Zakeer Mundampara renews with Chennaiyin FC
CFC PRESS RELEASE - 31.08.2016 : :Indian Super League champions Chennaiyin FC is delighted to announce that midfielder Zakeer Mundampara has signed an extension with the club till the end of the current Indian football season.
The central medio from Kerala was Chennaiyin’s second pick in the 2015 ISL domestic draft and he went on to play an important role in the latter stages of CFC’s title success.
Zakeer produced one of the assists of the season when he set up John Stiven Mendoza’s opening goal in the 3-0 home win over Mumbai City FC in the league stage but his best performance came in the 3-0 victory over Atletico de Kolkata in semi-final first leg.
The 26-year-old was loaned to DSK Shivajians after the end of ISL 2015 but a knee injury ruled him out of the entire I-League campaign.
After working hard during his rehabilitation, Zakeer proved his fitness in the first week of the pre-season training camp in Perugia,Italy and is now delighted to sign an extension.
SPANISH CENTER FORWARD JUAN BELENCOSO SIGNS FOR ATLETICO DE KOLKATA

Juan Belencoso : Born in Elche de la Sierra, Albacete, Belencoso started playing as a senior with amateurs Deportivo Rayo Cantabria. From 2002 to 2008, following a brief spell in Portugal, he competed mainly in Segunda División B, representing in that level Real Jaén, Mérida UD, CE L'Hospitalet and CD Baza. Belencoso reached Segunda División for the first time in the 2008–09 seasons, signing with local Castile-La Mancha club Albacete Balompié.
He made his debut in the competition on 31 August 2008, coming in as a late substitute in a 2–1 home win against Sevilla Atletico, but only scored twice in the league over the course of two full seasons.
FC PUNE CITY SIGNED former FC Barcelona Player Eidur Smari Gudjohnsen..
24.08.2016 : :FC PUNE CITY signed former FC Barcelona Player and Captain of Iceland national football team Eidur Smari Gudjohnsen. 37 years old Icelandic professional footballer who plays as a forward for Premier League club Chelsea and FC Barcelona of Spain. He also played at Bolton Wanderers, Clelsea FC in EPL and Serie A team AS Monaco. He is the top scorer of all time with 26 international goals in 88 caps for Iceland.
He was the captain of the Iceland national team. Throughout his professional career, eidur scored over 150 goals in all competitions with his clubs and the national team. He wasthe coach of FC Barcelona Women football team also.
He was selected for Iceland's Euro 2016 squad at the age of 37. He appeared twice, both as a substitute. He came on late in their second group match against Hungary which ended 1-1. Iceland twent to the last 16, by beating England 2-1. He was the captain in their quarter final match against France where Iceland lost 5-2 which was potentially his last international match.
FC GOA CONFIRMS REINALDO AND SUBHASHISH ROY CHOWDHURY
23.08.2016 : PRESS RELEASE FCG :FC GOA has confirmed the signings of Brazilian forward Reinaldo Da Cruz Oliveira and goalkeeper Subhashish Roy Chowdhury. The Brazilian has re-signed with the club on the back of a successful season where he topped the scoring charts by notching up seven goals during the campaign. His outstanding moment of the season came when he scored a brilliant hat trick against Kerala Blasters in a 5-2 win. The 37-year-old joins the likes of Robin Singh in attack and will be expected to lead the charge again for the Goan club, for whom he made 10 appearances last season.
Said Reinaldo, “I’m very happy to continue this journey with FC Goa. Last season, we had a very good campaign and fell marginally short. We want to take that extra step forward this year and go all the way. With Zico coming back, there is a familiarity to the setup once again and a certain comfort level with the rest of the team. The Goan crowds were a big influence on us last year and we are relying on the same continued support this season to help us achieve us goals. I’m looking forward to an intense pre-season campaign to get us ready for when the ball starts rolling.”
Subhashish Roy Chowdhury is a new signing, having previously plied his trade with Atletico De Kolkata in the past two seasons of the Hero ISL. He was part of the squad that were crowned champions in the inaugural edition and was also involved in the second season before an injury curtailed his season. He brings a wealth of experience with him and is expected to provide local boy Laxmikanth Kattimani with stiff competition for a place in between the sticks. The 29-year-old has been capped four times by the national team and is looking to use this season as a platform to regain his place.
Kerala Blasters signed midfielder Azrack Mahamat of Chad
23.08.2016 : PRESS RELEASE KB : Kerala Blasters today announced the signing of Chadian international midfielder Azrack-Yassine Mahamatto bolster its team for the Indian Super League 2016. Azrack Mahamat, who plays in the defensive midfield position, makes the move from Greek club Levadiakos F.C.
Born in Créteil, France, in a family passionate about the game, the 28 year old decided to be a footballer when he saw his father and older brother practice football. He went on to be trained at AJ Auxerre in 2006 and appeared for the reserves before wearing the colours of the RCD Espanyol Bin 2009 through the first ‘Draft Blanc iBlau’, a program to find newtalent. He was loaned to the HalmstadsBK teams and went on tomake his mark in the domestic leagues and cups playing for UD Melilla, EtarVelikoTarnovo (FK Etar), Locomotiv Sofia and PlataniasChania.
His debut on the Chad national team came in September 2008 against Sudan. On 1 May 2010 he made his first-team debut, coming on as a substitute for Iván Alonso and playing the entire second half against Valencia CF. He has made 14 appearances in all for the Chad national side.

Local lad Sahil Tavora is FC Goa’s selection for the U-23 player that every ISL squad is mandated to have. The 21-year-old has been plying his trade with Dempo previously and was part of the team that gained promotion to the I-League earlier in the year
Speaking of his new team Tavora said, “I’m delighted at the prospect of signing for the club. This is a team that is led by one of the greats of the game and there is a lot to learn from. It is packed with experienced players and I’m excited at the opportunity of working with them. We have performed consistently well for the past two seasons and we want to achieve the same sort of success this season. I’m looking forward to playing my part in a successful campaign. The Dempo midfielder Sahil Tavora is the latest signing to be announced. At 17, Tavora was one of the youngest players ever to sign a professional contract with the Golden Eagles. Hehas attended training camps at Liverpool FC and at a second division club in Brazil. The highlight of the youngster's short career so far came when he scored a brilliant individual goal for Goa-India versus Macau in the 2014 Lusofonia Games.
Fulganco Cardozo hailing from Verna currently plays for Sporting Club de Goa in the I-League and is a member of the Indian national football team as a centre back. Carodozo made his debut for India in the match against Laos earlier this year. He scored his first goal for the India in the same match in 87th minute. Fulganco is a product of the Sesa Football Academy in Goa.
Chennaiyin FC sign John Arne Riise as marquee player
18.08.2016: CFC Press Release : Indian Super League champions Chennaiyin FC is delighted to announce that they have signed Norwegian defender John Arne Riise as their marquee player for the 2016 ISL.
The Liverpool legend had a spell at Delhi Dynamos in ISL 2015 and inspired them to the ISL semis, making 15 appearances and scoring one goal.
After that spell in last year’s ISL, Riise had a short stint at Norwegian club Aalesunds FK earlier this year. He made 10 appearances there between March and May and now joins Chennaiyin on a free transfer. 35-year-old Riise started his career at Aalesunds two decades ago and earned his first move abroad in 1998 when he signed for French club Monaco.
Riise won the French league with Monaco during a three year stint and moved to Liverpool in 2001. He spent seven years at the Merseyside club and became an icon there, winning several major trophies including the UEFA Champions League in 2005.
At Liverpool, he built up a reputation of scoring from long range and freekicks. He also netted 16 goals at international level. After leaving Liverpool in 2008, Riise had spells in Italy’s Roma, Fulham in England and APOEL FC in the Cyprus top division. He is Norway’s most capped player at international level with 110 appearances.
FC GOA CONFIRMS THE SIGNING OF MANDAR RAO DESSAI, ROMEO FERNANDES AND LAXMIKANTH KATTIMANI.
17.08.2016 : PRESS RELEASE FCG : FC GOA has confirmed a trio of signings with the club tying up deals for Romeo Fernandes, Mandar Rao Dessai and Laxmikanth Kattimani.The trio have risen sharply through the ranks in the past two seasons and are seen as vital components of the team. All three players featured heavily last season with Kattimani being Zico’s preferred choice as his custodian between the sticks.
The Vasco lad said, “I’m very pleased that Zico has trusted me with the responsibilities in between the sticks again. The setup last year was great and that was one of the prime reasons for me re-signing with the club. And one doesn’t get to experience the atmosphere of Fatorda anywhere else in the country so that was a definite plus. We nearly won the ISL last year in front of our home crowd but fell just short. I’m sure this year we will mount a similar challenge. We want to give Goa the trophy that the fans of football here so richly deserve.”
Dessai was also a key figure with the club and chipped in with two assists to go along with his three goals and made 14 appearances in a campaign that nearly culminated in the club winning the title. He has since gone on to start in Dempo’s successful push to return to the 1st Division of the I-League and has recently returned from a trip to Spain where he worked with Spanish La Liga side, Villareal.
Fernandes, who shot to fame in the first season of the ISL was also a constant menace on the right wing throughout the season. His ability to accelerate was particularly felt by Delhi Dynamos, against whom he scored two goals in the matter of minutes having just come on in the final match of the group stages. He was also responsible for laying on the assist that got FC Goa on level terms in the final at Fatorda.
Cedric Hengbart dons the yellow jersey again for ISL 2016
16.08.2016 : PRESS RELEASE KB : Cedric Hengbart, the French defender who played a pivotal role in the Kerala Blasters reaching the finals of the first season of the ISL is back donning the yellow jersey once again for ISL 2016.
Soft-spoken and calm but tenacious and committed, the adaptable defender who also has an eye for the goal began his professional football career at 21 when he was drafted by the professional French football team SM Caen. Followed by stints with AJ Auxere FC and AC Ajaccio FC, he has registered 13 goals and 12 assists in 251 Ligue 1 appearances. In his ISL debut, he played 13 matches for Kerala Blasters registering 101 clearances and 49 tackles with the second best passing accuracy of 88.19%.
12.08.2016: ATK Press Release : In their quest for the title in the third season, the title winner of the inaugural season of the Indian Super League and the semi-finalist of the second edition, Atletico de Kolkata announced today that the marquee player for the forthcoming season would be the iconic Portuguese striker Helder Postiga.
A Portuguese international footballer since 2003, Postiga represented his country in two World Cups and three European Championships, helping the nation reach the final at Euro 2004. Postiga made a resounding entry as the youngest marquee player in his first ISL and although it was cut short due to a grave injury, he created a lasting impact in the mind of his Indian fans in the opening game of the season, scoring twice in a 3–2 win versus Chennaiyin FC.
The team management also announced the retention of two key players in the team ranks, Borja Fernandez and Javi Lara, today, who played stellar roles in taking ATK to greater heights on the field. The team management also announced the signing of left back Keegan Pereira on loan from Bengaluru FC and left winger Abinash Ruidas on loan from East Bengal.
Chennaiyin FC sign Eli Sabia
10.08.2016: CFC Press Release : Indian Super League champions Chennaiyin FC is delighted to announce that they have signed Brazilian central defender Eli Sabia for the 2016 edition of the ISL. The 27-year-old from Sao Paulo joins Chennaiyin on a free transfer after the expiry of his contract with Brazilian second tier outfit Sampaio Correa.
Sabia started his career at Sao Paulo-based club Paulista and came through the club’s youth system before going on to make it to their senior team. While at Paulista, Sabia had several loan moves including one to Swiss top division outfit FC Lausanne Sport in 2007-08.
The following season Sabia played in the Brazilian top tier for giants Santos. It was a significant campaign in Santos’ history as Neymar made his breakthrough to the first team with teammate Sabia making 22 appearances.
Eli Sabia also had a loan stint with Atletico Paranaense in the Brazilian top division and in 2011 made a permanent move to Brazilian Serie B club Sao Caetano. He spent five seasons with Caetano which also included loan spells in several clubs around Brazil. Earlier this year he had a short stint with Agua Santa before having a small spell at Sampaio Correa.
“Eli Sabia has had a very good career in Brazil and also has the experience of playing in Europe. He will add quality and solidarity to our defence,” said Chennaiyin FC manager Marco Materazzi.
Chennaiyin FC sign Davide Succi and Maurizio Peluso
06.08.2016: CFC Press Release : Indian Super League champions Chennaiyin FC is delighted to announce that they have signed Italian forwards Davide Succi and Maurizio Peluso for ISL 2016.
34-year-old Succi joins Chennaiyin after the expiry of his contract at Italian Serie B outfit Cesena while 31-year-old Peluso has signed after leaving Italian Serie D club Altovicentino.
Succi started his career at Chievo but he was mainly sent on loan at clubs in the lower tiers of Italy during his time at Chievo. In 2005, he made the permanent switch to Serie B outfit Ravenna and scored plenty of goals there.
His fine form at Ravenna earned him a move to Palermo in 2008 and he scored six goals in the Serie A that season.
Succi spent four years with Palermo which also included loan spells at Bologna and Padova. In 2012 Succi moved to Serie B outfit Cesena and spent four seasons there which included a promotion to the Serie A in 2014.
Peluso has spent his entire career in the lower divisions of Italy with his most recent spell coming at Altovicentino in the Serie D. He scored 31 goals in 59 appearances for Altovicentino in the last two campaigns and is also capable of playing on the wings or as a second striker.
FC Goa officially unveiled Jaydev Mody as the new promoter
04.08.2016: FCG Press Release : FC Goa officially unveiled Jaydev Mody as the new promoter of the club at a media briefing held at Nerul in Goa yesterday. Mr. Mody bought a 65% stake in the club in a personal capacity from the previous owners and has hit the ground running. As part of his address to the media, he confirmed that Brazilian legend Zico, who has become a synonymous figure with the club’s identity, will continue in his capacity as the Head Coach for the third season of the Hero Indian Super League.
Mr. Mody expressed his excitement at taking on this project and outlined his long term vision for the club. Said Mr. Jaydev Mody, Promoter, FC Goa, “Goa has always been a vibrant footballing state and has a rich footballing legacy. Now by becoming a member of the FC Goa family, I have an active part to play in it. The club is a true reflection of the passion the state has for football and we have a responsibility to the people of Goa to give it the support it deserves. This team doesn’t just belong to the promoters. It belongs to every Goan within the country. Every Goan has a part to play in the success of this football club and we want their continued support. We believe that Goa has some serious footballing talent and as part of our vision for the club, we want to ensure we harness that potential. As part of his address, Mr. Mody also announced that Zico was coming back to lead the team at FC Goa. He said,“It was a very simple decision for us really. Zico is a true legend of the game and has been an integral part of the club since its inception. He has an immense amount of knowledge of the game and we are delighted that he will be able to impart that to our boys here at FC Goa. With him at the helm, we expect the team to do very well and give Goa the taste of beautiful football once again this season.”
Zico who was also present at the event added his thoughts at the prospect of coming back to Goa. Said, Zico, Head Coach, FC Goa, “India has been a great experience for me in the past two years and when the management of FC Goa reached out to me, I was happy to come back. The people of Goa have always given me a lot of support and love and I hope that this season we can repay them with our performances on the pitch. I have spoken to Mr. Mody and he has a vision for this club and I’m happy to play my part in this. In terms of this season, we have made some good signings and we will continue to work on the squad which will be built to aim for the title.”

Chennaiyin FC sign Uttam Rai and Daniel Lalhlimpuia
04.08.2016: CFC Press Release : Indian Super League champions Chennaiyin FC is delighted to announce that they have signed India youth internationals Uttam Rai and Daniel Lalhlimpuia as the two developmental players of their first team squad for ISL 2016.
19-year-old striker Uttam has signed a one-year deal with Chennaiyin after the expiry of his contract at Goan outfit Dempo Sports Club while 18-year-old forward Daniel joins CFC on loan from I-League champions Bengaluru FC.
The two forwards have represented India at various age group levels with the duo playing together upfront on some occasions including the final rounds of the 2012 Under-16 Asian Cup.
Uttam, who hails from Sikkim, got his early football education at the Namchi Football Academy after being spotted at “the search for more Bhaichungs program”. He impressed in several youth tournaments before representing India youth teams and went on to have a stint at the IMG Soccer Academy in Florida.
The Sikkimese youngster also had a training stint at Colorado Rush of USA before joining Dempo in 2014. Uttam helped Dempo win back promotion to the I-League as the Goan club won the second division in 2016.
Daniel is from Mizoram and joined the Chandigarh football academy at the age of 10. He spent six years there, scoring plenty of goals in various youth tournaments, before joining the AIFF Elite Academy.
While at the AIFF Elite Academy, Daniel also captained India at U-19 level and went on to sign his first professional contract with Bengaluru last year. He played his part in Benglauru winning the 2015-16 I-League title with his first-ever I-League goal coming in the win over Mumbai FC.
Daniel also made a key contribution in Bengaluru’s progression to the AFC Cup quarter-finals as he scored the winner against Hong Kong’s Kitchee in the round of 16 tie.
03.08.2016: Indian Super League in Kolkata maidan ? It is likely, Mohun Bagan ground will be the home ground of Atletico De Kolkata as Yubabharati Kriangan is under renovation for U-17 World Cup which is schedule in 2017. A group of officials from IMGR and Atletico De Kolkata had an inspection at Mohun Bagan ground followed by a discussion with Mohun Bagan officials, Swapan Sadhan Bose, Srinjay Bose and Debasish Dutta.
The officials of IMGR and Atletico De Kolkata are satisfied with flood lights and ground condition Mohun Bagan, though they have to build the temporary dressing rooms, Referees room, Press Conference room and Dope taste room for the tournament.
But, the entire process will finalize after getting permission from the Army.Sources said that Government of West Bengal and IMGR will initiate for permission from Army head quarters and even they may proceed to the Ministers at Delhi.
CHENNALYIN FC MEDIA RELEASE - 02.08.2016: Indian Super League champions Chennaiyin FC is delighted to announce that they have signed two-time I-League winner Siam Hanghal on a one-year deal. Hanghal joins Chennaiyin after ending a successful three-year spell with Bengaluru FC, where he won two I-League titles and one Federation Cup. The central midfielder from Manipur was on loan from Bengaluru to NorthEast United during the 2015 ISL and made 12 appearances.
The 23-year-old had a stint at the renowned Tata Football Academy during the early days of his career before joining AIFF’s developmental side Arrows. Hanghal was loaned out to DSK Shivajians from Arrows and he played for the Pune-based club in the I-League second division. In 2013, he joined newly-formed Bengaluru FC and was instrumental in their maiden I-League triumph as he started in 21 of their 24 matches. The medio made six appearances in the 2015 AFC Cup and also helped Bengaluru win the Federation Cup that season.
With NorthEast, Hanghal narrowly missed out on the 2015 ISL semis but was one of the standout Indian midfielders of the tournament. He returned to Bengaluru after the ISL and helped them win the I-League and reach the AFC Cup quarter-finals for the first time. “Hanghal is a very talented midfielder and had a good season in the ISL last year including the game against us in Chennai. He is a good addition to our midfield,” Chennaiyin FC head coach Marco Materazzi said.
Hanghal has also represented India at U-23 level and is looking forward to his new journey with Chennaiyin.
