Chile were the second team from Group B won their first match against Australia by a margin of 3-1, but stunned the football fanatics, when they overcome the defending champions Spain by a brace. On the contrary Brazil topped the Group A, but the performance so far in the tournament are not to the desired expectation.

Undoubtedly, Brazil are the favourites against Chile, but it can be mentioned that the striking force of the host nation are not at it's best. While the opportunist Neymer Junior had scored four goals in the Group stages but his partners Fred and Oscar are yet to prove their best. Oscar generally controls the Brazilaian midfeild should have to be much more perfect in feeding his upfront in the knockout stages.
5 times World champion Brazil is still unbeaten in 40 matches at home soil, their last defeat 0-1 came in August 2002 in a friendly against Paraguay.

  • Chile was unable to win any match in Brazilian soil, losing 20 and drawing 6 out of 26 encounters so far.
  • The last time that Brazil lost a World Cup match in the second round/Round of 16 of the competition was 1990 Italy World Cup. Lost to arch rivals Argentina 0-1.
  • Brazil have won their last five second round/Round of 16 matches at the World Cup, scoring 13 goals.

  • Neymar's first goal against Cameroon was the 100th scored at the 2014 World Cup finals. It also came in Brazil's 100th World Cup match. Brazil won 4-1.
  • In the year 1950 at Brazil, the Brazilian team entered gr. winner from Group ' A' in 4 teams Final pool from 1st Round and played their 1st match against Sweden and won 7-1. Ademir scored 4 , chicho scored 2. This year Brazil entered in Round of 16 as GR. A winner.
The Chilean's must be planning to control the pace and speed of Neymar who can cause the damage at any point of time. The midfeild of Chile will depend mainly on the counter attacks, and wait to utilize the opportunity.

The Chileans bassically play on quick and precise movement .Vargas, Sanchez and Diaz are quite effective in the middle third as Alexis Sanchez has proved himself to be effective in numerous occasions. Sanchez is the key man for Chile as David Luiz and Thiago Silva are likely to keep their wits about him in their pending encounter.

PREVIEW : ADHIRAJ DUTTA - After 48 group stage matches, we have finally made it to the knockout stage. We have witnessed some insane upsets and crazy group finishes, but this is where it matters. It’s all single elimination for the knockout stages as teams can’t rely on a draw to get them through to the next round. The action kicks off on Saturday as we have two high intense South American clashes, as host country Brazil, squares off against Chile in the first match.

STAT ------>>>> : Colombia and Uruguay met only 1 time in world Cup. In 1962 Chile World Cup 1st Round Group 1 match Uruguay beat Columbia 2-1.
STAT ----->>>>>: In 1986 Mexico world Cup Uruguay played Round of 16 match and lost to Argentina 0-1 and in 1990 Italy World Cup they lost to Italy 0-2 in Round of 16 match.

Then the second match will feature Colombia up against Uruguay in a high-profile match. Colombia has been the talk of the World Cup as they have impressed viewers with their fast paced attacking, and their exuberant dancing after most goals. In 3 games, Colombia scored 9 goals as they played united as a team and all areas of the pitch played well. Colombia is right behind Holland for most goals scored as the dutch have scored 10.

STAT ------>>>> : Colombia reached Round of 16 in 1990 Italy World Cup. Cameroon beat Colombia 2-1.

Goalkeeper David Ospina, played phenomenally as he only conceded 2 goals in 3 games. He saved 9 shots in those games, including 5 saves against Japan. The defense also put in a stellar performance as Juan Zuniga, Cristian Zapata, Mario Yepes and Pablo Armero were rock solid in the back line as all four of them rarely made mistakes. Pablo Armero and Juan Zuniga also helped out offensively as their dangerous runs from the other end, helped out an already high-powered offense. Also a special mention should go out to defensive midfielders. Abel Aguilar and Carlos Sanchez as they were a key reason why Colombia won the first two games by playing superbly in the midfield.

This World Cup has seen the rise of two Colombians who have dominated this tournament. Juan Cuadrado and James Rodriguez have been the attacking force that could very well see Colombia make a long run into this tournament. Their performances have been off the charts and both players can very well be in the All Star Team when the tournament is said and done. These two players make watching Colombia enjoyable, as you never know what they will do next.

When Juan Cuadrado gets the ball, he is so quick and so skillful that if you blink you could miss his next move. Cuadrado is also a precision passer, and can hit a pass from any angle of the pitch and exploit any defense. His pass variety keeps him unpredictable as he can easily expose a defense by hitting a long ball to a fellow striker. He is also one of the fastest players at the World Cup, so his speed his a nightmare for defenders.

Looking at their stats we can see why these two have been one of the dominant duos of the 2014 World Cup. The two have accounted for just under half of the goals Colombia scored this World Cup (44.44%). They also assisted more than half of Colombia’s goals (55.55) this campaign as their passing ability is what they thrive off of.

On the other side of the pitch is Uruguay. The once South American powerhouse should be counting their blessings that they are even in this round. Their World Cup got off to a horrendous start as they lost to Costa Rica 3-1. Cavani started the scoring after converting a penalty as Uruguay took a 1-0 lead in the first half. Costa Rica then scored 3 goals in the second half as they left Uruguay, favorites to possibly win the group, shocked.

They thought resting Luis Suarez would be a smart move as he was recovering from injury so they could have him for the games against tougher teams like, England and Italy. If we could take away one thing from that game against Costa Rica is that Uruguay is totally dysfunctional without Suarez. Bad news for Uruguay as Luis Suarez just bit his third player in his illustrious career.

Giorgio Chiellini has joined an exclusive VIP club that only consists of Otman Bakkal and Branislav Ivanovic, who were the previous victims of Count Suarez. Now while Suarez has his own problems on who his next victim will be, Uruguay will be without their all time leading goal scorer who has bagged 2 of Uruguay’s 3 goals this World Cup. Suarez is set to miss nine international matches and is banned from four months of all football. It was Suarez’s brace against England which gave any sort of hope of qualification.

It will interesting to see how coach Oscar Tabarez will respond- whether he will field the inexperienced Christian Stuani or the veteran Diego Forlan who single handedly took the La Celeste to the semi finals in the 2010 World Cup. Another major worry will be the fitness of captain Diego Lugano who is a doubtful starter due to a knee injury.

Most people expect Colombia to win this match given their form but tradition and history is with the two-time champions Uruguay and in football, anything can happen in 90 minutes when the players take on to the pitch.
