala Blasters and Atletico de Kolkata played the final of last year’s Hero Indian Super League. But in the second edition of the league, the teams have been struggling.

Atletico de Kolkata have three points from the last five matches and are placed sixth. Kerala Blasters haven’t had a good start either, and despite the revival sparked after the arrival of induction of new head coach Terry Phelan, they find themselves placed at the bottom of the table with four points from the last five matches.

It’s not an ideal situation for both teams but as they face each other in a crucial ninth round clash in Kochi on Tuesday, they are aware that they can still turn it around.

“Every game is a big game. Every game we go into we have to go into it with the right attitude. We will be going into this game with the right attitude to get three points. If you can manage two or three wins, it will propel you to the top half. We are very confident that we can go out there and grab the three points,” said chief coach Terry Phelan.

Kerala Blasters will be encouraged by their performance in the last game where they easily accounted for FC Pune City, who were leading the table at that time. There is not much separating all the teams and assistant coach Trevor Morgan said they are very much in the race for a place in the semi finals.

“It's not where we are that counts. In three weeks, we could be in a completely different position. One or two wins can propel a team higher up. At the moment, no team is pulling away. There is no huge gap. There is a seven point gap between top and bottom which can be turned around with two wins,” explained Morgan.

Atletico de Kolkata are also facing tough times and have been hampered due to injuries to marquee player Helder Postiga, captain Josemi and midfielder Javi Lara. “We have had three very important players injured. It’s too much of a problem for the team. I have confidence in my players and we have to work every day,” said Habas during the pre-match media briefing.

“Both of us have been in similar positions this season. Kerala wants to win right now and we also want to win. Both of us need a win but we have the time to cover the position in the league. We have to be calm and not be nervous. Being nervous cannot get you anything,” said Habas, whose team lost to NorthEast United FC in their previous match.

PREVIEW : ISL PRESS RELEASE : FC Pune City return to their familiar home surroundings and look to boost their chances of a place in the semifinals as they face FC Goa in a ninth round clash of the Hero Indian Super League in Pune on Sunday.

FC Pune City have been poor travelers this season, having not won a single game on the road. Their away performances have resulted in losses against Kerala Blasters (2-0) and Chennaiyin FC (2-1), besides a lucky draw against FC Goa (1-1). But as Platt returns to the venue that gave him four victories in five matches, the former Manchester City assistant coach will feel confident.
Platt, though, will have plenty of loose ends to tie after picking up only a point from their last two matches. Looking to become the first team to qualify for the semifinals, FC Pune City were first held by FC Goa away but it’s the blow against Kerala Blasters that will hurt Platt for some time.

“It was all down to me,” Platt admitted after the game. "I got it wrong. We didn't start very well but I was too hasty to change it and tried to change it back again at half-time. It did not give my players any kind of stability. I got to look at myself first and foremost,” said Platt.

FC Goa chief coach Zico had negated Pune’s famed attack with three centre-backs. Strikers like Tuncay Sanli, Yendrick Ruiz and Kalu Uche all had a quiet night in Goa and Zico is likely to continue with the same formation.

The arrival of Brazilian striker Rafael Coelho has given Zico options up front after being handicapped by injuries to strikers like Reinaldo Oliveira, Darryl Duffy, Victorino Fernandes and Joaquim Abranches. Coelho looked lively on debut and won two penalties, helping Goa win 2-0 against Chennaiyin FC.

The Brazil legend is expected to continue with the same team and formation with doubts only over the availability of important midfielder Leo Moura, who went down under a tackle from Chennaiyin FC midfielder Harmanjot Khabra. “The tackle was very bad. Moura is injured and I do not know if we will be able to field him,” said Zico.

PREVIEW - ISL PRESS RELEASE : Nicolas Anelka is worried about his team’s unpredictability as Mumbai City FC gear up for the Maha Derby against FC Pune City in a 10th round clash of the Hero Indian Super League in Navi Mumbai on Friday.

Mumbai City are placed sixth at the moment with 11 points from eight matches. With a match in hand, they are just four points adrift of league leaders FC Goa but Mumbai’s marquee-player-cum-manager is more concerned about how unpredictable his team has fared in the first leg of the league.

“I believe we can do better than the away game we had in Pune but the Mumbai team is unpredictable. We can be very good on our day and we can also be very poor. That's not a good point but I hope we will see the very good face of Mumbai against Pune tomorrow,” said Anelka on the eve of the match.
For the opening round away match against FC Pune City, Mumbai City had missed the service of Sunil Chhetri and Subrata Paul. Anelka once again finds himself in similar situation with his star striker and goalkeeper on national duty. To add to his woes, Sony Norde too has flown back to join his national duty and will miss two match.

“They are good players, so of course we will miss them. But the team is ready and we will try our best to do the job without them," said the former Real Madrid and Chelsea star. nelka himself has not been at his best this season and promised to do more in the second phase. "I have been training well and think I will need more minutes on the pitch to be fitter. But, yes, you can expect to see more of me in the second part of ISL," explained Anelka.

FC Pune City's away form has been of concern as they have been unable to win any of their three matches played away from home. They lost against Chennaiyin FC and drew against Kerala Blasters and FC Goa. Manager David Platt, though, is not worried.

"We have only played three games away from home and it has been difficult. In Chennai, although we could have been out of the game in the first half, we finished well and could have got something. In Goa again we finished well. The only real performance we have had all season that displeased me totally was Kerala away, but it was our fourth match in 11 days with three of them being away," explained the former Manchester City assistant coach.

Pune City made a good start to their campaign and were largely expected to steal their place in the semifinals ahead of others. That has not happened and Pune find themselves in second place behind FC Goa and tied on points with Delhi Dynamos.

"Every team has gone through a patch where they have not been at their best. The parity in the league means there are no favourites, so others expectations have no consequence with me," said Platt. "Mumbai City will be a difficult game for us, away from home against a team that is there or thereabouts, so we will have to be disciplined in our play and confident to get the result," said Platt.

PREVIEW-ISL PRESS RELEASE : The return of marquee player Helder Postiga means Atletico de Kolkata will have a spring in their step when they take on the might of Delhi Dynamos in the Hero Indian Super League clash in Delhi on Saturday.

Postiga scored two goals in his team’s 3-2 win over Chennaiyin FC in the ISL opener on October 3 and was stretchered out due to injury. He has not played since then but has now rejoined the team, although it was not clear whether he has got the all-clear to start playing competitive matches again.

“We were all waiting for him,” Atletico de Kolkata coach Antonio Lopez Habas said during the pre-match media briefing where the marquee player himself was also present and said he was glad to return to Atletico de Kolkata. “I am at this moment in my last phase of recovery. I am happy to be here. I hope to get more fit,” said Postiga, who was recovering in Portugal and watched all ATK matches in the ISL.

“For me, this is the best team. I have lot of confidence in my friends and my coach and I hope the team wins the last games and qualify for the play-offs. I hope I can help in the next games,” said the Portugal striker.Delhi Dynamos coach Roberto Carlos said he was happy that a good player like Postiga was back in the ISL. “For the opponents, it's a moment to be happy,” he said.

The Brazil legend will also be pleased that his players on international duty will return to the Delhi Dynamos camp and he will be able to pick them against the defending champions. While Carlos did not speak about the other players, he confirmed that striker Robin Singh, who scored India’s only goal against Guam in the World Cup qualifier on Thursday, will start the match.

“Tomorrow, I am considering to start (Adil) Nabi with Robin Singh. We will be attacking and want a win. I will see what is the best. I will position the team so that Robin and Nabi can play together,” said Carlos.

Asked whether he himself will take the field, Carlos said, “It depends. It's possible. For me I feel very happy when I am on the pitch. I have fun when I play football.”Dynamos won the away clash in Kolkata by a solitary goal scored by Brazilian Gustavo Dos Santos in the 90th minute.

Delhi Dynamos have 14 points from eight matches and can move to the top of the table with a win. Atletico de Kolkata, who have 13 points from nine matches, can also move to the top with a victory that will take them above FC Goa (15 points from nine matches).
