SAFF WOMEN CHAMPIONSHIP 2012

AIFF General Secretary Mr. Kushal Das also congratulated the Women's Team on the victory. "Keep up the spirit. Congratulations," he said. “The victory further emphasises AIFF's keenness to develop Women's Football in India. The Senior National Women's Championship conducted earlier this year opened up the pool of talent and the results are evident. We now look forward for Indian Women squads to further make an impact at the AFC level."

Bala Devi took her tally to sixteen goals - the highest scored in a single edition of the championship - finding the net four times with Kamala and Prameshwori Devi also getting on the scorsheet. Nepal who have been India's companion in the finals on all three occasions tried to put up a stiff resistance in the opening stages but were breached just after the first quarter with Kamala latching on to a neat pass from Prameshwori to break the deadlock.

Nepal got all their force to man the backline and bottle up Bala in particular. But goal-machine from Manipur soon got on the act with a delectable volley in the 39th minute only to double her tally one minute later. It was 3-0 at halftime. India showed no mercy on their familiar foes post the breather with the final score reading 6-0. There was no stopping Bala as she completed her hattrick from close range at the start of the second half, also stabbing home her fourth at the death this time from a Premi Devi through ball. In between Bala’s exploits, Prameshwori curled one in from the top of the box.

Just to measure the extent of India's supremacy in the tournament, the 53rd ranked team plundered a total of 36 goals in the five matches they played, conceding only once against Bangladesh.

AIFF PRESS RELEASE : There is no stopping the India Women's Senior National Team juggernaut at the 3rd SAFF Women's Championship. As if recording mammoth wins against Maldives and Bangladesh were not enough, the women in blue made Afghanistan look like they were playing a different sport, crushing their opponents with a ruthless 12-0 win in their last Group A engagement in Islamabad, Pakistan on Monday (November 17, 2014).

Striker Bala Devi extended her purple patch scoring another five goals for her country, (4’, 12’, 33’, 38’ 83’) while attackers Prameshwori (28’, 47’, 68’)and Indumathi Devi (3’, 6’, 51’) notched up hattricks either side of halftime. 15 November 2014 : India ( 5-1 ) Bangladesh
IND : Bala Devi - 2, Mandakini, Indumathi, Umapathi

AIFF PRESS RELEASE : NEW DELHI: India Senior Women's National Team bettered India U-16 Team's performance recently in the AFC Qualifiers against Bangladesh, as they swept aside their neighbours 5-1 in a Group A tie of the 3rd SAFF Women’s Championship in Islamabad, Pakistan on Saturday (November 15, 2014).

India U-16 girls had rallied to beat Bangladesh 2-1 in Dhaka last month. But no such discomforts were seen in the senior women's display as they bossed their counterparts from start to finish, scoring heavily in the second period with the score reading 1-0 at halftime. Courtesy the win, India are now on six points from two outings and will take on Afghanistan next in the last Group A game on Monday ( November 17).

Striker Bala Devi was on target twice with Upamati Devi, Mandakini Devi, and Indumathi also getting on the scoresheet.Just when it looked like the girls in green had done enough to thwart India in the first 45 minutes, left back Upamati broke the deadlock in first-half added time when she raced some 30 yards before playing one-two with Bembem Devi and finding the back of the net with ease from close range.

Any signs of a Bangladesh comeback were buried after the restart as the twice SAFF champions turned on the heat netting four times before the final whistle. Halftime substitute Mandakini Devi came off the bench to score after four minutes, tucking in from a Prameshwori Devi low cross from the left flank.

Bala was then brought down inside the area and she converted from the spot with aplomb to make it 3-0 in the 57th minute. Right winger Indumathi piled more misery on Bangladesh in the 76th minute, skipping past the last defender and sending her shot diagonally into the far corner for India's fourth.

With the match three minutes from full time, Bala put the finishing touches on the marauding victory by netting in clinical fashion following a swift shimmy into the area. In between her strike, Bangladesh got late a consolation in the 85th minute.
