Salgaocar FC did everything right but find the back of the net and eventually found themselves at the wrong end of a 1-0 result in a Round 2 clash against newly promoted Royal Wahingdoh FC played earlier today. The Greens could not have been any more dominant but paid for their profligacy in front of goal.

Despite being without several key players including striker Darryl Duffy and medio Saran Singh, the Greens started confidently and dictated the tempo in the early exchanges. Much against the run of play though, a long ball from captain Denzil Theobald led to a miscommunication between defender Augustin Fernandes and goal keeper Subrata Paul allowing the dangerous Jackichand Singh in on goal. His low effort to the left of Subrata saw the last named dive low and get a hand to the ball, but eventually unable to prevent the ball from rolling in.

Salgaocar, clearly rattled by the goal, re-grouped well and took complete charge of proceedings as the half wore on. A delightful interchange of passes between Rocus and Douhou, saw the latter slide the ball through for Jairu who shot wide with his weaker right foot with only the goalkeeper at his mercy. Chances came aplenty for the Greens with Clifton, Gurjinder and Gilbert all shooting wide after some patient build-up play. The Shillong based team were happy to defend the one goal advantage and relied on the long balls, but rarely troubled the Salgaocar defence through the rest of the half.

Douhou, who despite being on the losing side, won the Man of the Match for his performance, kept the Wahingdoh defence on their toes, with delightful through balls to find his team mates with consummate ease. The second half began in much the same fashion with Salgaocar doing all the attacking. At the hour mark, Bikash Jairu should have levelled the scores when keeper Nikhil miskicked to the former who was lurking at the edge of the box. With an open goal to shoot into, Jairu bizarrely chose to square the ball to Douhou and with not much weight on the pass, the ball was easily intercepted by Loveday who was backtracking.

Minutes later and a firm free-kick by Douhou Pierre saw Nikhil parry the ball away. However, Salgaocar's defender Francis Kasonde who got to the ball first centred the ball to Augustin Fernandes who sot wide from hand shaking distance. Douhou's curler from inside the box after being set up by Gilbert crashed against the cross-bar and Jairu's glancing header missed the far-post by a whisker, but in the end Wahingdoh held on for a famous win, their second in as many matches.

"We stuck to the basics and did everything right except score. It was just one of those days when the ball simply refuses to go in", remarked a visibly disappointed coach Derrick Pereira. R-2: 23.01.2014: SALGAOCAR SC ---- 0-1 --- ROYAL WAHINDOH - ( FT..) ROL : Jackiechand Singh 6'
