MATCH REPORT - JAYDIP DASGUPTA : The defending champions of I League Churchill Brothers registered the most important win when then stunned East Bengal at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium,Fatorda, Goa today.

Churchill, who were at the bottom of the I league table, on the danger zone of relegation overcome the Red and Gold by a solitary goal and climb to the twelve position through the chances of relegation are yet to be avoided. On the contrary East Bengal who were the contenders of winning the I league tittle are on the third position behind Bangaluru FC (41) and Salgaoc ar(38) with 37 points. It seems now that the dream of the Red and Gold of winning the title are over now.

Churchill Brothers scored the solitary goal in the 23rd minute of the match. A missed kick by Swaran Singh from top of the box found Raju totally unmarked inside the 18 yards who capitalized the opportunity and converted beating Abhra who had no answer to response. The I League are at the penultimate stage and there will be some tough competition between the teams who are ranked at the top as well as the lower order teams with a different objectives. The bottom line teams will be fighting for their existence and to save them from relegation.

N.B : Churchill vs East Bengal ---- This was the 6th Round Match (22.10.2013) which is schedule to play today (16.4.2014). Out of last 33 head to head between the two. only 1 time both teams met a 6th round Match in NFL/I-League.....When and what was the score then? YES. It was in 2012/13 where East Bengal won by the margin of 3-0.

The points are neck to neck between the teams who are ranked between 9th to 13th. A loss or draw will cause a serious concern for those teams who are at the relegation zone. Itís a tragic story in Indian Football that the defending champions of the I league and Federation Cup Churchill Brothers are at the bottom of the League table with 19 points .Even Churchill are participating in the AFC Cup.

This Goan team have to face some tough hurdles in the coming weeks with the contenders of the League East Bengal and Salgaocar who are desperate to climb up the ladders in order to occupy a place within the top three teams. But undoubtedly the match between Churchill and United Sports at Goa should play a decisive role as far as the relegation is concerned. Mohammedan Sporting who promoted in the 1st division of the League this year are at the danger zone. A win against Rangdazied on Sunday at Kolkata may feed them a lifeline but they have to continue their winning note in their last two match in order to save the relegation. An important match is coming up on the 21st between Rangdajied United FC and Shillong Lajong FC which will play an important role in the I League table.

Rangdajied United FC are currently placed at the 10th position with 24 points. A win against their arch rival Shillong Lajong FC will confirm their position in the I League table, but will make the task of the three Kolkata teams Mohun Bagan, Mohammedan Sporting and United Sports Club much harder.
