Mumbai City FC has signed keeper Amrinder Singh

07.09.2016 : MCFC MEDIA RELEASE : Mumbai City FC today announced the signing of Amrinder Singh for ISL 2016. A young and talented player, Singh won the hearts of many during the last season of the Indian Super League with Atletico de Kolkata.

Amrinder Singh studied at the Sports Wing Academy, an institution run by the Punjab government. Starting off as a striker, Singh turned to goalkeeping when his coach steered him in that direction. With his impressive built and natural instincts, the move proved to be a massive turning point in his career.

Excelling in both the under-17 and under-19 teams, he won the Dr. BC Roy Trophy for Punjab. He joined the Pune FC under -19 team in 2011, and later went on to join their first team. He kicked off his international career at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games with the India under-23 team.

Amrinder captained the Indian team at the AFC under-23 championship qualifiers in Bangladesh in 2016. He played an important role with Atletico de Kolkata in the last season of the ISL and contributed to Bengaluru FC's 2015-16 title winning season, thus becoming a permanent fixture in the senior national team squad.


Mumbai City FC retains star Striker Sunil Chhetri

06.09.2016 : MCFC MEDIA RELEASE : Mumbai City FC have retained Indian captain and striker Sunil Chhetri for the third season of the Indian Super League. The 32 year old will return to the club for the second time, resuming the role of star striker for the squad. With 51 international goals to his name, Sunil Chhetri is India’s highest goal scorer and is also Bengaluru FC's top scorer for the 2015-2016 season of the I-League.

Beginning his professional football career with Mohun Bagan, Chhetri went on to become the first Indian footballer to participate in a Major League Soccer squad with the Kansas City Wizards. He later represented Sporting Clube de Portugal B team. Chhetri has also represented some of the biggest teams in Indian football and has been a part of Dempo SC, East Bengal, Mohun Bagan & Bengaluru FC.

Scoring twice in his second game, Chhetri lead Mumbai City FC to their first win of the 2015 season. With an impressive seven goals last year, which included a hat-trick against North East United, Chhetri is all set to better his game and put his best foot forward this year.

Having its fair share of international players, Chhetri shone during ISL 2015 and was the highest scoring Indian in the league. Chhetri’s sharp tackles and excellent attacking tendencies have made him a strong force to be reckoned with. Winning the I-league with Bengaluru FC, Chhetri is all set to raise the bar higher and pull out all stops to help Mumbai City FC reach the finals this season.


FC Goa signs Rafael Dumas, Trindade Goncalves and Richarlyson

06.09.2016 : FCG MEDIA RELEASE : FC Goa has announced the signing of three new Brazilian players for the first team squad ahead of the third edition of the Hero Indian Super League. Defender Rafael Dumas and midfielders Richarlyson and Trindade Goncalves have penned a deal that will see them represent Zico's men this season

21 year old defender Rafael Dumas has been loaned from Brazilian side Flamengo where he plays as a center half. Speed is his forte and he uses this to his advantage to chase and close down attackers.

Having played in the junior side of the famed Brazilian team and helping the side win the Junior Campeonato Carioca in 2015, he was promoted to the senior team where he has made one appearance so far. Impressed by his performances in the junior league, Zico gave him the opportunity to join the Indian side to showcase his skills. Alongside veterans like Gregory Arnolin, World Cup winner Lucio and Luciano Sobrosa, the youngster will hope to leave his mark on the tournament.

Trindade Goncalves has played a number of junior tournaments in Brazil as well. The 20 year old played in the Copa Sao Paulo de Futbol Junior against rivals Corinthians and scored a goal while also converting a penalty in the shootout to win the contest. A defensive midfielder by trade, Trindade is adept at shielding the defensive from attacks using his speed and technique.

Richarlyson is the most decorated of the three players. Having represented the national team on two occasions, he has also won numerous domestic titles including the Brazilian league in 2006, 2007 and 2008 with Sao Paulo. The 33 year old is a versatile player and while he plays predominantly in front of the defence, he can also slot in comfortably in the heart of the defence or at left full back. With experience on his side, he will be an asset to Zico's team during the ISL and will help the progression of the younger Brazilians and Indian players as well.


Kerala Blasters sign Haitian footballer Duckens Nazon

06.09.2016 : Kerala Blasters MEDIA RELEASE : Duckens Nazon the 22 year old top scorer for Haiti in last year’s CONCACAF Gold Cup will be donning the yellow jersey this season for Indian Super League 2016.

After going through the Vannes Olympique Club, the forward signed with the U19 team FC Lorient in July 2013. The charismatic forward Nazon at just 21 enjoyed a mercurial rise to the Haitian national side. He was born in the rough Paris suburb of Paris in Chatenay-Malabry. Owing to his Haitian ancestry, he was called up for the island’s U-21s. He took up the offer and made his full-team debut shortly after in 2014.

In the 2015 Gold Cup, Duckens Nazon was a hero for Haiti. Nazon scored the only two goals for Haiti in the 2015 Gold Cup group stage, helping his team get second place and advancing to the knockout stages. He was also an integral part of Haiti’s 2016 Copa America Centanario squad.

On his signing the attacker Duckens Nazon said, “I am delighted to be part of this fantastic team Kerala Blasters FC. It is an opportunity for me to bring the flavours of Haitian football to India. I thank the management for showing faith in me. I am looking forward to working with Coach Steve Coppell and my teammates.”


Argentine Full back Facundo Cardozo set to strike for Mumbai City FC

02.09.2016 : MCFC MEDIA RELEASE : Mumbai City FC announces the signing of young Facundo Cardozo for the Indian Super League (ISL) Season 3. He will be seen sharing the ground with his countrymen Matias Defederico and Gaston Sangoy.

The 21-year-old is known as a versatile player due to his previous strong performances with the ball. Cardozo made his league debut during the 2013-14 season and scored first goal against Quilmes.

Despite his young age, he has already played for top teams in Argentina and Bolivia. He was part of the Argentine u-17 World Cup squad in 2011. With more than 40 league performances Cardozo has won the Argentine Super Cup, in the 2013-14 season.

Sharing his thoughts on the new recruit, Indranil Das Blah, CEO, Mumbai City FC said, “Facundo is a highly rated young defender. His accolades at the youth level speak a lot about the quality of the player, and we are really excited to have him join the team.”

Speaking on the appointment, Facundo Cardozo expressed, “I am very excited to be part of this club. I have spoken to the coach and am really happy to be part of his vision. I cannot wait to join the team and play for the fans of Mumbai.” Mumbai City FC has signed Facundo Cardozo on loan deal from his Argentinian parent Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield.


FC Goa re-sign Lucio as marquee player

02.09.2016 : FCG MEDIA RELEASE : World Cup and UEFA Champions League winning central defender Lucimar Ferreira da Silva (Lucio) re-signed for FC Goa for the upcoming third edition of the Hero Indian Super League. Consistency was the key for head coach, Zico who decided to retain the spine of the team that reached the finals of the second edition of the Hero Indian Super League. Lucio won the treble (Seria A, UEFA Champions League and Coppa Italia) in 2010 under present Manchester United head coach Jose Mourinho after strong performances in the heart of the defence for Internazionale in Italy. He also played for Bayer Leverkusen and German giants Bayern Munich prior to joining Inter. Along with his strong showing for his club, Lucio was a mainstay in the Brazil National Team with 105 appearances at the heart of the defence, scoring four goals in the process and helping Brazil to win the 2002 World Cup, having played every minute of the competition.

He joined the Indian Super League in 2015 when he signed for FC Goa to play under felloe Brazilian Zico. Zico threw the captain's armband to Lucio primarily due to his wealth of experience playing football in Europe and South America. Alongside Martinique powerhouse Gregory Arnolin, Lucio was one of the main reasons for FC Goa's superb run to the finals of the ISL in 2015. His aerial prowess and ability to intercept were key attributes in making him one of the fittest marquee players of the second edition of the tournament. He regularly stopped opposition attacks in their tracks and started attacking moves of his own for his side.

For the third edition of the Indian Super League, Zico decided to keep faith with the 38 year old. Lucio will hope to lead his team to the final once more in 2016 and hopefully go all the way this year in his second attempt at the title.


Chennaiyin FC sign Dudu Omagbemi

01.09.2016 : CFC MEDIA RELEASE : Indian Super League champions Chennaiyin FC is delighted to announce that they have signed Nigerian forward Dudu Macpherlin Omagbemi for the 2016 edition of the ISL. The 31-year-old joins Chennaiyin on a free transfer after the expiry of his contract with Finland second division outfit FC Haka.

Dudu has played in both seasons of the ISL – FC Pune City (2014) and FC Goa (2015) – and is joint sixth in the all-time highest scorers of the competition with seven goals in 15 starts. The Nigerian is also one of seven players to have scored a hattrick in the ISL with his treble coming in FC Goa’s record 7-0 victory over Mumbai City FC last year.

Even before ISL, Dudu had plenty of experience playing in India with stints at Sporting Clube de Goa, Dempo and Salgaocar. In Europe, he has had spells in the top tiers of Poland, Hungary and Finland. During his time with Hungary’s Debrecen he also played in the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Champions League.

Dudu, who has also played for both Kolkata giants East Bengal and Mohun Bagan, joined FC Haka in the Finland second tier after helping FC Goa finish runners-up in ISL 2015. He scored 6 goals in 13 appearances for FC Haka.
