....The riveting I League campaign saw Dempo once again enjoy a befitting climax to their season by lifting the crown with one match left. The glorious achievement added another feather to the cap of the Goan domination with Dempo winning the crown for a record 5th time.

Since the inception of the national league concept back in the 2004-05 campaign, Dempo have been the undisputed champions of the concept winning it 5 times including lifting the I League 3 times out of its 5 seasons back from 2007-08 season.

The main architect behind the crowning glory of Dempo have been surely the man in their dugout Mr.Armando Colaco. Colaco was a former Dempo player who have been behind all the success Dempo have achieved in the National League till date. After Dempo conquered the current I League, our correspondent from www.Kolkatafootball.com took an exclusive interview of Mr. Armando Colaco via phone.


Q1. What is the key of Dempo's success?

Armando Colaco : Dempo is a team, who is maintaining the same team for years. This has been the main story of success. We have given the footballers a good and cordial atmosphere to play football. There is a good co-ordination between the team which made us this success. One thing I must add - we did not gave any unnecessary pressures to any of our footballers, what I did, I just guide them in a proper way, which had gave them the success. But I should mention the contributions of Clifford Miranda, Ranti Martins, Mahesh Gawli, Subhasish Roychowdhury who were well suppotrted by the rest of the team members.

Q2. What has been your role behind guiding the team?

Armando Colaco : It is the team effort only, Dempo is like a family and the team is playing a real team game. Once again I must say that all the credit should go to the footballerS. It is the footballers, who had made this dream came true for Dempo. Their effort must be recognized.

Q3. What is your impression about the referees?

Armando Colaco : Yes, almost all the teams have suffered due to some controversial decisions of the referees throughout the season, after all they are the human being, and almost all over the world this situation has to be faced by the football teams.

Q4. What Dempo is doing for the future footballers?

Armando Colaco : Dempo has got different age group teams. We are going to promote players from those age group to the senior teams. This year also we are singing Michy Vaz, Mandar Rao Desai, Jeovito Fernandes and Romeo Fernandes in our senior team. Our U-20 team is playing in the U-20 I league, and we are developing these age group teams for our future.

Q5. What Dempo is thinking about next year's team?

Armando Colaco : We have agreement with almost all of our players. So except a few no one will leave Dempo, and we will be maintaining almost the same team in the year along with Ranty Martins. RANTY WILL NEVER LEAVE DEMPO . Here financial factors is not the main reason. Yes, Ranty Martins will play for Dempo in the next year.

Last Year's runners-up Air Force School (TAFS), Subroto Park rallied to beat St. Joseph, Greater Noida 5-1. St. Joseph took 1-0 lead through Deepak in the 7th mintue. Air Force's Vikram Rana equalised score 1-1 in 10th mintue. Medio Tilak Subha made it 2-1 in 12th mintue.

On changing ends, inside left Richard Lepcha increased score to 3-1 in 40th mintue. Vikram scored 4-1 in 45th mintue while Richard Lepcha completed tally to 5-1 in 53rd mintue and was later on declared Man of the match.

In another match, APJ, Noida defeated Govt.Boys Senior Secondary School No,1, Moti Bagh by a solitary goal. Chandan clinched the match winning goal in 30th mintue. Chandan was adjudged Man of the match.

The state of Punjab have always been loyal in upholding the beauty of football with clubs such as BSF Jallandhar, Punjab Police and mainly JCT FC gracing the football turf of the country.

Last year after the completion of a tumultuous and riveting I League campaign, a certain news shellshocked the football fans across India. The club winning the maiden I League in 1996-97 then known as the National Football League (NFL), JCT FC disbanded their team much to the disgust of the football die hards.

The club withdrew their shining legacy of football after falling prey to the modern day commercialisation. From then onwards the club decided to transform into an academy to promote the grassroot level in presenting some footballing adroit to the sport. Since the departure of JCT from the footballing map of India, the blend of Punjab football also vanished from the Indian shores.

But the football hunger within the state looks to receive a reinvention with the formation of a new club known as Mahilpur United Football Club. The club is situated in the city of Mahilpur which is located in the District of Hosiarpor, Punjab. A former stellar name of Indian football Mr.Kuldeep Singh, who was the captain of JCT from 1996 to 1998, informed us exclusively that the club was formed on 31st March, 2012 with the help of the former players who are now plying trade Internationally.

The village Mahilpur in Hoshiarpur districts is known for its long association with the football. There is a culture of football in this area. Every village has its own football ground, no other sport is given much priority as Only football is given importance here. The village holds a number of annual tournaments and provides the players with an opportunity to showcase and show their football skills.

Some former players have united with the basic purpose of reflecting their allegiance to the sport of football providing the financial backing needed to form and run the club. Mr.Kuldeep Singh have also informed us that the trial of the talents for newly formed Mahilpur United FC will take place between 1st to 7th May at Govt. Sen. Sec. School's ground, Timing - 5:00pm.

With such a noble initiative being undertaken, it is necessary to portray the footballing background of the Mahilpur city. The city gave birth to some legendary talents with the greatest among them being Journal Singh.

Although Ex India Captain (1965-67), Mohun Bagan star and Arjuna Awardee late Journal Singh was born in Panama Village but he received his footballing education from the city of Mahilpur (He was the winning scorer of 1962 Asian Games Football final) And so did Arjuna awardee Gurdev Singh, former internationals GS Parmar and Manjit Singh.

The current lot includes, Hardip Sangha, Hardip Gill, Parveen Kumar, Sher Singh (Punjab Police), and JCT youth team's former coach and former midfielder Tejinder Kumar perfected their able knowledge of the game plying their trade on the famous Sri Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College Ground of Mahilpur. Mention may be made of Ali Hassan, the nursery coach who was responsible to be the catalyst of the state into the International Stage.

The boys of Mahilpur United FC now getting football training under coach former JCT player Manjinder singh.
