SFA PRESS RELEASE : 07.08.2013: : The 2nd Division S-League for the current Football Season has been successfully completed on 07 August, 2013 at the Paljor Stadium where eight Clubs participated for the top two positions so that they move to the prestigious First Div. S-League for the next Soccer Season. Sikkim Himalayan SC (Red) and AAkraman XI joined this year's S League when they qualified and topped the thirty three teams in the qualifying round held in June- July this year.
The main focus of the SFA was to promote the young budding talents of the state and give them the opportunity to expose their talents in consonance with the theme of the league "TALENTS MEET OPPORTUNITY". To achieve this aim it is made mandatory for each club to include at least 10 Under-19 players in their allotted 25 players. Interestingly five out of eight teams participating in the League are from rural Sikkim and only three are from the Capital city of Gangtok. Our talent lies in the Rural Sikkim and SFA is committed to promote these talents at the right time.
Over a thousand players from 39 clubs participated in the qualifying round and the main 2nd Division S-League -2013 out of which more than 600 players were U-19 players who got the opportunity to expose and show case their talents. During the course of the competition, SFA had appointed special spotters to short list the most talented U-19 players and the process will continue during the fourth coming Senior Division S-League. The Association will be creating a "Players Bank" in different age groups with constant coaching programs and monitoring schedules.
Sikkim Himalayan Sporting Club has emerged as the Champion Club in the 2nd Division S-League-2013 in the overall League Standing with 18 points and Dzongri Sporting Club managed to hang at the second position with 16 points. Both these clubs gets promoted to the Senior Division S-League for the 2014 Soccer Season.
While Dzongri Sporting Club is able to retain its position in the elite group of clubs after it got relegated last year, the Sikkim Himalayan Sporting Club, a new outfit started its journey from the qualifying round of the 2nd Div. S-League along with 32 teams and ended up in becoming its champion, surely a commendable achievement after a long journey.
The Sikkim Football Association in its effort to motivate and as gesture of goodwill to the young player, of the State decided in the recent executive Committee Meeting to allow all such players who participated in the 2nd Div. S-League and those local players registered with the senior Div. S-League free entry to such tournaments organized by SFA including the All India Governor's Gold Cup tournament on production of Identity Card issued by the Association.
While the Independence Day Football tournament will start from 8th August 2013, the Sr. Div. S-League will start from the 23rd August 2013.
