PFC: Arata 24', Moga 90'+2'
USFC: Anas(og) 63'

USFC :Yoon, Abhishek, Jhingan, Anwar, Munmun, Safar, Michael(Sahenshah 81'), Nima(Budhiram 76'), Salau, Linekar, Nadong
PFC : Abhra, Srikanth, Anas, Chika, Gurjinder, Karma, Mumtaz, Arata, Douhou, Subash(Jeje 57'(Paite 63'), Moga 90+2'

PFC RELEASE : Pune FC finished their north-east mission in the I-League this season with back-to-back victories. As a result, Pune FC moved further up in the league standings. A last gasp injury time goal by James Moga enabled Pune FC complete a 2-1 win over United Sikkim FC in Round 14 at the Paljor Stadium, Gangtok on Saturday.

Medio Arata Izumi (23rd minute) gave Pune FC the lead, before a melee inside the penalty-box led to USFC profit from an own-goal in the 63rd minute. The victory took Pune FC to the top of the league table level on points with Churchill Brothers with a tally of 28 each. However, on head-to-head, Pune FC occupies 2nd position.

Pune FC thus avenged the 2-2 draw played in the first-leg home game in Pune. The win stretched Pune FC's unbeaten run to eight, while the win was sixth in away games and 9th in the league. Coach Derrick Pereira made two changes to the starting lineup. Subash Singh and Srikanth Ramu replaced Jeje Lalpekhlua and Othallo Tabia in the starting XI.

The hosts began on a dominant note keeping Pune FC 'keeper Abhra Mondal alert which including an early inroad by Nadong Bhutia who ran to in to a through ball. Pune FC took away the pressure when Arata pulled his shot just wide of the goal from the left. Later a well-knit move had skipper Douhou Pierre set up Karma Tsewang on the flank. Karma's first touch let him down as it took the ball just too far.

Minutes later, Pune FC earned back-to-back corners. Subash Singh's header off the first was cleared and from the resulting corner, Karma blasted his attempt over. Both sides had a fair bit of exchanges with the host's ending up shot to long balls played, unlike Pune FC who ventured deep. Pune FC, however had the upper hand and had two good opportunities. Defender Chika Wali's header off a corner went over followed by a clearance of another header by USFC defense.

Midway through the first half, medio Arata put Pune FC into the lead with brilliant anticipation and an equally good finish. With Karma pushing the ball to Douhou on the right, the skipper did well to release the ball just when Arata made a run behind the defender. Once in the clear, Arata met the ball well to slot past USFC 'keeper Yoon Tae.

At the other end, Nima Tamang beat Chika to send in a cross for Nirudeen Salau. The striker's tame shot was saved with ease by Abhra. Minutes later, Abhra flapped a delivery into the box. The ball remained stray as USFC's attacker went for a shot from range only to be denied by Srikanth Ramu's timely block.

The hosts had begun to dominate possession as they worked hard for the equaliser. Around the half-hour mark, Salau shot wide from a narrow angle on a counter. Four minutes later, Srikanth cleared USFC skipper Anwar Ali's header. Both teams thereafter engaged in a midfield battle with the hosts having Nadong to blame for sliding his attempt over, while Pune FC had Chika get booked for his challenge.

The second half began as the first ended with tackles flying around. Three minutes from the restart, defender Anas Edathodika went down after an aerial duel. However the referee waived play on; only for Pune FC to eventually clear out the ensuing corner kick. Three minutes later, Subash got himself in a great position with a turn. His shot from top of the box ended getting blocked.

Around the hour mark, Coach Derrick Pereira brought in striker Jeje Lalpekhlua to replace Subash upfront. At the other end, USFC probed with long balls into the Pune FC box.

Luck provided the hosts with the equaliser three minutes after the hour-mark. Losing the ball in the midfield, Nima Tamang was the recipient on right. Outpacing Pune FC's wing back Gurjinder Kumar, Tamang sent in a stiff cross a yard ahead off the touchline. The retrieving Anas in his bid to clear, found the ball rebound off Abhra and onto Gurjinder and past the goalline.

Pune FC then brought in Khanthang Paite just before resumption to replace Jeje. In the next five minutes, striker Moga, playing the lone man upfront, created a couple of close chances. First, his bicycle kick was saved by USFC 'keeper Yoon Tae which was followed by another long-range effort to be blocked by the 'keeper. Substitute Paite too got into the act and had a shot from the top of the box saved by the 'keeper.

At the other end, USFC dangerously moved up the right after breaking down Pune FC's possession. Abhra and the backline were alert to clear the danger. Into the final ten minutes, the search for the winner intensified. After some half chances, Pune FC finally scored the match-winner deep into added time.

Medio Arata, on the left won a freekick, three minutes into added time. Off the free-kick, skipper Douhou sent a brilliant low delivery aimed at the first post that swung. Moga attacked the delivery and did well to flick into the far corner to seal the game for Pune FC.

05.01.2013: ONGC FC   3-0   PAILAN ARROWS (DELHI - FT)
ONGC: Pritam Kotal(og) 6', Eric 30', Lalmuanpuia Fanai 67'
ONGC: Rehnesh, Odeola, Waheed, Yusa, Sandip, Sachin, Jatin, Joel, Fanai, Eric, Kunal(David 65')
PA: Sayan, Souvik, Pritam, Rajinder(Tirthankar 60'), Vishal, Milan, Prabir(Shyju 46'), Dhanpal, Narayan, Holicharan, Alwyn.

ONGC's winning streak at the Ambedkar stadium

continues. They avenged their 1-4 defeat against Pailan Arrows over a month ago at Kolkata with a convincing 3-0 win against the same opponents. Coach Santosh Kashyap has transformed ONGC and made them a compact in defence and quick in the counter attack. It is his third match as ONGC coach and they have secured seven points from these three matches. ONGC is now on 13 points from 13 matches.

Pailan Arrows suffered their fourth successive defeat and remain stuck on 14 points. Their coach Arthur Papas said his defence should have been more alert against set-pieces and that the hard playing surface prevented his side from playing their quick passing, possession football.

He also felt that a key player like Allwyn George should learn how to find space as otherwise he gets closely marked for most of the match. George showed his class in the 35th minute, trapping a long clearance on his instep and pivoting and giving a defence splitting through pass but striker Holicharan Nazary angled wide.

ONGC made a whirlwind start and forged ahead in the 6th minute. They got three successive corner kicks. Yusa Katsumi's curling corner kick created confusion amongst the Pailan Arrows defenders and trickled in off right back Pritam Kotal's foot. Piling on the pressure ONGC went further ahead at the half hour mark. Overlapping right back and Man of the match Sachin Gawas sent a measured cross which striker Eric Brown headed in forcefully.

In the 66th minute ONGC went further ahead. Left Joel Sequeira's perfect cross was trapped by Brown who flicked to unmarked striker F. Lalmuanpuia who shot goalwards. his first shot was blocked. Lalmuanpuia capitalised on the rebound and scored with a crisp shot.

Brown got the red card two minutes later for retaliation after he was fouled by Pailan Arrows right back Kotal. Coach Kashyap accepted that it was a silly foul and that he was trying to make his players avoid rash tackles. Eric Brown will now miss the crucial tie against east Bengal on Tuesday January 8.

ONGC's manager Bibek Bhowmick deserves credit for trying to revamp the team. Bringing in coach Santosh Kashyap has made the team more compact. Since Kashyap took over ONGC has won two and drawn one match. Newly recruited stopper back S. Wahid from Kerala also impressed in his first outing for ONGC keeping Arrows's lethal striker Nazary in check.

Churchill Brothers produced a scintillating display of football to drub injury-hit Shillong Lajong FC, 6-0 at the Duler Football Stadium Mapusa, Goa on Friday.

In the first half it was the home side who dominated the proceedings and took the lead with two quickfire goals from Steven Dias and H.Antchouet in the 40th and 42nd minute respectively.

Both the sides made changes with Churchill Brothers bringing in Bineesh Balan for striker Ajay Singh, who picked up a hamstring, in the 18th minute, while Lajong brought in Jacob for Nigerian striker Friday in the 30th minute, who also picked up a knock, to add to the ever-growing injury list of the Reds.

After the lemon break the home side tightened the screws on the visitors, pumping in as many as four goals to complete the rout. It would seem that the Shillong side sorely missed the presence of the injured players, as the Goan side took advantage of the opportunities.

Ajay Singh, who had previously missed a few sitters in front of goal, finally converted when he latched on to a Beto pass to drill the ball past a hapless Basant Singh. Akram Moghrabi then came on as a substitute for the home team in the 63rd minute and immediately made his presence felt when he scored off a header within three minutes of play(66th).

The talismanic Lebanese, who scored the only goal in Shillong against the Reds in round 7 of the League, then added another in quick succession to double his tally in the 73rd minute of the game. Roberto Da Silva, who had a good outing, then rounded off the formalities by notching up his well-deserved goal in injury time, to hand the North-Easterners with a 6-0 defeat.

ONGC continues to be a jinx team for East Bengal. Two years they halted the Kolkata giants winning spree at Kolhapur. Today at the Ambedkar stadium, ONGC defended in depth and scored off a rare counter attack to win 1-0. In the 86th minute. ONGC's Japanese recruit Yusa Katsumi surged down the left and dribbled past Arnab Mondal and scored with a low angular right footer. Yusa was justifiably chosen a sman of the match.

With this upset win ONGC has moved to 16 points from 14 matches. East Bengal's title aspiration have been jolted as they remain stuck on 27 points from 14 matches. East Bengal's coach Trevor Morgan admitted later that the team has to win eight of their remaining ten matches to win the title.

Morgan rightly remarked after the match that his team paid a heavy price for missed chances. The English coach admitted that it was a case of bad finishing and the team should have been three goals ahead at the end of the first half. He is worried about inconsistency in performance of his players.

A jubilant ONGC coach Santosh Kashyap claimed it as a tactical victory. "We did not allow East bengal space in our half and use dpressing tactics which were successful."

East Bengal dominated the first half and should have scored on three occasions. Early in the match Penn Orji entered the box, stumbled and was dispossessed. In the 38th minute. Striker Chidi Edeh evaded the goalkeeper, following a long clearance but delayed and was hustled out. In the 43rd minute, Naoba Singh crossed from the right and an unmarked Robin headed tamely to the goalkeeper T. Rehenesh from six yards out.

The tale of missed chances continued in the second half. Ishfaq Ahmed's accurate corss was headed narrowly wide by Robin with goalkeeper Rehnesh out of position. Uga Okpara headed wide a deep corner kick by mehtab Hossein.

ONGC was well organised in the second half and prevented east Bengal from creating many chances. In the 81st minute coach Morgan introduced both Manandeep Singh and Raju gaikwad. he went for three strikers and four in midfield. The ploy misfired and ONGC scored the match winner in the counter attack and defended their lead.

For ONGC defenders Hassan Mohd Adeola, Robin gurung and Sandeep sangha combined well and as Santosh said the whole team played with great spirit. Earlier, chairman South Delhi Municipal Corporation, Central Zone Virender Kasana was introduced to the players.

Match Report
Shillong Lajong FC held defending champions Dempo SC in the 16th round of the I-League at the JN Stadium Shillong to a goalless yet action packed draw.
The Reds started the first half brightly with more ball possession compared to the Goans and created many scoring chances for the home team but were really unlucky to miss out on taking the well deserved lead.
In the 25th minute it was Lajong once again who could have taken the lead when Lalchuanmawia's cross found Friday but the former Mumbai FC striker failed to convert the half chance.
The visitors then had their own chance to break the hearts of the Lajong's Faithfuls in the 15th minute but Samir Naik put the ball wide of the goal. The first half ended goalless, with the second half tantalising poised for a climax-like finishing to the game. The game was made even livelier with an electrifying half-time performance by the Voice of Lajong winners, Kyrshan Suphai and Ribhakupar Shadap, who were accompanied by a group of chidren between ages 8-10.
In the second half Lajong Coach, Desmond Bulpin made three significant changes in the match, bringing in Jacob for Lalramluaha in the 46th minute, Renedy Singh for Ebi Sukore in the 61st while Boithang replaced Jibon Singh in the 79th minute.
The entry of Renedy and Jacob saw the Reds digging in further into the Dempo defence, and Renedy almost made an immediate impact, when he came quite close in the 62nd minute. Lajong's game picked up a notch as they went all out for the lead, but the reigning Champions countered in almost equal fashion but were kept out by some superb defending by the Lajong backline.
Dempo SC also used all of their substitutions, bringing in Selwyn Fernandes for Mahesh Gawli in the 46th minute, Joy Ferrao for Anthony Periera and Nicolav Borges for Indian international Clifford Miranda in the 87th minute.
The visiting side looked threatening on a few occasions in the closing stages of the match, but never really looked like converting the chances, as the match eventually fizzled out to a goalless draw, which once again, betrayed the real character of the match.
Lalchhuanmawia was awarded the Man of the Match for his stellar display on the field.

AIFF RELEASE : Prayag United Sports Club completed a hat-trick of wins when they came from behind to defeat Sporting Clube de Goa 2-1 at the Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Saturday (Jaunary 12).

After two good wins over Dempo Sports Club and Pune FC, Prayag United had started favourites against Sporting Clube. But Ogba Kalu's goal in the 24th minute seemed to upset calculations. Prayag, however, turned the match around in the second half when Ranti Martins equalized in the 48th minute and Bello Rasaq scored the winner with a majestic free-kick in the 77th minute.

Both teams started cautiously and it was not until the 20th minute when one got to see goal-mouth action as Ranti tested the rival goalkeeper with a couple of long rangers.

Sporting surged ahead much against the run of play in the 24th minute when a smart free-kick from Pratesh Shirodkar saw Kalu receive the ball just outside the box and then unleash a fierce drive that deflected of a defender and sailed into the goal.

The goal stunned Prayag United, and although they were in control, there were not much openings. The only chance of the first half was when Carlos Hernandez's powerful long ranger was tipped over the post by Sporting goalkeeper Ashok Singh.

Sporting Clube got the equalizer immediately after resumption of play in the second session as Ranty capitalized on a defensive lapse. A long ball from Prayag's half was hesitantly covered by the Sporting defenders allowing Ranty the space to toe the ball home.

Prayag United secured full points in the 77th minute when Sporting conceded a freekick just outside the box. Bello stepped up and curled the ball into the goal to give the visitors deserving full points.

12.01.2013: ONGC FC   1-0   SALGAOCAR SC (DELHI - FT..)
ONGC: Lalmuanpuia 46'
ONGC: Rehnesh, Adeola, Bimal, Waheed, Yusa, Kailash, Sandeep, Sachin, Jatin, Fanai, Joel.
SAL: Karanjit, Nicolou, Anthonio, Augustin, Quinton, Ravi, Randeep, Fulganco, Rocus, Francis, Marcus.

ONGC's winning streak at the Ambedkar stadium, continues unabated. In their 15th round match today, they ousted former champions Salgaocar 1-0. Striker Fanai Lalmuanpuia scored the match winner, flicking in an accurate free kick by Man of the Match Yusa Katsumi from the left. Salgaocar's international custodian Karanjit singh was to blame for this goal as he did not advance and fist the ball, allowing Lalmuanpia time and space to head in.

Yusa won his second successive man of the match award but the real heroes for ONGC is their well organised defence. They have now not conceded a goal for 340 minutes. Coach Santosh Kashyap expressed happiness that his defence was now compact and is not making unforced errors. The stalwarts in defence Hassan Mohammed Adeola, skipper Sandeep sangha and Waheed Mohammed Sali. Since taking over about a month ago, Kashyap has transformed ONGC. In five matches in Delhi, they have won four and lost one match, scoring nine goals and conceding just once.

Salgaocar missed their Brazilian defender Luciano Sabrosa due to a hamstring injury. Their foreign coach David Booth felt that his team dominated possession but lacked a striker. He hopes fortunes will change once they recruit Josimar and John Hankisnon as their foreign strikers from middle of this month.

Both Booth and Kashyap felt the ground was hard and difficult to control the ball. Kashyap felt that his team did not playing with the same confidence as in their heroic win against East Bengal and relaxed a little today. After their long stint in ddlhi, ONGC now leaves for Mumbai and will play their game against Dempo, Goa on January 27.

Booth lamented that referee Vishnu Chauhan did not award his team a penalty kick in the 88th minute when ONGC's stopper Waheed handled the ball whilst trying to head it away. Referee Chauhan felt it was an unintentional hand ball. But Salgaocar which dominated in the 2nd half, missed a complete sitter in the 71st minute. Striker Marcus Mascarenhas flicked wide from the edge of the six yard box, with an open goal in front of him, following substitute Royston D'Souza's cross.

Overall it was a battle of attrition in midfield with few scoring chances.ONGC relied on Yusa's speed and thrust to attack. Salgaocar played cohesive football and used the flanks and created some openings but ONGC's goalkeeper T.P. Rehnesh mad some daring saves.

ONGC has now reached 19 points from 15 matches and is in 7th position. Salgaocar remain stuck on 11 points from 14 matches and is in the relegation zone.

India's assistant coach savio Madeira and Delhi Soccer association vice-president O.P. Malhotra gave the man of the award and winning cheque of Rs. 35,000 to the winning team..

ONGC : K.Yusa (45+1'- pen), Muritala Ali 90+1'(Sub, Eric)
AIR : Henry 41'
MOM: Yusa (ONGC)

AIFF RELEASE : 03.03.2013 : ONGC FC's Japanese midfielder Katsumi Yusa was all over the pitch working his way through Air India defence, before the visitors scored 2-1 win in their Round 17 I-League Football Championship match here on Sunday.

Man-of-the-match Yusa scored an equalizer and set up several chances that went a begging before the combination of Kenistan C and Subair Muritala Ali found the winning goal for the ONGC FC. The win pushed them to No 6 on I-League table with 27 points, as they jumped over their fellow Mumbai team, Mumbai FC, which has 26 points from 19 matches. Nigerian striker Henry Ezeh had put host Air India ahead in the 41st minute heading in Elijah Junior's cross from the left wing, but they failed to sustain the momentum later on.

The loss meant that Air India will stay at No 12 position with 18 points from 18 matches. Air India do have two matches in hand. The first half was absolutely weary as both the teams took time to get into their grooves after a long break from competitive football.

Yusa was marked heavily from the start, but Air India captain Vijit Shetty paid price for pushing the Japanese down while he was on a clear run in the 19th minute. Taking advantage of the free-kick Eric Brown and Naresh Aula set up Yusa in the box, but his shot flew over the top in the 20th minute.

Four minutes later Parwinder Singh's screamer from about 30 yards threatened the Air India post, but goalkeeper Sukhwinder Sing dived perfectly to punch the ball out. The ONGC FC carried out relentless attacks while Air India managed to unsettle the visiting team?s defence only twice before the break.

But as the luck would have it, it was Elijah Junior's brilliant cross from left sideline found Henry Ezeh in the box and the Nigerian wasted no time in heading it over the flummoxed ONGC custodian Rehnesh TP. ONGC never lost faith in their ability even after they were down by a goal. Yusa raved up from the centre and earned a spot kick after he was brought down by Baldeep Singh and Vijith Shetty. He coolly converted the penalty pushing into the right corner.

Just when it seemed that the match would end in a draw, Santosh Kashyap coached ONGC broke the ice through Muritala Ali, who had played for erstwhile Mahindra United and then Chirag United before joining the ONGC.

20.01.2013: PUNE FC   0-0   SPORTING GOA (PUNE - FT...)
RED CARD : Rovan Pereira ( 45+1' -SCG)
PFC : Abhra, Tabia, Anas, Ralte, Gurjinder, Arata, Douhou, Karma T., Sukhwinder, Daisuke, Moga.
SCG : Bruno, Matthew, Adil, Keita, Seiya, Pratesh, Jovel, Kalu, Joseph, Rovan, Joyner.

Pune FC were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw by a 10-men Sporting Clube de Goa side in an I-League Round 17 encounter at the Shivchhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi in Pune on Sunday. The visitors were reduced to 10-men in first-half injury time after midfielder Rovan Pereira was sent off for a second bookable offense. Sporting played their heart out to salvage a point from the game.

With a point from the game, Pune FC stay fourth in the table with 30 points from 15 games while Sporting Goa stay 12th with 14 points. Bruno Colaco though, didn't have an auspicious beginning in goal, failing to read a routine long ball into his box, allowing James Moga to nip in. The South Sudanese striker too should have done better, but after rounding the keeper, he somehow missed an open goal.

Gurjinder Kumar then had the best opportunity of the half, but he failed to bundle the ball home, virtually from a yard out, after a Douhou Pierre's freekick fell kindly in his path. The half ended with Sporting reduced to ten men after Rovan brought down Karma Tsewang and was shown his second yellow.

Moga yet again failed to trouble the keeper, after he was found by yet another delightful cross by substitute Khangthang Paite, making it a hat-trick of heading opportunities spurned by the team in quick succession. The hosts then missed another chance to go ahead, but this time it was more down to a fantastic save from Bruno, who did brilliantly to deflect away an Arata strike, after the midfielder was set-up by Douhou, with a clever ball across the box.

Moga's torrid evening looked set to continue, when he failed to connect properly with a cross by Douhou, after a promising exchange between the midfielder and Subash Singh. The ball could have still gone over the line, as Bruno slipped at a vital moment. However thankfully for the custodian, Keita Boubacar was present on the line, to clear the danger.

In the dying moments of the game, Moga once again failed to finish after he was set up beautifully by Paite. The game remained goalless as the referee blew the final whistle.

Hopes of winning the I-league are almost over - James Morgan :: SEE BELOW THE MATCH LIVE COMMENTARY

19.01.2013: JAYDIP DASGUPTA : Three times winner and 5 times Runners up of NFL/I-LEAGUE Kolkata Giant, East Bengal fears that they are out of the I-league title as they lost to the most important match of the 2nd phase against Churchill Brothers today at the Yuba Bharati Kriangagan. East Bengal kept pressure and dominanted the match only for the 1st fifteen minutes, but the Goan side came back and out shoot their rivals by a clear margin of 3-0. This was the Churchill Coach Mariano Dias and TD Subhash Bhowmick's 9 match unbeaten run as they last lost to East Bengal in home in 6th Round.

The Churchill Brothers controlled the mid field headed by Brazilian Beto who scored 11 goals so far in the league along with the help of Stepen Dias who masterminded the brace of goals in the 1st half. In one occasion Dias shot was placed by Henry in the open net though it seems that Henry was in a off side position but Refere denied it.

In the second occasion a low center from the right by Dias was placed by Henry when the entire East Bengal deep defense had no answer to give. Robert and Arnab Mondol was not in the proper posion to advance anticipate the Dias's movement. The third goal came from a free kick of Lenny Rodriges when the Lebanese Striker Akram headed in and the entire deep defense was standing. Akram played only 11 minute and scored a goal and make his goal tally to 9 with a hattrick.

In the second half East Bengal created some pressure but they failed to create a positive change. In fact the two Churchill Stopper backs Bilal and Ravanan have showed an impressive performance in deep defense and as a result of which the Churchill goal keeper Sandip Nandy has had a very easy time under the bar. It's unclear that why East Bengal coach replaced exprienced Soumik Dey by Robert in first eleven from the starting of the match.

In the post match conference the dejected East Bengal coach Trevor James Morgan uttered that the hopes of winning the I league are almost over.

He added that his team has failed to perform in the time when it required most. In fact Morgan is totally dissatisfied with the team game and especially with the deep defenders who can be blamed for the goals that East Bengal had to conceded.

MATCH REPORT: PFC RELESE: Pune FC go down to East Bengal

Pune FC went down fighting 1-2 to East Bengal FC in an I-League Round 18 encounter at the Shivchhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi in Pune on Friday.Chidi Edeh gave the visitors the lead in the 6th minute before Arata Izumi equalized for Pune FC. A 75th minute penalty-kick conversion from Chidi gave East Bengal the win.

Pune FC stay 4th with 30 points from 16 games while East Bengal move up to 2nd place with 36 points from 18 games. Nigerian striker Chidi opened scoring in the six minutes into the game after he got the ball on the right and placed it past Pune FC 'keeper Abhra Mondal.

Five minutes later, the linesman on the near side somehow failed to notice a blatant handball from East Bengal's Raju Gaikwad. The defender controlled the ball with his hands after going down to the ground inside the box. Six minutes later, Arata equalised for the home side with a brilliant finish on the half-volley. Striker James Moga set up Arata with a header and the midfielder sent the ball past a helpless keeper Abhijit Mondal to send the crowd into a frenzy.

The rest of the half produced no close chances and both the teams went into the break tied at 1-1.

Eight minutes after the restart, Moga missed a close chance to put Pune FC in the lead. Arata sent Subash Singh on a run on the left and the striker slid the ball to Moga at the far post. However the South-Sudanese striker's attempt was blocked by the defense. Minutes later, Arata's shot from close range on Douhou Pierre's cross hit the side netting. Midway through the half, Moga's header came off the vertical after he did well to connect Othallo Tabia's cross in from the right.

At the other end, East Bengal were awarded a penalty after Subash brought down Chidi which was heavily protested by the home side who claimed that the rival striker went down cheaply. Chidi then stepped up and converted the spotkick to give East Bengal the lead. In the final moments of the game, the visitors robbed the excitement from the game as they employed various time-wasting tactics.

Pune FC tried hard for the equalizer; however more breaks for East Bengal players going down to no challenges consumed much of the time.

AIFF RELEASE: CK Vineeth pumped in three goals in the space of 11 minutes to complete a personal hattrick as Prayag United SC thrashed host Air India 4-1 in the Round 19 match of the I-League Football championship at the Balewadi Stadium here on Saturday.

Midfielder Vineeth played upfront for most part of the match and chanced on every ball sent to him to leave Air India defence in tatters on a balmy day when the home team missed one penalty through Elijah Junior before he scored a consolation goal, again through a spot kick. League top scorer Ranty Martins opened the scoring for Prayag United in the 30th minute before Vineet fired three in a quick succession in a show of total dominance on the turf where they had lost to Mumbai FC only a fortnight ago.

The win boosted Prayag United tally to 30 points from 19 matches, tied with Pune FC, are playing evening match against Salgaocar SC. The loss has put Air India on notice and they will stay at No 11 with 15 points from 16 matches.

After 30 minutes of testing each other, Prayag United took the initiative and went straight into the Air India forte. Dhanachandra Singh almost put Eelco Schattorie's side ahead, but his header hit the crosspiece and rebounded out.

It was Ranty who opened the scoring in the 30th minute when K Asif set up Vineeth, who in-turn guided the ball to Ranti, who made no mistakes in putting in from a close range. Prayag pushed ahead again in the 36th minute when Ranti and Malsawm T Syhlo combined well to cut through Air India defence. In the ensuing corner taken by Lalkamal Bhowmick, Prayag failed to get the opening, but then Vineeth happened in the very next minute.

That goal opened the floodgates and Air India defence started showing signs of fatigue. Again Asif found an unmarked Vineeth, who lobbed the ball over Air India keeper Jagroop Singh. Air India had hardly recovered from the blow when Bhowmick found Deepak Mondal on the right wing, and his long cross into the box was volleyed home powerfully by Vineeth, to make it 3-0 for Prayag.

Air India tried hard when Ong Lepcha sent a cross from right for Elijah Junior, whose deflection went off the side post. Barely two minutes had passed after the resumption and Vineeth completed his hat-trick on a cross from Rasaq Bello.

Air India had a few chances to salvage when Prayag's Anupam Sarkar handled the ball in the box. But the spot kick taken by Junior went in vain as his tame drive was easily pushed out by Sangram Mukherjee. Junior was though, given a second chance in the 72nd minute, when Rasaq apparently brought down Prakash Thorat and this time the Nigerian made no mistake and made it 4-1.

Ezeh Henry then had a good chance in the remaining minutes of the game, when he beat past Sangram but then casually rolled the ball towards an empty net. Onrushing Rasaq countered and cleared the ball. Prayag on the other side too had a flurry of chances, but Shankar Oraon, Lalmohan Hansdah and Ranti were wasted chances in front of the goal.

02.02.2013: DEMPO SC   2-2   MUMBAI FC (Duler - FT.)
DEM : Carvalho 86', Koko 89'.
MFC : (Evan 41', Opara 68')
Red Card ; James Singh (MFC-87'), Miranda (DEM-90')

DEM : Subhasish, Selwin, Antao, Rowilson, Rebello, Clifford, Godwin, Climax, Anthony, Abranches, Seuoka.

Super subs saved Dempo from defeat against Mumbai FC Super substitutes Peter Carvalho and Koko Sakibo scored late in the second half to help Dempo to hold Mumbai FC to a 2-2 draw in the 19th round of the of the I-League, played at Duler stadium, Mapusa, here today.

Mumbai FC who looked a better side of the two scored a goal in each half through Evans Quao(40th) and N D Opara(67th) and were set to win before two late goals from substitutes Peter Carvalho(83rd) and Koko Sakibo(89) helped Dempo save from the jaws of defeat.

With today's draw Dempo takes their points 35 from 18 matches, four points adrift from East Bengal who moved at the top of the table with 39 points displacing Churchill Brothers to second place. While Mumbai took their tally to 26 points from 18 matches.

Dempo who are dropped to third position, knows that they cannot afford drop points further in defense of their title started positively and even found the net early in the 9th minute through Joaquim Abranches header but was ruled off-side by the referee.

But the goan side committed lot of errors in the middle which allowed the visitors to take control in the midfield as the match wore on and they came close to score on few occasions but Opara twice and Gabriel shot wide off the target. However their persistant moves paid dividend as they took the lead in the 40th minute when Nichols Rodrigues free-kick from the right hit the bar and the ball fell on the path of Evans Quao who shot home to have Mumbai FC leading 1-0 at half time.

Dempo looked far from impressive in the second half also as their free flowing in the middle were missing which allowed the Mumbai side to dictate terms and Dempo keeper Chowdhury averted another danger when he blocked a fierce shot from Gabriel Fernandes but their citadel eventually fell in the 67th minute when N D Opara who was free on the left essayed a firm 35-yards shot that beat the keeper Chowdhury and found the far corner of the net.

Down by two goals, Dempo coach Armando made two changes bringing in Peter Carvalho and Koko Sakibo and the move paid off as Peter Carvalho reduced the margin in the 83rd minute when he found the net off a cross from Anthony Pereira. Three minute later Mumbai FC were reduced to ten men after James Singh received his second yellow card and Dempo took the advantage of the numerical figure and found the equalier through substiute Koko Sakibo who found the net off Clifford Miranda cross to save his team from defeat.

Pune FC went down 0-2 to Salgaocar FC in an I-League Round 19 encounter at the Shivchhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi in Pune on Saturday. A Francis Fernandes brace (2nd & 45th minute) in the first half settled the tie in the visitor's favour. With this loss Pune FC stay joint 4th with 30 points from 17 games while Salgaocar FC stay 11th with 17 points from 18 games.

The hosts were reduced to 10 men into the final moments of the game after defender Gurjinder Kumar received his marching orders. The visitors took the lead inside two minutes when Francis controlled Randeep Singh's cross into the before slotting past Pune FC custodian Abhra Mondal.

The hosts soaked pressure in the first ten minutes before coming out of the shell to create their moves. Karma Tsewang's cross in from the left was headed straight into the keeper by striker Jeje Lalpekhlua. Minutes later, Jeje's attempt was once again blocked by keeper Karanjit Singh after playmaker Douhou Pierre sent him through. The game turned more physical and Salgaocar's skipper Luciano Sobrosa was stretchered off to be replaced by Ojimi Obaiola.

Salgaocar doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time as Francis completed his brace. Ojimi's snapshot from the left was blocked by Abhra but the rebound fell for an onrushing Francis who scored. Pune FC started pushing ahead in search of a goal in the second half, however finishing in the final third let them down. Substitute James Moga's cross for Arata Izumi inside the box was just too high to connect.

Midway through the second half, Karma's long ball into the box was misjudged by Karanjit however the ball went wide at the far post. Five minutes later, midfielder Mumtaz Akhtar's shot was blocked by substitute keeper Vinay Singh ahead of Moga and Karma's rebound went just over. Pune FC had several chances in the closing moments of the game, but failed to convert and were left disappointed.

Match Report - SLFC RELEASE : Shillong Lajong Football Club got the better of United Sikkim FC with a 2-1 win in the second North East Derby, Round 19 of the I-League which was played at the JN Stadium Shillong on Saturday.

The Reds started brightly and enjoyed most of the early possession right from the word go and could have taken the lead in the very first minute but were unlucky when their first attempt on goal hit the bar. The host had plenty of chances coming their way but were unfortunate not to find the back of the net despite an array of quality football displayed.

As the game went on Nathan Hall's men started to enjoy most of the possession and found their feet but failed to create clear-cut chances. The Men in Blue could have taken the lead as they came close in several occasions but Lajong's wall did well to stop Sikkim's attempt including some brilliant keeping done by Lajong custodian Lalthuanmawia Ralte.

The first half was no doubt very competitive but both sides went into the break all square. After the lemon break both teams pushed to break the deadlock in an attempt to grab all three crucial points. Lajong made a couple of changes in the second half as Coach Thangboi Singto brought in P.C.Lalhlimthara for Jibon Singh in the 74th minute and Samson came in for Lalramluaha in the 80th minute.

While United Sikkim brought in Zenith for Thupden Bhutia in the 52 nd minute and Nadong came in for Linekar in the 89th minute. The visitors fashioned their best chance and surged ahead when Linekar Machado tapped in Ashish Chettri's cross in the 67th minute.

But "The never say die spirit" of the boys in "Red" was visible on the pitch as they started pressing hard to find the much needed equaliser. The hard work finally paid off when substitute P.C.Lalhlimthara found the back of the net which was assisted by Sho Kammimura and levelled the score in the 81 st minute.

Lajong's last win was against Pailan Arrows on November 28th last year at home and what looked like a draw as the match headed towards stoppage time, the home team surprised the 6000 odd crowd at the JN Stadium and this time it was Japanese striker Taisuke Matsugae who made no mistake to score the winning goal for Shillong Lajong FC in the 90+2 minute.

With this win Shillong Lajong FC is in the 10th position with 19 points while United Sikkim FC are in the 13th position with 12 points. Taisuke Matsugae was awarded the Man of the Match for his stunning performance today against United Sikkim FC.
