Bethlehem Vengthlang FC lifted Mizoram Super Cup defeating I League club Aizawl FC
MFA PRESS RELEASE:05.09.2015: The double champion Aizawl FC suffered a defeat under their new Spanish coach Manuel Retamero at the Mizoram Football Association Super Cup 2015 played at Lammual stadium, Aizawl on 4th September (Friday) where they were defeated 2-1 by Bethlehem Vengthlang FC.
This match was a re-match of the Independence Day Cup final which Aizawl FC won in extra time after trailing for most part of the match; but it was a different different story in the MFA Cup where the new boys Bethlehem Vengthlang FC fought out a well deserved victory.
MFA Super Cup is a one off match played between the champions of Mizoram Premier League and Independence Day Cup where Aizawl FC were double champions, which paved the way for the runner up of the Independence Day Cup Bethlehem Vengthlang FC to compete in the match.
Aizawl FC started brighter, their Liberian striker Alfred missed two glorious chances and captain David Lalrinmuana also missing from close range. Bethlehem Vengthlang FC, who were in the backfoot for most part of the first half also wasted a scoring opportunity where their hard working midfielder Lalrinchhana missed a sitter.
The breakthrough occured when a quick inter change of passes split the Aizawl FC back four in the 43rd minute and a dimunitive striker MS Dawngliana scored a very well set up team goal.
It was Bethlehem Vengthlang FC who started better in the second half and created two clear scoring opportunities which they could not convert. They were hit back by Aizawl FC on a counter attack after Liberian striker Alfred out muscled the Bethlehem Vengthlang FC defenders assisted Michael Lalremruata who equalised in the 56th minute.
When it looks like the match will go to extra time as it was in the Independence Day Cup final, the local boy Laldingngheta scored the winner after collecting a killer pass from Lalrinfela Zote in the 86th minute.
Aizawl FC, the first club from Mizoram who qualified for the I League suffered defeat in their first competitive match under their UEFA Pro License holder Spanish coach who later said that he needed time to really understand his boys. Retamero joined the team on 16th August, he was there just in time to witnessed Aizawl FC lifting the Independence Day Cup on 15th August; but its a different story under his new reign.
Lalsangzuala Hmar, the winning coach was all praise for his boys, "It was the sheer determination and hard work of my boys which brought us the trophy. This will boost the confidence of my team for the coming Mizoram Premier League," said the boss.
Mizoram Premier League will start on 10th September, 2015 where eight top clubs of the state will participate, defending champion Aizawl FC will kick off the league against Chanmari West FC.
