Chennai, who had wowed the fans with their exciting brand of football, pipped Kolkata giants Quess East Bengal by just one point, in yet another race to the finish that lasted till the final day of the season. “We have put Tamil Nadu football in the map with this win, and I’m very happy that the state is getting the recognition. Also, I’m delighted that more and more local players have come through and won the Hero I-League medal,” said Chennai City co-owner Rohith Ramesh.
The Hero I-League trophy was handed over to the Coimbatore-based club by All India Football Federation General Secretary Kushal Das and I-League CEO Sunando Dhar.
Mr. Das stressed on the importance of strategic planning that got the club to the title. He said, “Chennai City FC’s triumph this season has been a true testament of their planning, strategising and execution. I, on the behalf of the AIFF, would like to congratulate Rohith Ramesh and the entire Chennai City FC for their achievement, that too only in their third year in the top flight of Indian Football.”Mr. Dhar marvelled at the fact that a club that was formed a little over three years back, has been able to topple the traditional giants of the game and gone on to win the prestigious title.
“It’s a stupendous achievement by the club, to win the Hero I-League trophy within just three-and-a-half years of its existence. I would like to send my heartiest congratulations to the owners, club management, and the players for this brilliant win,” he said.
Along with the Hero I-League trophy, the individual and the club awards for the season was also announced.
11 Clubs from 10 States to vie for the 12th Hero I-League honours
: The 12th edition of Hero I-League - India's top football league, was officially launched at a glittering ceremony in the nation’s capital on Tuesday.

The premier football league of the country that kicks off on October 26, 2018, will see 11 teams battling it out for the top honors over a period of six months. This season, fans will witness for the first time top-flight football entering the valley state of Jammu & Kashmir with Real Kashmir FC making its much-awaited debut. Real Kashmir FC was recently promoted to the Hero I-league after a stupendous run and title win in the second division league last season.
The Hero I-League, the country’s premier football league boasts of a larger presence this year with teams representing all parts of the country viz; North, South, East & West. A total of 11 teams covering 10 states would be seen battling it out for the top honors of the country’s premier football league.
The Hero I-League this year will be broadcast LIVE & Exclusive on the Star Sports Network and their digital platform Hotstar along with Jio TV. The 12th edition will also be rewarding for the players with significant prize money at stake for the top teams - Winners (Rs 1 Crore), Runners Up (Rs 60 Lakh), Third Place (Rs 40 Lakhs) and Fourth Place (Rs 25 Lakhs).
“We are very happy to welcome Real Kashmir FC to the league. The pan Indian presence of the League has been its unique feature in the last few editions. Furthermore, with the valley state entering top-flight football this season, the Hero I-League yet again stands true testimony to how it has played a critical role in spreading the game to all corners of the country,” said Mr. Praful Patel, President, All India Football Federation.
“The Hero I-League has been scouting and nurturing current and future stars of Indian Football over the years. This year we have 11 teams from 10 states fighting for the top honours in the 12th edition. I wish luck to all the participating teams,” Mr. Kushal Das, General Secretary, All India Football Federation stated.

The 11 teams from 10 states of the 12th Hero I-League are – Defending Champions Minerva Punjab FC (Punjab), Aizawl FC (Mizoram), NEROCA FC (Manipur), Shillong Lajong FC (Meghalaya), Mohun Bagan & Quess East Bengal (West Bengal), Gokulam Kerala FC (Kerala), Churchill Brothers FC Goa (Goa), Indian Arrows, Chennai City FC (Tamil Nadu), Real Kashmir FC (Jammu & Kashmir)
The first match will kick off on October 26, 2018 between Chennai City FC and Indian Arrows at Coimbatore from 17:00 hrs onwards
I-LEAGUE SIDE GOKULAM FC WILL unveil jersey and kit

: Gokulam Kerala FC will unveil jersey and kit for the Hero I-League season 2018-19 in a grand function at Kozhikode Beach at 6 PM on Saturday (October 20). Renowned Malayalam music band Thaikkudam Bridge will perform and launch fan anthem during the function. The function is open for all the public.
Gokulam Kerala FC will also launch its ticket sale and fans will have the opportunity to grab season tickets and opening match tickets at the function. This year the custom made jerseys have been derived from the Gokulam Kerala FC logo and will have distinct colours. The club has also changed its away kit. All the jerseys and kits will be unveiled in the function and the entire team will be at the function.
Fans can grab their tickets through the paytm app and website. Also, the tickets will be available at the Gokulam offices across the state. Tickets will be also sold at stadium on match days.

Gokulam Kerala FC play their first home match against Mohun Bagan on October 27 th. The other home matches are as follows –Chennai City (November 4), Shillong Lajong FC (November 11), Minerva Punjab (November 18), Churchill Brothers (November 30), Real Kashmir FC (December 15), Aizawl FC (February 10), Indian Arrows (February 16) and Neroca FC (March 3). The final home match is against East Bengal, for which the date has not been decided yet.
