SLFC PRESS RELEASE : Shillong Lajong FC lost their second Group C match against Mohun Bagan by 6 goals at the JN Stadium Kochi on Saturday. Mohun Bagan were the first to create the scare right away in the first minute when Katsumi Yusa provided Odafa with a brilliant pass only for his shot to be saved brilliantly by Lajong Goalkeeper Ralte.

Ralte was kept busy again in the next few minutes with another attack from the Kolkata side, finding Chizoba upfront whose shot was blocked by an even better save from Ralte. Ralte's selection over Vinay Singh proved to be working only up until the 9th minute when Odafa scored off a crambled ball after Yusa's corner found no one in the box.

Lajong tried to find their pace again after conceding the first goal but it was all in vain when Mohun Bagan found their second goal through Christopher Chizoba's brilliant individual play in the 23rd minute after making some space for himself and scoring with a thunderous strike.

Lajong had some chances of their own but failed to convert all those chances. The Reds even won 10 corners in the first half but failed to score from any set piece. Mohun Bagan however caught the Lajong defence sleeping once again after Yusa's offside trap worked in his favour when he found only the keeper to beat.

Yusa took his chance and put the ball through Ralte's legs to score Bagan's third in the 30th minute and placed The Mariners in the driving seat. The first half ended with much to think for the Shillong Lajong players and coach Thangboi Singto.

Mohun Bagan began the second with much of the pace from the first half and created a lot of chances in front of goal as well. The closest chance came in the 59th minute when Mundampara's shot was saved by the crossbar. Just seconds after the miss another chance came through from Yusa's pass to Chizoba who ran through Milan Singh and saw his shot fly into the net as Ralte couldn't keep it out.

Thangboi Singto never found any tactic work out for his team as Lajong found no clear cut chances on goal and were always on the backfoot. In the 76th minute Bagan added a fifth through Odafa who ran into the box beating Jibon Singh and a scramble sent the ball in the air to which Odafa's acrobatic kick sent the ball into the net once again.

Lajong even though trounced were still trying to find some kind of a consolation goal but it was The Mariners who struck once again in the 92nd minute through a brilliant Ram Malik pass across goal which found the unmarked Ujjal Howladar with a tap in and scored his side's 6th goal of the match. Shillong Lajong will take on Mumbai FC on the 21st of January at the JN Stadium, Kochi.

18.01.2014 (Cochi): Mumbai FC   1-2   Salgaocar SC ( FT ..)
SAL : Mathew 12'

Mumbai FC's slumped to a second consecutive defeat in the group stage going down 1-2 to Salgaocar FC in their Group-B Round 2 clash at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi on Saturday. Defender Matthew Foschini (12th minute) gave Salgaocar the lead before attacker N. P. Pradeep (46th) equalised for Mumbai FC. However, a penalty-conversion by Gilbert Olivera (74th) handed the Goans all three points.

Both teams went down to ten men in the final stages of the match after Rohit Mirza (MFC) and Clifton Dias (SAL) were sent off for two bookings. The loss also ended Mumbai FC's hopes of progressing into the next stage. Salgaocar took the lead in the 12th minute on a freekick earned after defender Anwar Ali fouled striker Daryll Duffy. Foschini stepped up and scored directly on the set-piece. Soaking pressure for majority of the half, Mumbai FC went into the break trailing 0-1.

However, Mumbai FC had the best possible start to the second half as they equalised almost instantly. After striker Ezeh Henry did well to hold on to the ball, he found Pradeep on the run and the attacker scored with a first time shot.Salgaocar once again took the lead midway through the half. After substitute Mirza handled the ball inside the box, Gilbert stepped up and made no mistake from the spot converting the penalty.

Mumbai FC went close to equalise in the 80th minute when Yusif Yakubu's header off Nicholas Rodrigues' freekick was palmed over by Salgaocar 'keeper Karanjit Singh. Five minutes later, Mumbai FC had a glorious chance when Henry was fouled inside the box by defender Chika Wali and the referee pointed to the spot.

Yakubu, who stepped up to take the spot kick, saw his attempt come off the woodwork as the opportunity went abegging.Mumbai FC tried to press in the final minutes but Salgaocar held on or the win.

18.01.2014 (Manjeri): Bengaluru FC  1-1   Rangdajied UFC.( FT )
BEN : Thoi Singh 7'
RUFC: Tamba 81'
BFC XI : Pawan, Osano, Sean, John, Menyongar, Chhetri, Thoi, Rino, Beikho, Hanghal, Keegan.
. RUFC XI : Surjay, Tamba, David, Lyngdoh, Edmar, Thomas, Gouramangi ,Yong, Lugun, Tomba, Iwasaki.

Bengaluru FC missed chance to avert last round drama and qualify for the semifinal of the Federation Cup when they conceded late goal to draw 1-1 with Rangdajied United at the MDSC Stadium, in Manjeri, on Saturday. The result meant Group B is still wide open after Sporting Clube de Goa beat East Bengal 2-1 in an earlier fixture.

Rangdajied defender Lamine Tamba headed home in the 80th minute to cancel out Thoi Singh’s early opener. Bengaluru FC coach Ashley Westwood started with the same team that beat Sporting Clube de Goa 5-3.

Like in the game against Sporting Clube de Goa, Bengaluru blitzed off to a dream start, only this time, much sooner. Siam Hanghal slid one through the centre that Thoi, with his pace, reached and latched on to before slotting past 'keeper Surjay Pariyar's right.

Bengaluru kept stringing good, swift moves but the effort was often blanked in the attacking third. Rangdajied, on their part, didn't do much to warranty an equlaiser. Their best chance came in the 13th minute when John Menyongar lost possession to Edmar Figueira in a dangerous position but John Johnson stepped up with a timely challenge to avert danger.

The second half didn't see either side looking to do anything that would change the game as Bengaluru were keener to own possession and kill the tie off. However, the absence of a second goal came to haunt the Blue when Tamba jumped high to head home Rangdajied’s goal from a freekick.

At the end of two rounds, Bengaluru FC lead the table with 4 points, Sporting Clube de Goa have 3, Rangdajied have 2 and East Bengal have 1. Bengaluru play their last league game against the Kolkata team on the 21st, the same day as Sporting take on Rangdajied.
