EAST BENGAL OBSERVED 98TH BIRTHDAY



KFC NEWS DESK - 1.8.17 East Bengal Club of Kolkata today observed it's 98th birthday. In a colorful function at the Netaji Indoor stadium in the evening Red and Gold felicitated a number of Sports personality in presence of Sports Minister of West Bengal Arup Biswas and a host of dignitary and members and supporters.

Dhanraj Pillay, one of the India's finest hockey player were honored with "BHARAT GAURAV" award. Dhanraj Pillai participated in World Cup, Olympics, Asian Games and Champions trophy with unique distinction.


The man who was successful in national and international level both as a footballer and coach, Sayed Nayeemuddin, were felicitated with "LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT" award.In fact Sayed Nayeemuddin is the only footballer in the history of Indian football who is the recipient of ARJUNA AWARD(1970), and DRONACHARYA AWARD(1992). Nayeemuddin was felicitated with Nasa Sen Memorial Trophy and a cash award of Rs 1 lack.



In the year 2003 East Bengal proved it's supremacy in an international tournament at Indonesia. The man who lead East Bengal to win the prestigious ASEAN CUP was Subash Bhowmick. Bhowmick was instrumental to build up a new infrastructure in East Bengal and won a number of tournaments as a coach in East Bengal.



Subash Bhowmick was a successful footballer during the seventies played for East Bengal and as well as Mohun Bagan. He was the member of the Indian national team that won the bronze medal at Bangkok Asian games in the year 1970. Subash Bhowmick was felicitated with Bomkesh Bose Memorial trophy and a cash award of Rs 1 lack..



The tough and hard working central defender, who was the member of East Bengal which won the CFL for a record number of seven consecutive years 2010-2016 Gurwinder Singh were felicitated with PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD. Gurwinder was the recipent of a Golden Boot and Banwarilal Memorial award.



The ex FIFA referee Chaitaly Paul and ex FIFA Assistant referee Dhanapati Ray were awarded with Pratul Chakraborty and Pankaj Gupta memorial trophy respectively for their contribution in football.



In the morning at the club tent the flag was hosted by the club secretary Kalyan Mazumdar and East Bengal captain Arnab Mondal in presence of the footballers and supporters.
