BFC Press Release : Bengaluru FC played out a 0-0 draw with Mohun Bagan in a Group B encounter of the Federation Cup at the Tilak Maidan, in Vasco, on Tuesday. Having only played 48 hours earlier, Bengaluru showed no signs of being jaded in a game that saw both teams have shots come off the post in the second half.

Ringing in just one change from the team that beat Salgaocar on Sunday, Bengaluru started with Darren Caldeira for Eugeneson Lyngdoh. Bagan, having shopped heavily this summer, chose to start with Balwant Singh and Sony Norde ahead.

However, it was Bagan's usual suspect, Japanese midfielder Katsumi Yusa who was orchestrating chances in the first half. He first slid Pierre Boya through who, after turning his marker in the 10th minute, shot straight at Lalthuammawia Ralte. Bagan's other chance came in added time of the first half when all Balwant Singh could do with Yusa's delicate floater was tamely head it to Ralte.

Bengaluru too had chances in the first half that they should have finished off. Receiving the ball on the right, Beikhokhei Beingaichho swiveled and turned before sending in a cross that beat the Bagan defence but was inches above a leaping Caldeira who had looked like nodding the Blues to a lead.

The second half saw both teams working hard to make forays but the defences at either ends refused to give too much. Bengaluru introduced Robin Singh for Thoi Singh on the hour mark and only five minutes later, was denied by the post. A move worked down the left ended with Sean Rooney crossing for Robin whose header from close looked to have beat Shilton Paul only for it to come off the far post.

Bagan had their own woes with the post in the 76th minute when Norde let fly a rasping strike that ricocheted off the post. With less than ten minutes to the whistle, Bengaluru came close again. CK Vineeth, brought on for Beingaichho, zipped down the right and cut one back. However, Rooney had taken a step too many and his attempt to drag back and flick the ball around his heel, didn't have enough on it.

Bengaluru FC have now played two games and sit atop Group B with four points. The Blues have a well-deserved two-day gap before they take on Shillong Lajong on January 2.

FED CUP 2014-15: Bagan are a strong team but we are confident: Rooney.

BFC Press Release : Bengaluru FC will look to beat hectic scheduling and build on their winning start to the Federation Cup when they face Mohun Bagan in a Group B game at the Tilak Maidan, in Vasco, on Tuesday.

The Blues put in the hard yards in Sunday's opener against Salgaocar where they came out 3-2 winners courtesy a Sunil Chhetri brace and a Sean Rooney goal and despite just a day to recoup, look all set to take the charge to Bagan.

Bengaluru FC share history with Bagan as the Kolkata side were opponents in the Blues' first ever competitive game a 1-1 draw at the Bangalore Football Stadium in the I-League last season. The last time the sides met was in the League's return leg where a thunderbolt from Sean Rooney saw Bengaluru come away with a vital 1-2 result at the Salt Lake Stadium. Incidentally, Rooney had a goal in the draw at home too and would only be keen to make it three in as many games against the Kolkata club.

"I hadn't realized that I've scored both times we've played Bagan and I would love to do it again. They are a good team but at the moment, there's no team with confidence like ours," said the Australian striker

Bagan have done a fair bit of a rejig to their squad over the summer, shoring the attack with the signings of Cameroon international Pierre Boya, Haitian Sony Norde, Balwant Singh and Jeje Lalpekhlua. The Mariners have even roped in defenders Bello Razaq, Anwar Ali and Dhanchandra Singh apart from bringing in young midfielder Souvik Chakraborty from United SC.

Asked about what he thought of Sunday's game, Rooney said the team was pleased with the work rate and the outcome. "It was an exciting first half and a compact show by the defence in the second. We dominated the game and came away with a win we deserved. About playing a second game in three days, I don't see it as too much of a problem. We've done all the right things at our recovery sessions and we will be as fresh as ever when we take the pitch on Tuesday."

Bengaluru have no injury worries but with a rather strong bench, it will be interesting to see if the I-League champions' think tank rings in any changes for the big clash.
