Rejuvenated United Sporting get better against Salgaocar as Purple boys ended in a goalless draw at the Tilak Maidan

The purple brigade did almost everything right throughout the 90 minutes; just the finishing touch was missing. Right from the beginning they passed the ball, acquired ideal positions as well. The gloves man of the home side, Karanjit Singh was the pick of the match undoubtedly as he stood tall between the visiting team and a monumental away win.

On the 8th minute, Biswajit placed the ball right into the top corner, subsequently cut out by Karanjit for a corner. After 5 minutes, another United attack was blocked by the Salgaocar defence while Biswajit’s attempt was blocked by a sliding tackle from Foschini.

Next minute, Salgaocar gunned a counter attack, in form Darryl Duffy was denied by United SC goalkeeper Abhijit Das who came off his line to deflect the Scot's shot wide. A few minutes later, Karanjit defied Eric Brown, who hustled a cross from Biswajit.

The attacking force of United Sporting Club combined beautifully to keep the Salgaocar defence on their toes throughout the first half, but failed in the last line. Incidentally, the home side was so busy protecting their home, they could hardly afford any further attack.

On the 57th minute, Derrick Perriara brought in Rosario Mendes in place of young prodigy Bikash Jairu to instil more vigour in the attacking third. On 68th Minute he used his 2nd substitution of the match as well to plunder a home win from the Bengal side. But they were of no use ultimately. Deepak Mondal, Bello Razaaq, Dhanchandra Singh and Sukhen dey didn’t give up against Salgaocar attacking force at all.

Sukhen Dey was named in the starting 11 by Subrata Bhattacharya in place of injured Anupam Sarkar. Subrata Bhattacharya used two of his substitutions on 87th and 90th minutes while he employed Asif Kottayil & Bivas Sarkar in place of Mohammed Rafique and Biswajit Biswas respectively. But the fresh legs could not produce any result either. Deepak Mondal got injured by a smacking shot from Freiman on 80th minute, but a little medication aided him and he continued till the whistle.

With this goalless draw, United Sports Club will have 21 points from 20 matches alongside Rangdajied United and Mohun Bagan while Salgaocar will remain second with 34 points from 20 matches. United SC will be placed in the 10th spot on account of goal difference as three teams will be tied on 21 points and hence the goal difference will come into play as compared to head-to-head
